    Hi Harry,
    Much agree with you on the B500. On my first visit many years back in our Elise, we did that road having read lots about it and left disappointed. We did love the area though and were determined not to be put off. On a subsequent trip I routed us from Freiburg up towards Baden Baden without using the 500 and it’s a revelation. I’d say equals most of the famous alpine passes. Moreover you should look at some of the roads over the border in the Vosges Mountains of France. I love the area so much that I’ve recently emigrated to Germany and live just an hour now from the Black Forest. Don’t give up on it - if you want any road tips I have files and files of my favourite roads there and in the Vosges!!!

    Spot on Harry, apparently the B500 used to be great several years ago. I've been twice on motorbike tours, most recently about 4 years ago and thought it was a complete waste of time. It would only be interesting to ride or drive if at least double the new speed limits. There are other good roads around there, but the attitude to bikes and general speed limits means its off my list now for a touring holiday.

    Thierry Bollore, the worst automotive CEO, threw the entire Jaguar brand under the bus. This is the pinnacle of Jaguar; an exciting saloon car that is both conformable and performance based. Exactly the history of Jaguar in one car - Project 8. Little wonder Julian Thomson walked...

    • @nudisco300
      @nudisco300 Před 2 lety +1

      Jaguar are in the business of selling cars. The XE has never sold in the numbers they wanted and neither did its predecessor the X Type. Thierry did exactly the right thing by taking Jaguar up market and ditching these entry level saloons. They didn't work in the early 2000s and they don't work now. I'm glad he's in charge because JLR was starting to morph into the Rover group focusing on volume and having a car in each category. Car makers thrive when they focus on their niche or core customer. It's only then they can truly make cars that people want.
      If JLR truly want to have a mass market presence without damaging the Jaguar brand then they could resurrect the Rover name and reintroduce as an extension of Land/Range Rover.

    • @johnsim3722
      @johnsim3722 Před 2 lety

      @@nudisco300 Yet the cars were profitable. Thierry threw the entire range under the bus, cancelled the replacement XJ citing it used old technology, yet that same platform is the basis of the new Range Rovers! Doesn't add up. Stating they're going full electric, but there's a long way to go between being full electric and where they are now with increased use of hybrid technology. And Jaguar have never used how advanced the I-Pace is in their marketing. And that is their current biggest failure - poor marketing.
      That's why Bollore is the worse automotive CEO, a surprise late entry taking that title away from Tobais Moers.

      U r talking so much BS.
      As per the other guy, XF and XE have lately only sold in very small numbers worldwide.
      SUV is all the rage, not 4 door sedan.
      XJ was (sadly) only going to sell in small numbers, so not worth going ahead with it.
      Jaguar total worldwide sales is minimal.
      2018 - 180,800
      2019 - 161,600
      2020 - 102,500 ( Covid related fall )
      I doubt they were profitable.
      Making ongoing losses is not sustainable.
      Everyone is going EV, and the
      R & D costs are huge.
      Jaguar only have 100,000 vehicles to amortise this cost.
      Thierry has made some very tough, but correct decisions.
      I’m a big Jaguar fan.
      So much great history and nostalgia value with the brand, but this does not pay the bills.
      I Pace is a great car.
      Jaguar have not done enough to promote this vehicle.
      As of 2025, all EV
      An EV E - Pace
      An EV F - Pace
      And an EV replacement for the
      F - Type.
      Make these cars very special and upmarket.
      And more expensive
      Overall total sales will be less than now, BUT profitable.
      Thierry is securing Jaguars ongoing viability and future.

    • @johnsim3722
      @johnsim3722 Před 2 lety

      @@StephenFogarty2023 I hope you're right. You may have missed that there won't be a selection of "Pace" cars, but only one. Bollore is going to remove the SUVs from Jaguar, the cars that have been selling best.
      XJ he's cancelling stating it's using old technology, but that is the basis of the new Range Rover which he was happy to go ahead with, and now you don't have shared costs.
      No other company is making this sudden switch to electric because there's a lot of life left in normal cars, a lot of infrastructure. As EV technology improves, and especially where it's needed in the battery department, it will be sensible to move products more towards electric, but that time isn't now. And it's not going to change in 2025 either. There has to be a transition through hybrid first.

    • @StephenFogarty2023
      @StephenFogarty2023 Před 2 lety

      @@johnsim3722
      Hybrid has been around a long time
      EV technology improving so rapidly
      Compare a full EV 5 yrs ago to now, and imagine how much better it will be in another 5 years.
      Irrespective of what u say about the XJ
      It was not going to sell in meaningful numbers
      S class and 7 series dominate this space of the market.
      And sales of large luxury sedans is declining extremely rapidly, as people buy more
      Benz GLE / GLS
      BMW X5 / X7
      Instead.
      Jaguar are a small niche company, so the plan Thierry unveiled makes a lot of sense.

