  • Joseph Goldstein explores the concept of dependent origination - the law of causality and conditioning - so we can understand the process that keeps us bound to the Wheel of Samsara.
“In every moment of noticing, in every moment of being mindful, when there is no ignorance, when there is no delusion, when we are seeing things actually as they are, in that moment, the mind is purified; we are breaking this chain of dependent origination, we are breaking the link of it.” - Joseph Goldstein
    In this episode, Joseph explores:
    - The Wheel of Life, also known as the Wheel of Samsara
    - Why the law of dependent origination, or the law of causality and conditioning, keeps us bound to the Wheel of Samsara
    - Each link along the chain of dependent origination
    - How cycles within the 12 links in the law of dependent origination keep the wheel forever spinning
    - How Vipassana practice can help us cut into those cycles and break the chain of dependent origination
This dharma talk from October 29, 1985, was originally published on Dharma Seed.

Such a difficult concept explained so well that even a simpleton like my-self can understand.

In Persia/Iran and throughout the Middle East rugs are purposely made 'imperfect' so as not to anger the Gods. It is an act of humility. Indigenous and ancient cultures usually have lessons built in that teach us how to 'Human' well.

This has nothing to do with concepts of god or gods.. but dropping those ideas might be an act of humility.

@@TheNativoamericanoits good to know when it's accurate. Two problems. One, there is only one God in the religion of the Middle East, which is Islam. Two, leaving imperfections is to acknowledge that only Allah is perfect...its not about keeping the god's from getting angry.

We all carry our ancestors within us. I learnt from my caregivers and my children will develop through the behavour of mine. So we are all an affect of the past and we all effect the future whilst in the present. Intention over action. I can encourage a positive future for my DNA through my intentions.

@@alankuntz6494Indeed. The notself Buddha meant is what the adavita means by the Self. The life and teachings of Ramana Maharshi in our age are enough to prove anatta and Brahman is the same

I heard about relationship yoga from ram dass now I got her locked down cuz he said it was hard I took that as meaning effective like I watch my own reactions to the crazy stuff she says but it’s only crazy cuz she’s “supposed to recognize everything I do” -my brain. Like irdk what I’m doing just trying to keep everything together basically these videos are wildly on point and gives me perspective the value of which is close to life.. “we go back to old patterns when we awaken” just the way she says it makes all the sense even tho the patterns are no longer effective if we are blindly seeking comfort or security in our separation we don’t care we will use them because they hold traces of the old self

I no longer believe in the concept of the individual reincarnation.
As in the Zen there is no such thing as the self.
I now believe that we all come out of source consciousness and return to source consciousness.
In theory we have all lived every life that has been lived because source consciousness is all that truly exist.

@@fingerprint5511 it makes perfectly good sense to me and everything here is designed to keep you trapped in 3D reality.
Your problem is you are in love with the ego-self and you want to keep the ego self alive forever that is the falsehoods that religions teach.
We are each points of awareness of the All.
We can't be one and the all can't be the all if the ego self actually exist.

@@darrellernst5493'Form' is 'emptiness' and 'emptiness' is 'form'.
'Form' is no other than 'emptiness' and 'emptiness' no other than 'form'.
'Form is ONLY 'emptiness' and 'emptiness is ONLY 'form'.
Where then is nirvana? Where is the self?.........and where is 'source consciousness'? Is it the space within the jar that defines the jar? Is it neither the jar or the space? Is it both the jar and the space?.......but what do we call this? Is there a word for this?
I am not you and you are not me but i am all of you and you are all of me.
Death and life. A man walking.

    "The Imperfections of Rugs
No one can be perfect but God. Consequently, no object that was produced by a human being should be perfect, because perfection may be interpreted as an offence to Allah. This standpoint is important for Muslim worshipers. No wonder numerous Muslim rug makers deliberately ‘implement’ some mistakes into their carpets."

    The Art of Deliberate Imperfection
    KAUSHIK PATOWARY AUG 28, 2017
In Navajo culture, rug weavers would leave little imperfections along the borders in the shape of a line called ch'ihónít'i, which is translated into English as "spirit line" or "spirit pathway. The Navajos believe that when weaving a rug, the weaver entwines part of her being into the cloth. The spirit line allows this trapped part of the weaver's spirit to safely exit the rug.
