The Best Attributes for Strikers in FM

  • The greatest question in Football Manager: why are my strikers not scoring? Well, I suppose this doesn’t answer that question exactly, but its another piece of the FM puzzle! I am enjoying diving into data like this to help figure out which attributes to fixate on. Or, at least what to recommend when I’m answering the questions in my DMs. A balanced test to figure out which attributes can make strikers and forwards more effective. My how much we’ve progressed in our analysis.
    If you have any other ideas for videos like this let me know, I have the files to do this kind of test at every position, there are a lot of potential things we could do when it comes to excel sheets and tests. Chat had to edify me on how to work these things in Football Manager, but I can now put these videos together fairly quickly. Still slow, but faster than my previous FM data mining moves. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

    I think in the future instead of having all the other attributes at 10 you should make them 15, just so it’s not such a stark difference in quality. For example I think strength would be a lot less important if it was a more realistic advantage, rather than literally double everyone else on the pitch. Same with all the physicals tbh

      @thetrickster42 Před 3 lety +2

      You can have Harry Kane-like finishing strikers in FM without great strength or pace, but you need other shooting attributes too. Good technique, balance and first touch along with finishing makes a great striker.
      But yeah, playing in the low leagues recently it’s taken me far too long to realise if your striker is only good at one stat, it should be physical.

    Would be interesting to see how the list would be if you set the attribute you are checking to 15 instead. I think the spread would look a bit different. I suspect some attributes, like dribbling, scale better than others. I also suspect the reason for Strength being so good is that it's usually the only attribute a defender has that is better than the opposing striker. So they made it matter a lot in the box to give defenders a chance.
    Edit: Oh, and great videos btw. Keep em coming!

    Rather than giving everyone the same attribute score all around, do you think I'd be better to do it based on position? For example give defenders all the same attribute as eachother, but make it realistic for a defender. A key issue with strength being the top of the table is that the defender all had 10 strength which is extremely unrealistic as average strength for defenders is probably closer to 15

  • @BiggDanKillen

    I actually expected composure to be much higher. Being cold blooded seems like a must-have for a striker to me. What I really take from this, it's the advantage of work-rate over determination. I know it's really difficult to measure, but it would be cool to see if players with high determination actually have a higher chance of make comebacks in a match or not. Because if not, and your club strategy doesn't involve developing players, it would be something less to look for when scouting and signing players.

    I've always chosen strikers with high "off the ball" and "composure". I noticed the most prolific strikers for me have had high attributes there. I'm surprised pace was so low though - I have also had fast strikers or midfielders with less than 10 finishing that have been very prolific. If I have 2 up front, I quite like the classic one fast (16+) and one slow striker (~11).

The one thing i found interesting was the lower down the leagues you go, physicals became even more important, which makes sense when you think about it. Nice video and i believe more accurate than the first one. I would suggest the next attribute testing if it happens to be a bit different . I will say it in terms of this one and u can modify it it accordingly. You make every player with 15 attributes or 20 in everything except the attribute u want to test which will be 10 . I believe that 15 the max and 10 the least is better in general because someone with 20 strength will hammer someone with only 10 . Also i would check not only the points in the league but key things in the position i want to check . For instance avg rating of the strikers in each team , because they are strikes goals and maybe assists. i guess it gets to technical so only season avg rating will do . The thing i believe its important is to make the testing attribute for a position the worst and see how the lack of it determines the avg rating of the position i dont know for sure but i believe it's more accurate.

      Sometimes I think it's a shame that his subject doesn't have a wider market, but then I remember that means we get to keep him all to ourselves.

    Sergio Ramos is a good example of a player with high Strentgh and Heading who does pretty well on the attacking front without being an attacker. Those two attributes are pretty important in real life too. :)

  • @BearWinnie
    @BearWinnie Před 3 lety

    That puts it together. In lower leagues both teams are struggling to score. Every ball flies to corner off GK chest.
    Seems that STR more than 10 is a "stat check" and the game mechanics are broken so your scoring chance is negligable otherwise.
    I think that if change 10-20 test to 1-10 result may be even more noticeable.

