- This is a video I made in Lakeland Florida of a railroad crossing malfunctioning before and after Amtrak the Silver Star goes through.
Video was edited to save time while gates where down.

People either forget, or don't care, but you DO NOT cross the tracks...the raising...and lowering of the crossing arms. You must WAIT...until the lights are at least off

The driver of that semi truck in the intro is crazy for running the crossing like that. He's lucky that the gate didn't come down in between the cab and trailer, not wise on his part. I'm sure it has happened to a truck somewhere before though.

Once near me one side had a gate down lights off and other had gate up lights on. It Was Stuck For 2 Hours And Peak Delaying The Highway Nearby.

That constantly happens at Morse Blvd. in Winter Park, FL all the time too. It didn't happen as much when the rail was jointed, but when they went to welded rail and the insulators were removed, which are used on jointed rail, seems this issue got worse.
Been awhile since I've been railfanning, but last time I was in W.P., one side was still jointed rail, that said rarely had this "ghosting" issue, gates and lights activated, but the welded side when a train went through seemed to do this almost every single time!
But I noticed it also depended on the trains speed too, the faster the train went through on the welded rail side, the more apt the crossing was to malfunction every time, if slower, not as apt to malfunction. Which I thought was definitely weird!
So I guess the welded rail side uses a different type of detection/activation than the jointed side of the tracks. The welded side has no insulators in the block to control the signal activation/deactivation, so I'm not sure how that side functions, unlike the jointed side.
Any signal maintainers out here that could explain how that works and the difference in detection between welded vs jointed rail for crossing signals?

Key Lock I would expect that they went with a different kind of Sensor to Detect when the train is coming . I only expect that what They're using now is a type of "MAGNETIC" Sensor that uses a Magnetic Field to see if there's some thing like Iron in it's Field , just like the Magnetic Sensors used on Turning lanes for modernized paved roads , You may have seen them , it looks like an octagon carved into the road at turn lane stops . :) .

Ok the point was that with the Magnetic Detection Method then We don't have to have any M oving Parts that can Wear Away over Time , it's all completely strong all the way through and will Wear Away at the same rate as the rest of the track (well the Weld will Wear Away Slower than the rest of the Track Steel lol ) . Or I may have totally misunderstood what You meant . lol . Take Care Person :) .
