Bucky Pizzarelli is among happiest guitar players to ever live, second to Wes Montgomery. I saw him play at that church in Columbia University... he was playing with Warren Vache and Howard Alden. Went up to him after the show and showed him my gemstone pick (which I nixed for a BlueChip--I love picks!). He tried it out and got all excited. He is one of those musicians that makes a connection with the audience before he even plucks a note outta his guitar.
Hi Brian great video as always! Bucky Pizzarelli is an icon and you were so blessed to have spent time with the man and get lessons to boot! If you do not mind my asking, for a jazz box acoustic guitars like the one you have here, aside from using round wounds to get more sound/punch, do you also set the action a bit higher for better louder sound ?
Thanks for the kind words My action even on this guitar is quite low I use heavy strings and a pick that produces a nice sound. It’s only so loud and if you try to overplay it, it becomes ugly Hope this helps
@@lucylola138 thank you for the quick reply Brian! I just received yesterday a 2017 D'Angelico Excel-1a (accoustic with piezo option) they patterned it after a 1947 model and discontinued it and was lucky to see it on Reverb. It is so unique that I could not even find reviews on youtube. There are alot of Excel-1 reviews but not the Excel-1a (acoustic). I do have an extra set of Thomastik 12guage roundwounds that I will try though 13 may be better. I'll start with 12s. Not sure how high the action will when it arrives but the gentleman who sold it did inform me he has it quite high as he used it for Gypsy Jazz music which explains the loudness you mentioned as them cats like it quite loud and very metalic which is the allure of the style. I like my action low.. I'll make sure to post a review of this guitar this weekend. You do not by any chance have lessons on line do you? Cheers!
Thank you for sharing experience 😺
Thank you! I wish I could have learned from this legend! I have studies soms of his books though. Great books. Life changing books.
Many thanks for that video ❤
Very nice! Informative.