    It is also interesting if the results will be the same if the formations are different, as strikers in 2-striker tactics usually attack the goal and shoot from different angles, compared to the lone striker tactics. Also, as somebody already mentioned, did the players had either footed preferrence and to ask it that way - to what extend does the preferred foot impact the finishing ability?

  • @2bridgesproductions392

    Nice - I guess it depends on your squad. Personally, I love strikers who can drop back as IF so -- pace (and dribbling), baby, pace. Position flexibility is so useful when having to play 3 times a week during champions league season.

  • @SNNTV3000
    @SNNTV3000 Před 3 lety

    i feel like you should do these but instead of everyone just having 10 of everything you could work out what the average cb, rb and lb and etc. are, in terms of attributes and height and even footedness, then you get to test the striker attributes against what the average backline, that might affect the success of certain attributes (like heading) although i do think there’s a lot of successful takeaways to your test especially the “creating shots > finishing shots” point

  • @ssben7605
    @ssben7605 Před 3 lety

    The results make sense as in my new ac Milan save Zlatan had good stats but lacked physically due to his age, his attributes over time lowered, his ability to get into the spaces required to have a shot on goal was so limit he only scored 2 goals in all comps in which he played about 30-32 games, it’s sad because I feel like you can’t have a nostalgic older player brought in at the end of his career even tho his stats are still good

    I'd like to see some combination tests, although they're naturally more complex. Like with finishing for example, it's closely tied with technique. A high finishing with a poor technique is basically useless as I see it. The reason why something like strength dominates is because it doesn't need a support attribute of any kind.

  • @20Talin
    @20Talin Před 3 lety +1

    Hi zealand if you do the same but with all attributes in 15 and the specific one with 10 could be other way to see the importance of the attributes

  • @CatoInvictus
    @CatoInvictus Před 3 lety

    Attributes you can't live without would be a cool experiment. Something like a database where players on a team all have 1 in a single stat, and then 10 in all other stats. So for instance, team "Low Dribbling" would have 10 in every stat except dribbling, which would be 1. This could be useful for lower league saves when you're evaluating players who have mostly good stats, but there's a stat or two that's abysmal.

    Two things we REALLY need to know.
    1. The Combo. The 3 Stats Combined that outpace all other 3 Stat Combos. Because getting a guy with 9 to 12 Stats really high isn't likely, but finding a guy (and training a guy) in the Right 3 can be done by most of us. And then, of course, the Training Regiment that amps those specific 3. :D
    2. And the C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! What Stat fights in the shade, alone on a narrow mountain pass, the True Spartan that just keeps the Combo at Bay... if one exists.
    Then we can create fan-fic and role play about these epic struggles. No... wait... we just Train guys in FM23 and let them duke it out there. I guess we can still role-play while we do that, though.

    I have an idea for an experiment - which position is most important? Have a bunch of teams, each with players in a different position's scores boosted up by 2 from the baseline 10.
    Or boost to 20 if you wanna be crazy about it, I'd just be really interested to see that incremental change

    Gotta agree with BiggDanKillen Strikers being dominant in 1 attribute is something I wonder how same experiment will result when the opponent defenders have all attributes 15. While it is easy to infer that high off the ball strikers perform better they're simply beating up relatively low off the ball and positioning defenders. While I appreciate your experimental educational video. I believe If defender stats are raised to overperform against striker's non-isolated stats results may vary. This experiment checks out striker attribute performance against less CA(current ability) defenders, I wonder how will the results change against same or higher CA defenders.

    which is most important, mental, skill or physical attributes?
    also were these games played in the 3d match engine or in the sim whilst unemployed? I find that matches i play without changing tactics get different results than going on holiday and use current team and tactics. the scores can be dramatically different. (yeah i save scum)
