A major new study has shown just how much more expensive Australia's two major supermarkets are than their counterparts. So, is it time we all swapped where we shop? #Coles #Woolworths #Aldi
$5.00 on a single item 😢. Went to a Bargain Centre based in Chirnside Park VIC as my son wanted to see if he could get himself a toy with his birthday money. Saw toothpaste being sold for $2.00. Vs. Woolworth half price toothpaste (exactly the same brand) at $5. Originally sold for $10. Each individual item like salt. Spices. Instant coffee satchels at the bargain store were substantially cheaper vs the major retailer supermarkets. In mid high costs of groceries and toiletries definitely worth shopping around for alternatives if you can.
*My dog's treats have gone up from $4 a pack to $8 in the past 2 years. I went to buy a toilet smelly the other day and it was $7.50.. we are getting ripped off. something needs to be done*
I lived in the UK for a while and I was shocked at the amount of supermarkets in the UK; Aldi, Lidl (like Aldi), Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, M&S, Waitrose, Iceland and it’s so cheap! Even the Costco in the UK is incredible. The one we have in Australia is a huge disappointment on the prices vs supermarket price and the variety. My husband thinks food is cheaper in the UK also due to the supply chain, they get a lot of stuff from Europe.
I agree with you about the cost of food in the UK. I do food checks and comparisons regularly, and I am amazed at the difference in pet food prices. The cost of feeding a pet here is almost double to the UK's price. What annoys me is that so many Aussies complain about how expensive it is over there. I guess London is more expensive, but if you had to eat out at restaurants here every day it would be the same or worse.
We have Aldi and Spud Shed in Perth WA. Spud shed is great , fresh fruit and veg and meat. And all cheaper than the big 2 . I go there for most shopping , then Aldi for bits . I save a lot of money . FYI Spud Shed have the same meat suppliers as Cosco. But is still cheaper .
There are also many IGAs (Independent Grocers of Australia) that are local community minded and cheaper than Coles and Woolworths. Here is south-east Melbourne, we often have a choice of 4 stores to shop at. Then there is Costco!
We need more supermarket competition in Australia. Plain and simple! I have shopped in Europe and America and it blows my mind at the options and prices.
@sensaznal no idea why we got together and decided we don't need to grow our own food anymore and we would specialize in different fields, only for the supermarkets to dominate and rip everyone off FOR FOOD, THE THING WE NEED TO SURVIVE.
And then we get to pay gst on our groceries and excises on fuel.. Great country guys, all our minerals go off shore and we get to wear inflation from RBA printing.
My nearest Aldi (regional ountry town) is useless. Badly stocked, cant buy the same product two weeks in a row, non-existent stock of advertised specials, the whole place staffed by two people... Awful place

Aldi checkouts are fast and efficient, I can’t stand the Cole’s and Woolies experience of a slow checkout person fumbling around packing items one at a time as the scan.
The day one I stepped in Australia i was looking for local green grocery which was very less and most of the times it only Woolworths and Cole’s .. I was under assumption that people don’t complaint ..essentials shouldn’t be private control..
Same basket at Coles or WW is around $46 if you select home brand products. Can someone please make Choice provide transparency on the products in their basket - did they really compare apples to oranges like the Coles response suggested?
Trust me, when Aldi get to 33% market share along with Woolworths's and Costco, all their price will be more or less the same. Aldi are only cheaper as they are trying to grow market share!
Aldi would be ok if you could get what you need everytime. This week i went for toilet spray and another regular bathroom item, both were not available. Other items that you might like (not even referring to specials) come and go, never to be seen again. Also, not everything is cheap. YOU MUST KNOW YOUR PRICES
All the products i buy are just about double the price. Woolies prices went up 4 times last year its disgusting not to mention everything has shrunk in size, yet these supermarkets are making billions of dollars profit.
Coles 120 grams tin Graxox $5.00 discusting i do most of my shopping at Aldi. But shopping at Coles the price gauge people & Wokeworths is unavoidable.
if you eat only non-prepared food eg cook and prep yourself food is cheaper than the jumk that fills most shopping trolleys - however a lot of poor people cant afford real good food as every adult needs 2-3 kg mince beef at $16.00 kg per week plus all of the other - if can live on good food LESS THAN $150 per adult you are making the figures up
They are selling more and more non Australian made in the stores anyway. I picked up a box of cherries imported from the US yesterday from Cole’s with discount price. And I checked the price with my cousin living in California. The discounted price in Cole’s here is about 2X of that in California.
Sorry we do not pick woolworths or coles because of their sales! Its because they have given regional areas no choice but to shop with the two biggest pathetic supermarkets in the nation. They don’t deserve any loyalty! They have been called out to be more untrustworthy than a used car dealer.
$12.50 for walnuts at Safeway, $7.50 at Aldi

Rent is expensive in London.

