The majority of succulents growing in nature are not found growing on the beach, but for whatever reason, this pairing works really well.
Some succulent cuttings are much longer lasting than others but they all need something to root into to keep them looking fresh for the long haul. Succulents will hot glue directly onto the driftwood but if you use something coarser to attach to, like moss or sheet coir, they’ll adhere much better & be easier to water.
You may not have a beach nearby you but no frets because driftwood is available online. Or, any kind of interesting wood will do. I often use palm debris (I’m not sure what else to call it!) for creating art with succulents and air plants. It’s free, tough and interesting. Be sure to keep your eyes open when you out for a walk - you’ll be surprised at what Mother Nature presents you with.

thank you for this i last watched it 3 years ago and im here to express my gratitude for introducing me to gardening, ps: your smile is contagious!
This answers so many questions! Thanks for your help with this. I'm going to make and hang one in my family room. Thanks again for your time, knowledge and effort! Happy growing!
No one explains why you can't use superglue. To be quite honest we use it all the time to attach moss and plants to wood in aquariums and fish, shrimp and snails do not die. Acrylic finger nails are attached with superglue to our nails and we do not die. Superglue is even used instead of stitches in surgery. It seems hot glue would damage tissue.
love your videos on succulents! keep posting!
Hi +Christy Delgado - Stay tuned because there are 2 succulent design videos coming your way - 1 on Fri & 1 next Weds. Thanks for watching! Nell

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, my pleasure! +Marilou Almanoche Nell
Thanks for the tips. But don't the succulents get burnt when attaching them with hot glue? And do you mean using a hot glue gun? I see you have a pot of glue you're using. I found a gorgeous piece of wood a few years ago and now I know what I want to do with it. Again, thanks so much for all the tips.
sooooooo coollllll ! awsome plants
Well thank you so much!!! +Bryant Chan Nell
Fabulous informative video💕
Thanks for the great instructions and design ideas. :)
You're welcome Bonnie! Nell
We live in the mountains there is a lot of natural free growing moss on our rocks. Can I use that kind of moss, 1 is light green and the other is like the sheet moss. : D
That was such a great video - thank you so much. It blows my mind that you can use hot glue.
You’re amazing thank you angel :)
Thank you for all your videos. I'm leading so much.
Oh you're welcome +Rip van Winkle Glad to hear it! Nell
If the driftwood is angled at about 60-70 degrees, will the succulents fall off or would I just need to make sure to add more glue and some sort of rapping around it too ensure it won’t fall off.
Do you need to soak driftwood to get the salt out first? (An extra step I'd prefer to skip, but I've heard this mentioned a few times).
Hi can u use this technique to a shaped book case small like in Xmas tree shape
So you directly put hot glue on the bottom of the stem into the moss?
How we water these glued succulents? If we remove the glue or water in moss? I heard moss always hold water so they will not die?
Hello Joy !
Just wonder what is that brown glue you’re using , if you response ,, it’s highly appreciated.
Beautiful.. love it so much 💕
thank you! you are adorable...
What type of glue?
Considering the fact that air plants doesn't have roots and they get their water from the air gluing them so that their strings on the bottom can eventually attach themselves to what ever they are placed on.
As for watering how are you going to soak them if they are glued to something? Air plants love water but not soil so that tip is fruitless because they love water but must dry out in between soaking and putting them in soil is a big no no.
You spray your plant's once a month? I soak mine at least once every other week for several hours, shake off excess water and hang them to dry and making sure that the plants are a little facing down so that the water will not pool in the middle of the plants and cause rot.
Do you have any advice for caring for stapelia?
They're fairly easy as houseplants +Morgan Russell Give them bright light & because they're actually not a cactus, keep evenly moist but not soaking wet. Water them like you would a Christmas Cactus. Nell
I’m sorry what were those brown sheets called
Doesn't the hot glue damage the succulents?
hot glue does not damage the succulent
Question? Can I repot echeverria plant while in bloom?
It's not the best time to do it +kenya G but because succulents are so resilient, you can. Nell
+JoyUsGarden oh ok , Thanks a lot .😊
Sure thing. +kenya G
What glue do you use?
Hi Lorraine - I use a dab or 2 of hot glue (which I let cool a bit before attaching). You can also use E6000 or Tilly Tacker but they take a bit longer to dry. Nell
JoyUsGarden yes I do the same, I was wondering if you used florist glue?
Well there are different glues which are called florist's glue. When I worked for a florist back in the day, hot glue was what we used. Nell
Doesn't the glue kill the plant??
hot glue does not damage the succulent
How do I water succulents when they grow in moss?
Hi Maria - I just spray the moss with water every week or 2, depending on how warm it is. Nell
+JoyUsGarden thank you!
You're welcome! Nell
I was told never to use spanish moss with succulents, orchids, and other similar plants because it will rot. Have you found this to be true with your plants?
Hi - I use Spanish Moss a lot. My large Air Plant has been wrapped in dyed, preserved Spanish Moss for almost 3 years. Now that I've moved to the desert, I mist the moss & the air plant every day or so. It's attached to 1 of my bougainvilleas. The "moss mass" has shrunken a bit but its still there. I have heard that Spanish Moss will rot fairly quickly if placed on or in soil. Nell
Ah ok thanks for clearing that up. I was told to never use it with any plants including air plants by a nursery. Thank you.
You're welcome. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but I've seen it many times. Nell
They say no SM in plants or air plants bc they think most people drown it or over spray so it rots or molds. But if you don’t clump it, dunk it and keep it relatively dryer (spritzing and not dunking) then SM is fine for plants. It doesn’t like heavy moisture. It’s mostly used for fake flower arrangements but air plants are fine just don’t dunk your wood
hi.i really like to make mini gardens. But in Sri Lanka its too hard to find succulent plants or seeds. i need some plants or seeds. please help me.
..soak wood in cow manure months before planting,.. dry,..brush w wirebrush,..rinse n plant.-NEVER USE GLUE!
Do you treat drift wood
I don't but you should soak it over night to remove any bugs. Nell
Did you finish the wood with sealers or they’re natural?
Kinda feel sorry for the succulents being hot glued to wood
Don't see how the Succulent will keep growing. Like I feel like it would just die without any dirt as well. I didn't think people used glue for this
glue is not very ecological, and not healthy for your plants, so better attach them with natural string
That's an option too. Nell
We have a non toxic biodegradable adhesive you will like.
Glue on a plant??? pass on this video
hot glue does not damage the succulent
Hot glue on a plant? Cruel!
