I was a teen in the 80's and It is impossible to over-state the impression Roxy Music's Avalon had on me. I still listen to it today 36 years later. Better than the garbage I'm hearing on the pop radio stations.

WAY up there in terms of all time great songs. Definitely my favorite Roxy song and has been since it came out. So cool, smooth and silky.

Ferry has never had a great voice, IMO--very average, at best. But his music has always been elegant and soulful, wonderfully arranged, and he's always got a kick-a$$ band.

What a performance! Still can't believe I was at this show. Bryan had been ill prior to this and almost pulled out but decided to go ahead with a reduced set. Think it was only around 45 minutes with no encore... It really flew by but it was still one of the best shows ever!
Avalon and Boys and Girls are the two most “panty droppin” albums I’ve ever heard.
I can't believe how good he sounds. Love this song and many others from roxy music. Those were the days!

I like that version of Slave to Love, making it slightly "harder" without loosing it lushness.
And one more thing: The drumming of both pieces is nothing complicated at all. But even there you hear what difference a class drummer makes.

Such an assembly of fine voices. Notice, too, the emphasis given the guitar. It's these wonderful backup singers, Bryan Ferry, and the several guitars, especially bass guitar, that gives this song its feel.