This is just an advertisement for Choice.
We need other international supermarkets like lidl carrefour metro Walmart there just isn’t enough competition here
Its not gubment's fault guys, its those dastardly supermarkets.
Donations and lobbying from coles and woolworths might not help
We need more supermarket competition in Australia. Plain and simple!
I have shopped in Europe and America and it blows my mind at the options and prices.
Banks and food chains are…killing it! Profits profits profits up up up
They all could drop their price by 50% and still make billion dollar profit.
@sensaznal no idea why we got together and decided we don't need to grow our own food anymore and we would specialize in different fields, only for the supermarkets to dominate and rip everyone off FOR FOOD, THE THING WE NEED TO SURVIVE.
And fuel companies.
@@Southernerz when you look into who owns all these companies, you'll find blackrock and vanguard
And people keep falling for it and paying it like zombies
And then we get to pay gst on our groceries and excises on fuel..
Great country guys, all our minerals go off shore and we get to wear inflation from RBA printing.
and woolies and Coles want us to scan our own groceries for free or without a discount! I refuse to use self-service checkouts
@MrBibi86 The only time to use self service check-outs is to scan expensive items as cheaper items. It's how customers are fighting back 😂
@@MrBibi86 careful what you ask for because they will start charging more for the using checkouts for the illusion of cheaper self aerve
@@MrBibi86 Me too, I refuse to use them for the fact they take away jobs from people.
remember in 2018 when greta claimed humanity would be wiped out in 5 years if we dont stop using fossil fuels?
I wouldn't make ends meet without Aldi.
Thank you Aldi.
Last year I use to buy olive oil 3.4ltr $34 Now at Coles it’s $60
Aldi needs an express lane. If it was easier to get out I would shop there more.
Hey there is one Malaysian woman video state that she paid 50 AUD for single person groceries for almost two weeks
Did we teally need a report on this?
My nearest Aldi (regional ountry town) is useless. Badly stocked, cant buy the same product two weeks in a row, non-existent stock of advertised specials, the whole place staffed by two people... Awful place
I'd be less concerned about the fact that Aldi is cheaper than the fact that WW and Coles are the same. I assume Australia has cartel laws...
Aldi isn't that cheap!! At least in Brisbane!! We need Lidl here as well!!
Woolworths and Coles prices are ridiculous and Aldi just undercuts the duopoly prices by a little. So yes Aldi isn't cheap.
I’m going to start shopping at Aldi 😂
Aldi is excellent 😊 but don't forget Drakes & IGA Our Woolworths is hugely more expensive than the others
Some executive at Aldi will now demand the 25% be reduced to 10%. Thanks government for doing our research.😮😮😮😮😮😮

Price gouging, it’s the Australian way
Aldi checkouts are fast and efficient, I can’t stand the Cole’s and Woolies experience of a slow checkout person fumbling around packing items one at a time as the scan.
The day one I stepped in Australia i was looking for local green grocery which was very less and most of the times it only Woolworths and Cole’s .. I was under assumption that people don’t complaint ..essentials shouldn’t be private control..
Come to Dubai. I just paid $120 for a 3.9kg piece of Australia beef. And don’t even get me started on the cost of basic utilities to live.
Once you include selective 1/2 price purchases and 10% discounts, Aldi costs pretty much the same.
Australian supermarkets is one thing,
Australian insurance is another thing…totally unhinged.
Aldi price gauge as well.. all they do is make alot of their items 5 to 10cents cheaper then coles.. hardly a saving..
Same basket at Coles or WW is around $46 if you select home brand products.
Can someone please make Choice provide transparency on the products in their basket - did they really compare apples to oranges like the Coles response suggested?
Hilarious. You guys pay less for our milk and cheese than we do here in NZ.
Prices vary by suburb also.
You have to compare home brand or essentials to aldi branded products.
It just sucks that Aldi have basically no Organic food... A few items here and there, but not enough to actually do a full shop :(
What about IGA and FOODLAND in SA ?
Trust me, when Aldi get to 33% market share along with Woolworths's and Costco, all their price will be more or less the same. Aldi are only cheaper as they are trying to grow market share!
I went to myy local woolies the other day I shope between the Big 3 Aldo Coles and Woolies Anway I'm digressing 6 bucks for a bag of chips
Aldi would be ok if you could get what you need everytime. This week i went for toilet spray and another regular bathroom item, both were not available. Other items that you might like (not even referring to specials) come and go, never to be seen again.

Fair dinkum unbelievable 😂😂❤😂😂❤😂😂❤😂😂😂😂
Aldi 🥰

Their wont be any au in future good luck
Lobsters are getting more expensive with export to China🙄
IGA came in second.
Still cheaper than New Zealand Woolworths smh.
What about IGA
Millionaires don't check prices
you'll likely find there isnt any gouging buy the big 2 supermarkets

I'm coeliac and Aldi just doesn't have what I need. What few things I can eat there taste awful. Sorry Aldi, I tried

Comparison is not exact Aldi not comparing with Cole and woollies generic brands. Not all Aldi food is that great.
Australian retail is one huge scam. Australian made is a rort.
