DEMOLITION: Inverkip Power Station's chimney brought down with two explosions

Demolition experts have brought down Scotland's tallest free-standing structure in Inverclyde. Inverkip Power Station's chimney used to stand at 236m (778ft) high but was demolished with two explosions. The title of Scotland's tallest free-standing structure now passes to Longannet Power Station chimney in Fife, which is 183m tall (600ft). Report by Melissa Nathoo.

Im from Dunoon and its acrually very weird how its not there anymore

Wow... I remember riding the bus into Dunoon from the NATO fuel depot, and seeing that disappearing into the clouds, no buildings around it... my jaw just dropped! There are plenty of tall chimneys in the western United States but I've never seen another that matched this one for sheer magnitude and presence. I'm glad I got to see it... but I'm sure a lot of local residents are happy to see it go.

We need to train our masons to do this. It would greatly increase our productivity when we rebuild chimneys. Are there special OSHA regulations for this ?

778ft and the tallest freestanding structure in the country and they just blew it up like that. Shame on the people responsible, clearly they have no sense of history once so ever.

You can see the house (one of three at the shore on left) where there was a murder (margaret flemming). A real shocking story. I used to travel past the tower and house every morning to school.
