    Great video, SxS is a wand, O/U is a club, that’s the condensed version of this video. AYA and I shoot it for everything, love outshooting those O/U’s 😀

    I love both O/U and SxS’s and fortunate enough to have both in 12 & 20Ga.

    Great video, I’ve mostly shot an over n under for about 18 years but would definitely enjoy a side by side for bird shooting. I think it would be fun and at my age retired and all, I want to have fun

    I own both an Over Under and Side by Side, I prefer the Side by Side for upland hunting and the Over Under for Sporting Clays.

    You could be a terrible shot with a side by side. Maybe a over under would improve this. If you don’t like the style of the gun it won’t really matter.I find my double barrels are so much more appealing to me. We all don’t have to be perfect shooters. I don’t care . Side by sides are just great.

      Persimmon woods or the ugly monsters they make them for drivers today? I would go for the classic side by side, but I also like hickory clubs and would drive a replica 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster if I could afford one.

    Ha, they made over/under shotguns and rifles in the 18th century. I don't think it was a machinery issue, I think it's a preference issue on side x side or over/ under.

    You should have made mention of the most important difference between SxS and O/U. That being you do not reliably shoot SxS from a bladed stance which is fine for an O/U but with a SxS will cause the left barrel to shoot wide right of point of aim due to the recoil characteristics of SxS. SxS should alays be fired from a straight on facing stance sam as with a double rifle.

    I am not certain but I believe the over and under came first, both rifle and shotguns were made that way in the black powder days. I have seen a "mule ear" lock that used the over under design. I also believe you are right when you say the subject will never be settled, good video thanks for giving us a look at this subject.

    • @carminemurray6624
      @carminemurray6624 Před 2 lety +4

      I would rather believe the SxS came first as with the early evolution of Spanish and British and other manufacturers of flintlock SxS shotguns predominantly hammer guns, with the necessary ease of practical regulating of barrels, and sighting planes.

    • @pbgd3
      @pbgd3 Před 2 lety +2

      pretty sure side by sides came first
      Before break actions there were side by side muzzle loaders with a ram rod beneath and hammers on the side. I believe well predating rifling at all as a concept.

      The first over under I'm familiar with was a shotgun barrel on top with a rifle barrel beneath.

    Hello, dear master; I am a flying partridge, woodcock, quail, turtledove, big wild pigeon and flighted rabbit hunter. I want to buy a second hand used classic double shotgun. There are many rifle brands. I can't decide which brand of rifle to buy. Can you tell me the brand of a light, high-quality classic shotgun that does not use a double trigger, has a good shot, does not use cartridges, and shoots all kinds of pellets with efficiency? Which brand of double rifle do you recommend to buy? As an experienced gunsmith, what is your suggestion for me? Thank you.

    What i find that side by side are pointing gun and u/o are aiming then pointing guns ,when you shoot with side by side you always point where as in u/o it is tendency to shoot the way you shoot rifle .

    I have an sbs over under and side by side 12 inch barrel....
    The side by side feels waaaay heavier ?!
    Maybe cuz its hammer ??

    • @michaelkingsbury4305
      @michaelkingsbury4305 Před rokem

      Side by sides can usually be built lighter and than over unders. Side by sides only look heavier because of the width of the sighting plane. Of course over unders are more common nowadays and many side by sides are older guns and there is the difference in materials...

    SxS lead better but too much thought goes into it. Left barrel will shoot far right and opposite for right barrel, due to "barrel peeping". Swing right to left, pull front... Swing left to right, pull rear.
