    I hate repair jobs where you have to destroy things to do the work - it's a scary "well, no going back..." feeling. But great fix

      My daily driver first car was an 02 9-3 hatch, I really hated those old gen 9-3 headlights. Replaced them with a morimoto universal kit, I had to open the headlights and remove material to fit the universal parts. The difference was AMAZING though, and up until I had to let the car go a few years ago they were working perfectly still. I was really sweating at the time though, I even considered buying some headlight replacements from ebay and using those vs messing with my only pair in case something went wrong lol.
      I got to pick the color of the beams, I went with 4000k which is very white but not that horrible blue so many people liked to do back in the day, and because it was in a projector housing the light coming out of the headlights while visible to oncoming traffic gave less glare, and they threw a couple hundred feet further down the road than stock. One of my favorite projects just based off how much easier it was to see.

    New owner of a last year 900 Turbo, so loving your channel. Question, I did try to use the black circular retaining clip and broke one (the other, I figured out the led bulb unit that I purchased, comes apart and you can put it back together with the retainer clip sandwiched in it, so no prob). I know you aren't using the retainer but my LED has some looseness. Do you know where I can source that circular black retaining ring?

    3D printing is AMAZING, but I'm always hesitant when it comes to replacing car parts with 3d printed. Like you said that one white clip broke when installing it, I think likely 3d printed parts won't last as long as OEM. Sometimes there's no choice, like for this situation here...
    I'm really looking forward to fiberglass reinforced prints, I find that the fiberglass reinforced plastic bits of cars hold up way longer than abs or whatever other types of plastics.

    LEDs are cool, but I really desperately wish they'd offer them in 2700K, maybe 4000k. 5500K is just too blue, and 6500 is unbearable. I did a xenon retrofit on my OG 9-3 with 4000k, that was about as "white" as I ever wanted lights to be. Anymore I just stick with the bulbs because I find the nice glow of halogen is easy on my eyes... also color reproduction is amazing with halogen. Xenon and LED are often like 65% which means things look really muted and washed out, it can make a difference when spotting things on the side of the road.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  Před 10 měsíci

      I dunno - the halogens were unbearable. I couldn’t see anything at night if it was more than 20ft away. It was almost dangerous. Check the end of the video where I show how the light is distributed. I think it’s perfect imo!

    • @jetjazz05
      @jetjazz05 Před 10 měsíci

      @@AutoAutopsy I totally agree, that's why I had to upgrade mine with the projector retrofit, I just wish they made the color less blue. Blue actually refracts a lot, it's the hardest light wave for the human eye to pick up on... I guess it's an acceptable tradeoff to be able to see more than 100 feet in front of the car lol.
      For as amazing as Saab was and all their quality and safety I feel like their headlights really suffered. The 9-5s had ok headlights with the two seperate bulbs for low and high, I really wish they'd done that with 900s and 9-3s.

    Your headlamps are DOT US Spec lamps.
    They suck. What you did, though, is irresponsible, and dangerous.
    Why?
    Because DOT spec lamps have very poor beam control unlike the EU spec lamps.
    EU spec lamps have a different lens (which are glass), and sometimes even have a different reflector which control the beam much, much better. They do not blind on-coming cars, and provide far superior side light beam which illuminates road signs on the right (left in RHD cars).
    Now, by putting LED bulbs in the DOT lamps the glare will become much worse for the on coming traffic, and many people will think you are driving with your high beams on.
    That is irresponsible, and dangerous.
    If you were in Europe, the cops would pull you over in no time, and remove your license plate, until you remove the LED's.
    Your only way to get more light out there is to replace the US spec lamps with EU spec types, and use the 55w quartz halogen or quartz iodine bulbs.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  Před 10 měsíci

      Lol come on…really? Calling what I did “irresponsible and dangerous” is overboard. 🤦🏻‍♂️ These lights, as stated in the video, are aimed properly and will not be blinding traffic. I drove the car on a cruise with a few friends over the weekend and asked that they confirm that from a different vehicle’s POV.
      I guess it’s a good thing I don’t live in the EU. Cops here don’t do that trash! 🇺🇸🤣
