$5.00 on a single item 😢. Went to a Bargain Centre based in Chirnside Park VIC as my son wanted to see if he could get himself a toy with his birthday money.
Saw toothpaste being sold for $2.00. Vs. Woolworth half price toothpaste (exactly the same brand) at $5. Originally sold for $10.
Each individual item like salt. Spices. Instant coffee satchels at the bargain store were substantially cheaper vs the major retailer supermarkets. In mid high costs of groceries and toiletries definitely worth shopping around for alternatives if you can.

I lived in the UK for a while and I was shocked at the amount of supermarkets in the UK; Aldi, Lidl (like Aldi), Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, M&S, Waitrose, Iceland and it’s so cheap! Even the Costco in the UK is incredible. The one we have in Australia is a huge disappointment on the prices vs supermarket price and the variety. My husband thinks food is cheaper in the UK also due to the supply chain, they get a lot of stuff from Europe.

I agree with you about the cost of food in the UK. I do food checks and comparisons regularly, and I am amazed at the difference in pet food prices. The cost of feeding a pet here is almost double to the UK's price. What annoys me is that so many Aussies complain about how expensive it is over there. I guess London is more expensive, but if you had to eat out at restaurants here every day it would be the same or worse.

We have Aldi and Spud Shed in Perth WA. Spud shed is great , fresh fruit and veg and meat. And all cheaper than the big 2 . I go there for most shopping , then Aldi for bits . I save a lot of money . FYI Spud Shed have the same meat suppliers as Cosco. But is still cheaper .

There are also many IGAs (Independent Grocers of Australia) that are local community minded and cheaper than Coles and Woolworths. Here is south-east Melbourne, we often have a choice of 4 stores to shop at. Then there is Costco!
