Those venatosaurus were relentless in that level. It was almost impossible to predict when one or two were coming at you. Top that off with there barely being any cover, resorting to moving under the brontos for protection while also worrying about the chances of getting stomped or attacked by the raptors anyway, and having to carry the fire all the way back to the start of the level, making you much more vulnerable, then a V-Rex shows up. Talk about a freaking heart attack of a game and superb level design.
They were really smart with the execution of this scene. They only had to animate a walk cycle for one brontosaurus, duplicate it, and program a cycle of spawning and de-spawning them as opposed to having to make an AI system. They just let the animation play out as a background to the main gameplay just out of reach to the player, making the whole sequence feel even more larger-than-life than the dinosaur npcs that you see in other games.
That's what made it so scary at times. There were hardly any hints and not a single button prompt being shown on the screen. The game itself wasn't like a companion, guiding the player. You were truly on your own without the others.
I have both ps2 and xbox 360 versions of this game and honestly the brontosaurus scene in the brontosaurus level was best part of the whole game for me
The way you played through the last part was like watching a legit horror movie. I personally find the spear jabbing mechanic completely useless so seeing you spam that while trying to outrun the raptors had me on edge every time. 😂
I remember always being terrified during this part of the game, the feeling of being constantly hunted was something else
as a kid i stg i would be scared to move or do anything it felt like something was coming

This was a very underrated game.
The fact that you literally have to count your bullets with no hud is a very nice touch.
Actually, you can turn on the HUD from the option screen
@@D-Ender I've always turned it off for the immersion factor.
TWO MAGAZINES ON BACKUP
@@D-Ender There is no hud by default. The way the game was intended to be experienced.
Imagine just how breathtaking would be to play this in VR glasses...
Traumatizing you mean lol
This game makes me nostalgia today. I miss this game.
I remember this scene when I was playing this King Kong on my PS2 and it was so damn badass good!!

What makes it interesting is that you can chuck spears at the brontos and they would start running
@@forrestgumball That's sick, in both ways.
@@forrestgumball They start to run and if you keep at it they'll actually attack the player with their head. I know from experience. lol
They're breathtaking!
No your breathtaking!
"Ooh, aah that's how it always starts, then there's running and screaming."
@@slipstreamxr3763JP2 lost world reference, a dinosaur man of culture.
This makes me miss King Kong
These scenes make you really feel alone while you are traveling
