  • Kannapolis, NC is an awesome small town in NC. Today, we tour the historic Gem Theater and walk through Kannapolis. This small town even has an amazing minor league baseball team, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. We love this place because it has so many things to do but still holds that small town charm.

    I've lived in Kannapolis my whole life you wouldn't believe how dead that area downtown was 5 years ago before they built it up. There was never a soul there. They did a great job.

    I know this is a year old, but I lived in Kannapolis way back in 2003-2005 and saw Cannon Mills get demolished , it’s so surreal to see it look so different without the construction gates and destroyed buildings everywhere. I can’t wait to go back and visit one day

      It's crazy seeing the amount of change that's happened there! There's even a huge apartment building going up next to the baseball field now.

    I was born and raised in Kannapolis but have been living in Florida the past 7 years. I love looking up videos when i get really homesick lol. It was only one dollar to see a movie at the Gem for years and years. Not sure how much it is now. Although i love all the changes they have done in the downtown area i still hate the fact that they have practically done away with the history of Cannon mills but i guess time marches on. Great video and thanks !!!!

    This was my first job as a kid. Way back in the mid 90s. I used to hate going back stage for supplies. I could've swore that place was haunted. Very different place after lights out. Awesome video. Thanks. I live way out of state now so I really enjoyed this little visit to my backstory.

      That's awesome! I know it caught on fire in the 40's but I'm unaware of any deaths that happened there. I'm very glad you enjoyed the video. It's comments like this that make all of this worth it!

      It's an awesome little town. That Gem Theater is one of the best things for this area IMO. Thanks about the backpack. We bought it at Disney World a good while ago.

    Being from this area, Mount Pleasant; I have only been to that theater once back in 1996. They were doing $.99 movies. Also, looks as if you got yourself a Cheer-wine. Good choice 👍

      That's exactly what my wife got me. I had no idea that stuff existed until I moved to NC and wow is it good! I miss the days of $.99 movies. Shoot, $.99 anything sounds good at this point lol. Thanks for watching!

    Why didn’t you not go to the Earnhardt plaza?

      I honestly don't know anything about it. Is it part of the Dale trail?

    • @BallParkExplore

      @@8bitvacations it’s on Main Street, a block away from Gem theater, across the cannon ballers. Really cool statue and plaza. Dale Earnhardt has a lot of history in kannapolis really nice of the city to give him a statue. Check it out next time your there

      I definitely will. Thanks for the info!

  • @themeadowlarkminutewithpau8184

    Why they didn’t just call them the cannon balls? 😂

    • @8bitvacations
      @8bitvacations  Před rokem

      Ya know, I really don't know. Maybe they were trying to call them selves "ballers" by doing that.
