    • @dennisboge7151
      @dennisboge7151 Před 3 lety

      Manas there has different usecases for this tools.
      When you want automate your virtual server itself, there’s puppet, Ansible or chef the right.
      Terraform is primary to provision systems, like aws or esxi / VMware or other hypervisor.
      The primary different between puppet and ansible is the declareted (puppet) or procedural (Ansible) way the tool itself works. Terraform is a declarative stat tool, too. Puppet need a agent and is protected by a ssl / own pki and has no ssh connection between the master server and his agents. The agents pull his manifest (playbook by ansible) scheduled all 15min and execute them. Ansible is per default only on run when you start it on cli and change thinks, or not ;)
      So, puppet Agent check his manifest and setup configuration back, if there is declare in his manifest and some has change it in cli direkt into the vm.
      In my case I use terraform for provision (create / change / delete virtual Maschine on VMware) and puppet to provision the vm itself, to run a Webserver for example.
      I hope this helps to understand 😄

      If the technology uses agents, it’s DOA.
      Agents simply don’t scale in modern environments, if you have to install anything on a client the platform won’t fly; think about having to fire up and destroy 100k plus instances per day or more and you get the idea.
      Having to depend on database engines and other heavy support modules is also a non starter in modern stacks.
      Puppet, Chef, salt stack and similar are dead end and will be crushed under their own support weight; talk about pets vs cattle...

      No ill will here. It’s just part of the CCNA/CCNP exam topics and I wanted to cover it here.

      @@NetworkChuck From my perspective. I am learning to use Ansible, python, nornir, netbox and webhooks, AND my normal Cisco stuff. It feels like overload to have someone say you must learn Puppet as well now. Puppet is another language to learn, and a different way of thinking. Be nice to see more instructions on topics you've already pushed.

      Also, I hope that doesn't feel negative. I really appreciate your channel. Your ansible video game just in time as I had forgotten fundamentals

      @@loztagain8278 The world of network automation is just starting. The reason of jumping around I think is because of just needing to understand the concept of the different tools. It's like learning RIPv2 and not OSPF. OSPF might work better for you or maybe EIGRP. @NetworkChuck keep doing what you are doing. Awesome videos.

      @@getto59 aye, but it's about focus. Learning about routing protocols was a gradual process. There are always trends.
      I think people wouldn't be bothered if the titles weren't "you need to know this now" when it just doesn't look that way. Sitting on netbox day for instance, no one is using puppet. They are all using Ansible, or nornir. Everytime I speak about netdevops with people it's those two over and over.
      Anyway, I still appreciate the content.
