    Do you have any other strategies that seem to make shy frogs bolder and more outgoing? I’d love to hear about your experiences here in the comment section.

    Great video and your tanks are so beautiful! The vittatus are stunning. Great tips too. I keep some red galacs (a known shy species) where half the tank is shaded and they are becoming more bold.

    Thanks for the video bro, great tips. I love how much you know about dart frogs, I learn a lot from your videos. Keep it up my friend!

    You should make a compilation of your dart frogs feeding/being active without commentary, it's really nice to watch.

    I can attest that Azureus dont seem to be shy at all, i keep my enclosure also close to where im mostly at in my home, and he/she is completely fearless, and i have not noticed any stress signs at all, even now when im inside tidying up with the plants, he/she is not even that scared of my hands inside the enclosure.

      Yes, all tinctorius locales are almost always extremely bold and exceptions are rare.

    MAybe you can do a video on how to tell the difference between male and female? I got 3 D. leucomelas, but have no idea of the sexes... (took them over from someone who didn't know either).

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials  Před rokem

      I’ll definitely consider it.
      Leucomelas are a bit tricky. You usually go by body shape and size for them, but it’s hard to tell when it comes to juveniles and young adults. There are comparison pictures out there if you give it a google search, but the best way to know for sure is that males call and females lay eggs.

    Do you have a list of plants you use for these tanks?

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials  Před rokem

      Unfortunately I don’t have an updated list, but I’m considering doing a video showing all the plants I currently have.
      However, if you check out my video “How to plant a dart frog vivarium”, you’ll see that many plant names are mentioned in that video.

    Thank you for the great advice and maybe you can help me make a decision. I want to get dart frogs for my paludarium which will live successfully with mourning geckos. Do you have any suggestions?
    I have a video of my paludarium on my channel.
    😊

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials  Před rokem +1

      You can successfully keep dart frogs in paludariums, but the water features come with many problems since they’re not optimal environments for dart frogs. They want humid to dry leaf litter, not soaking wet moss and water pools. It’s not wrong to keep a small water feature in a dart frog tank if you also provide a lot of land area with leaf litter etc., but if the water feature takes away a significant amount of living space from the frogs, I’d consider getting a different tank for the dart frogs.
      That said, dart frogs that tend to do well with mourning geckos include Dendrobates and the smaller Phyllobates species, but it’s risky to keep mourning geckos with thumbnails (since the geckos might hurt the frogs) or P. terribilis (since the frogs might hurt the geckos).

    My dendrobates auratus (highland bronze) kinda disappeared for a few days and I heard that’s normal in the hobby to not see your frog at all for weeks or months, is that true? There’s a good amount of leaf litter, temp is around 70, humidity is around 90, and the vivarium is definitely large enough for one singular dart frog. Is there something I’m doing wrong or?

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It’s most likely nothing to worry about, and it is to be expected especially if you’re keeping him alone. I’ve gone weeks without seeing certain frogs but I rarely worry about that anymore. Keep feeding the tank and it should be good. If it’s any comfort, even if he wasn’t alive and well, ripping the tank apart most likely wouldn’t help anyways, and if he is alive and healthy, it certainly won’t make it happier to come out more either.

    I too have come to the conclusion that frogs are canopy animals , shady , dappled sunlight is what they like , They would never be out in full sun in nature .

    is there any type of dart frog that could live in an 18 x 18 x 18 exo terra its whole life

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials  Před rokem

      Most species can in my opinion, but if you haven’t bought the tank yet, you won’t regret an extra 6 inches of height. The 18x18x24 looks nicer, is easier to scape/plant and provides more climbing opportunities, but the 18-cube is totally fine too.

      People who breed often mix juveniles when growing them out. It saves space, and is before hybridization or sexual aggression are an issue.