Great tarmac, superb open sweeping bends and fantastic views. I remember following a local 911 on an epic ride. Hi Harry, ever since EVO formed and blossomed, I have religiously followed your intrinsically pure approach to journalistically de-constructing exotica for my eager consumption. As a former farmer and agricultural contractor, I am addicted to your measured and well balanced agricultural perspective through Harrys Farm. With that in mind, may I just say, as a died in the wool car enthusiast of varying means to indulge over the years. If your dislikes of the project 8 interior stem from the lack of logo's and inherent 'specialness' as manifested by legible badges and constant reminder that you have something special...... fill me in, as I cant quite compute how 600hp and a pretty much handmade engine and drivetrain wouldnt more than compensate for such apparent issues. I get that you have dropped what constitutes 5 years of a UK average wage on a wicked low volume amazing statement car, but. The spec you have with a deleted wing and rear seats shouts Q car to me , so merely wanted to ask.....why the need for trinkets to remind you of what you already know so well....Please dont take this as a negative, I merely am in awe of your amazing stable of eclectic and beautifully understated cars, which are only achieving a mainstream audience via great channels like your own.
    I'm just confused by some of the dichotomy/contradictions....dare I say it...!!

      As I mentioned in the video, they decided to go with out gas particulate filters in the exhaust, which became mandatory for all new EU cars in September 2018. This meant Jaguar could no longer sell the car in certain markets and deposits had to be returned to buyers. All these pre-ordered Project 8 ended up as orphan cars and eventually went on sale in the UK, where they could still be sold under single type approval.
      So sad really, if enthusiasts realised how special the Project 8 really is, there would be have been a queue around the block for it.
      In BMW terms it's an M3 fitted with the drivetrain out of the ultimate M5 CS. Just think how well that would have sold!

    I am a Brit living in Sydney. We go to Baden Baden every year for a blast on the roads around Baden Baden. At the Avis there you can rent a 911 quite easily and relatively cheaply. We've done that 3 times now. The B500 itself is not too good, especially with the daft new restrictions, but the side roads (including those at the Baden Baden end) are amazing. That speed camera has been there at the bottom of the hill for years FYI. The side roads down and up the valleys are the places to go. They are quiet and you can drive in a spirited fashion. Plus a side trip to the Porsche museum at Zuffenhausen or the Technik Museum at Sinsheim (planes and automobiles). If you really want to treat yourself try Brenners in Baden-Baden, one of the best hotels globally IMHO. We cannot wait to get back there again.

    Triberg was a really busy town during Xmas before Covid.
    Under the stress of the crowd, my wife burned the clutch when driving the uphill.

    Hate it when what were once excellent roads become festooned with speed cameras enforcing a lower limit. The A48 from Gloucester to Chepstow was a favourite of mine as an alternative to the M50, then the cameras arrived and I haven't used it for years.

    I'm so glad I have seen that Schau-insland (apparently) hillclimb. My father and grandfather raced sidecars up it in the 1950s. I have the big cuckoo clock (prize they got for winning it) too. There's also the old Saarland Grand Prix circuit somewhere around there if I remember rightly. But thanks Harry, that's really ticked off a bucket list thing for me. They used to coast back down it too apparently!!

    Dear Harry,
    A note on the "Tempo 30" in German cities: very often you find a "22 - 6 h Lärmschutz" underneath the sign, which means that you only have to drive 30kph at night, so the people may sleep. During the daytime in these areas, you should go 50kph. I dont know if you knew this, but seeing you use footage from such a "Lärmschutz" zone while talking about "30 in cities", i figured it might be worth pointing out.
    But dont confuse them with the "7-17h" signs! Those are in school zones, and they mean that you have to drive 30 during the daytime to protect the schoolchildren. Just look at the indicated hours :)

    Great video Harry, real shame that that road had been ruined. I can actually appreciate strict speed limits in towns and unrestricted big roads compared with the bizarre constantly changing variable speed limits in the UK I'd definitely take it.

    I’m sorry you had such a poor experience in the black forest and on the 500 Harry. I did it a few years ago in a Jaguar XKR, it was sunny and there was no traffic what so ever, it was a fabulous drive and the only cars we did spot we enjoyable overtaking targets. We were on our way back from the Italian GP in Monza, a trip that took in the Ferrari Museum & Factory (where we saw Luca de Montezemolo by chance), the Mille Miglia museum, the Imola track and Ayrton Senna Memorial and all of the famous alpine passes you can eat. But somehow the blast through the Black Forest was the highlight of the trip. I think you need to go back. In the summer. On a mid week day! PS thanks for the great content!

    Really great video again Harry. Car journalism will be over as we know it when electric cars come out. You don't have the engine and exhaust noise to talk about. It will be just talking about a soulless car and what the battery range is. You look at any electric car channel out there today. They just moan about the difficulty in charging and wait time as the charging points are full or broken and range. My neighbour has a Tesla. He hates it with a passion. He wished he had never bought it. Now it sits lengthways against the garage door with two cars parked in front of it until the lease is up. He has also said that in the winter it is a waste of time. I live in Calgary Canada where we are already seeing -14C and real winter is coming where the battery range is useless.

    So love the inspiring content :). This trend of setting speed limits specifically to stop people enjoying roads (rather than for safety reasons) is very worrying. The evo route through the Brecon Beacons is a victim too (as im sure you know). Do any route planning apps allow you to select routes that are primarily de-restricted/nsl ??

    Agreed on the B500 toward Baden, ultra managed and not much fun. Completed a Euro bike trip to Mugello and came back via Dolomites, South Tyrol, Lake Constance and some dodgy open carriaged train under a mountain range! and into Freudenstadt better roads that end 🏎🏍💨
