  • What's up guys! Welcome back to the Creative Channel!
I've got another Voctave song coming to you on the CC today!! This one was absolutely, positively, without a doubt, AMAZING!!! Just WOW!!! I was blown away by the arrangement as well as the pure beauty of execution by all members. I love this group so much and was so excited to listen to this one. Not only did they choose amazing songs to include in this medley, but the talent is CRAZY GOOD!
They did a phenomenal job as always, and I expected nothing less. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and I'm so excited for more. Thanks for watching!! :)

A little secret?? Jamey Ray, Voctave's founder/arranger, has arranged a few songs for each of those groups. Prince of Egypt is incredible and the very short Stampede, from The Lion king has an opening chord that doesn't sound like human voices... awesome!

Oh wow! That’s cool! Loveeee Prince of Egypt medley. Gonna have to do that one soon too!

Funny you should say Jamey Ray had a Disney voice, because they all have worked for Disney at one point or another. That is where they met, at Walt Disney World. Most of them are or have been members of Voices of Liberty that sing in the American Pavilion at Epcot. Jamey also teaches music at Rollins College on the north side of Orlando, and I believe originally he started just arranging songs, then having different members of Voices of Liberty come record their part and he called it the Magic of Voices, but when they did the Disney Love Medley, one of the guest vocals, Jeremy Michael Lewis talked to him about having a cohesive group of the same members each time and coming up with a name. Since they cover 5 octaves, (using the Roman numeral for 5, V) they called themselves Voctave.
But I would agree, all of Jamey Ray’s arrangements are what set Voctave apart from all the other groups out there. They are the consummate professionals who all love what they do, and most have graduate degrees in music too, so they are also highly trained. IMHO, Voctave is, hands down, the best A Cappella group out there, and I’ve always said it!
Listen to their newest release, “Where Are You Christmas?” Where Ashley and her little boy sing the solo parts. It is so sweet that it makes grown men cry! More Voctave Reactions Please!

Jamey Ray, the arranger and founder of Voctave was the lead singer on this video. He not only can arrange, but sing as well.

Just found your channel, love the reaction. Another acapella rabbit hole is Voiceplay . I am going to go thru your Playlist of all the acapella groups. I just subscribed.

Outstanding reaction! Love all the positivity you exude in your videos.
Since you liked this one so much, you'll like Voctave's "Disney Heroes & Villains Medley" even more. That one features solos from all 6 Voctave men, and the arrangement is even more complex than this one. There's no music video for it yet but there's an audio version on CZcams. I heard them sing it live twice and it's absolutely mind-blowing! 🤯

Voctave, Pentatonix, and Home Free have cost me more sleep in the last couple of years. These 3 groups are like rabbit holes that I can't avoid. I love your reactions to my favorite groups and enjoy your insights and input. Therefore, I have no choice but to subscribe. Thank you!!!

Yes yes yes, more voctave! I know you mentioned you've listened to lots of Voctave, but I would really love more Voctave reactions. Of course the Christmas stuff will be coming up soon, but maybe something off of their broadway and mainstreet volume 2 album if you haven't heard it yet? Prince of Egypt and Disney Heroes and Villains would probably be the top two from the album, although they're all great. Thanks for making the video!

Not sure of your knowledge of Voctave. The first soloist is Jamey Ray, he arranges all of Voctave music. He performed a duet, with Rachel Potter, with pre-Voctave vocals as background (at that point, they were Voices of Magic) singing Whole New World from Aladdin.
Voctave always seem to have fun, and really play off each other in every performance. Their recent release, of “The Trolley Song” from “Meet me in St Louis” shows just how much fun they can have.

I’m familiar with a few, the ones you mentioned included in that familiarity, but I’m definitely not versed in Voctave knowledge! That’s interesting…didn’t know that about Voices of Magic!

@@creativecrewfam I looked back at a few other videos. I was mistaken. They were “Magic of Voices”
“Fly medley, frozen medley. You have more friends than you know” are some of their vids.

I put Voctave in its own a capella catagory because the number of vocalists vary, depending on the arrangement. Among the a capella quintets, I list Pentatonix, Home Free, and VoicePlay in the top three (No particular order).

You should also listen to Voice Play. Their bass, Geoff Castellucci does a lot of their arrangements (as well as his own solo work). He has also arranged some songs for Home Free in the past.

Excellent reaction. Now that the Holiday season is upon us, you might want to check out Voctave's rendition of Mary, Did You Know featuring Mark Lowry, the song's lyricist, O Come All Ye Faithful, This is My Wish/Let There be Peace on Earth, O Come O Come Emmanuel/The First Noel/I Wonder as I Wander, Joy to the World, and Jingle Bells. Pick one... you will not be disappointed!!!

@@creativecrewfam I am 2 years late so I thought I would use this to let you know my thoughts. Well more emotions than thoughts. I watched this video the same way I am forced to watch all their performances. I am laughing and crying at the same time.
When I listen to any of their performances I open my brain as big as I can to hear everything and at some point I get to the point where like Cate Blanchett's character in that, Indiana Jones movie, 'The Chrystal Skull' where she says, "stop it's too much"!! Did you hear Kate's high note swope? She took a note and went straight up with it until her voice ran out. I've heard Morissette from the Philippines do that with a whistle tone, but not a pure singing voice.
So I hear all that goes on and I laugh because it is all too stupid good and cry because individually they all sing some of the prettiest notes and lines in the world.

  • @brendagrothier967

Voltage with the number of members can sound a lot more like a chorus than PTX or Home Free with just five members.

Gotta agree with your assessement. I listen to plenty of acapella groups, but a lot of them come off as...very shallow 'pop acapella' covers when compared to what Voctave routinely puts out. Everyone else tends to sound a bit on the thin side.
