My best friend is in love with your station and says he grew up listening to your station 50 years ago. He lived in Montreal. Myself I never heard of you. I was busy listening to FM radio in Montreal when it first started out. Before that for me was am radio in the Montreal area. "Keep on rocking in the real world." Neil Young
this man and 77 WABC radio made me the radio addict I still am. on my first transistor radio, 1962
Sadly, I missed music on WABC radio by 7 months. Bruce Morrow was on WABC 77AM until 1974 and then moved to WNBC 660AM.
THANK YOU JOHN "CATS" you did us a great service to BRING BACK 77 WABC
Congratulations WABC
One of the most amazing times of my life 1960 -1980. The sound track of our lives. Palisades park commercials, raceway park, crazy Eddie commercial. The disco days, the late 60s early 70s were the best, brucie, Harry Harrison, chuck Leonard, Ron Lundy, dan ingram these guys were our lives growing up in NY back then
WABC turned 100 in October of 2021… Idk why we celebrated one year late. But whatever!!! WABC, Greatest station in the nation!!!
Listened to Cousin Bruce as a kid, the prototypical "wild man of the radio". Good times.
GOOD MEMORIES WABC COUSIN BRUCIE DAN INGRAM
congratulations wabc77 I always listen to it on Saturdays like yesterday
When Ryan KRISTAFER mentioned his dad...he could only be talking about Jerry Kristafer, who has worked in CT radio for 40+ years, mainly at WDRC in Hartford. He's still in radio, doing mornings on WJMJ-FM, a station operated by the Archdiocese of Hartford. And Ryan used to work at WTNH Ch. 8 New Haven. By the way Ryan just about nailed the WABC call letters. His dad Jerry has taught him well.
WABC AM 77 New York.
I thought about naming my next kitty cat Kitty Katsimatidis but only if it's a girl cat
WJZ radio was originally licensed to Westinghouse in Newark in May, 1921. It got license #2 (KDKA Pittsburgh was #1). WJZ was the original flagship of NBC's Blue Network in 1926, and ABC when NBC divested the Blue in 1945. Fun fact: when ABC started, there already was a WABC, on 880. CBS owned the old Atlantic Broadcasting Company, thus the call letters, and Bill Paley was suddenly quite unhappy about running CBS programs on WABC. Through deals over several years between the networks, the FCC and a small Blue/ABC affiliate in Springfield, IL (WCBS), all the call letters were sorted out. CBS got WJZ, promptly transferred the calls to Westinghouse in Baltimore, got WCBS from Illinois, put them on 880 and sent the WABC calls to 770. Confused? Good.
