Hello!
no this idea is not plain its plane
So when will we get a video about bricks?
Even more funny is the Volkswagen parking lot near by. 😅

3:35 - There's a 3rd purpose, which is being a backup in case either an existing aircraft unexpectedly needs to be taken out of service or when there's a government order to ground an entire series of aircraft (e.g the 737 Max)
Or Dreamliner 787 when a few years ago these were grounded due to suspected cracks...or before that due to battery fires
Not gonna lie...if I could afford one of BA’s 74’s or one of FDX’s DC-10s I would own one.
why would you own the dc10. that plane will kill you
To fly? One of my uncles always wanted to bury a plane somewhere on his land to use as a bunker in case of some apocalyptic happening. I, meanwhile, would love to turn one, or two, into a house.

When my dad first started at FedEx, he was shocked that they started all 3 engines (727) at the ramp right away instead of waiting until taxiing. They’ve since changed that policy, though, and retired the 727
And your dad probably
I remember walking up and down the rear stairs of those 727. I do not know of any modern planes you could do that in?

At the end of time far off into the far off future, with the memory of a trillion trillion souls that came before me, I stood at the final time amid the endless sky; I was the last being. The monster of the apocalypse looked down at me, oh so small, oh so pitiful lonely on a small small rock. The monster of insanity, of lust for destruction, the serpent of genesis of the long ago age of our primordial home 'earth' said in a scream:

Maybe he's into doing drugs in San Berdoo and wanders into the Mojave at night
3:33 This is hilarious, because I have flown United. I hear that their international flights are actually pretty nice, but domestic ones are horrendous.
Also, they replaced the in-flight honey roasted peanuts with mustard-flavored pretzel nibs? Because people with allergies will eat them anyway if they're hungry enough even though they could die? Guess what, people can be allergic to mustard, too.
OtakuUnitedStudio their international flights are average at best, somewhere in between virgin and their domestic ones. having flown about 40 hours of united international flights in economy, i can say its good enough. also i cant believe they changed the peanuts
mustard pretzels do sound good though
@@ianma4150 But I can't eat them!

You probably know Victorville as the scenery of EVERY Hollywood movie with any desert scenes... The Hills Have Eyes, From Dusk Til Dawn, The Hitcher, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Breakdown, etc. And that's without going into all the old Westerns... Victorville was also the location of the Roy Rogers Museum for decades until Roy and Dale's deaths.
I had the honor of meeting Roy a few time a few years before he passed on. Truly a great man.
3:50 The condition of the first plane scares me
Hey, I think i passed through there once! I remember seeing a bunch of planes off the side of the highway like maybe 250 meters when driving through the desert in California.
Edit: I just checked on the map. I was correct.
After all these plane videos, I have just one question.
Who do you fly with?
4:10 Live in Memphis, I can tell you sand is popping up out of nowhere.

Oh wait.
One thing this video fails to mention is that Victorville was also chosen due to its (somewhat) close proximity to LAX. I spent two decades working in the airline industry and can confirm that the engineers and maintenance guys at my airline would often drive up from L.A. to Victorville to get parts off one of these grounded aircraft to use on a currently operating plane.

I’ve actually been and had a tour of the area that the airplanes are stored in, the company also gets paid to service and maintain the planes for the airlines that use them, it really was a cool tour to be able to go on, last time I was there there were a bunch of Fedex and UPS planes there

Always been fascinated by airplane graveyard photos. Would love to explore and mess about in one ! 🤯
There is also one across the Colorado River in Pinal County Arizona. The Pinal County Airpark (Yes, that's its name) houses a lot of older retired planes as well. It's also the home of an Apache helicopter base.
as someone who grew up in Victorville and loves your videos, I appreciate the shoutout to home!!!! Haha
They don't go there to die, they go there to await being sold.
I used to live at this boneyard when it was still George Air Force Base and when there were still good motorcycle trails out behind the golf course. Now my old house is a bunk house for a prison that was built across the street.
The Inked Well crazy. I still live in Victorville. I’m leaving as soon as possible 😂
Hey high desert crew haha
3:30 Having spent 20 years in aviation, I can tell you that is probably the most cold-blooded savagery I've ever heard. o.O
First off Victorville is not a nice place to live or visit. It is essentially the shaded area/elephant graveyard that Zimba’s dad told him not to visit.
Second the airplane graveyard in victimville is nothing compared to the one in Tucson, AZ. Its like comparing the pets section in a Wal-Mart to the San Diego Zoo.

Many of the aircraft are leased through companies such GE Leasing and after they come off lease they are sent to storage, such as the area you mentioned until they are either sent out on another lease, sold to carrier - perhaps converted for freight or dismantled.
I always drove past the Airplane Bine Yard in Victorville since the 80s. I loved seeing them in a far distance in the High Desert.

someone should make a whole video on the economics of cargo airlines. I bet wendover would be a great channel to do it
the airport is also called SCLA southern california logistics airport. boeing has an engine testing site along with custom aircraft modification site at the airport. there is also a airframe scholl there where students learn how to work on these aircraft. this is also where boeing is storing some of the defective 737's and fixing them as well. Many airlines are storing aircraft there during covid. all sorts of really cool aircraft right now including qantas A-380's. i go past there every other day and always see something new. boeing has an engine test platform parked there. it's a 747 with upto 3 different types of engines attached to it.
5:28
Ahem, we at Nigerian Airlines would like to buy all of your jets.
I would love to go there someday! I saw some pics on Sam Chuis Instagram, the interior was quite untouched since the retirement
There is a site in Upington, South Africa too. Used to see old MD80's being scrapped there. Also, there used to be 4 or 5 Boeing 727's there as well. I am pretty sure they are still there, but I haven't really focused on that when I've been there recently.
I travel to Victorville all the time! I go traveling on the I-15 going from Vegas to California and back (although it's more like passing by, but still)!

The title says: "The Airport Where Planes go to Die". However, according to the video, it's actually the airport where they go to wait for a chance at a second life, unlike a scrapyard where they would truly go to die.

i'm pretty sure this place was talked about in the unwind series - they lived there for a short while! i don't know if it's this exact one, i believe it was in arizona.
There's a similar facility just off Rt 10 in Arizona between Phoenix and Tucson in Marana, AZ called the Pinal Airpark.
Or, hear me out. They could just replace the engines with more fuel efficient ones and keep it flying?
Yeah, i can't believe they didn't think of that, duh
You're making it sound easy when it's not. Most of the time you can't just drop in new engines with significantly higher fuel efficiency, if at all.
Actually getting new engines to work on an older airframe, and then getting that certified for commercial use would be a nightmare, and likely doesn't make commercial sense over buying new planes.
"replace the engines with more fuel efficient ones and keep it flying"
didn't Boeing already try that?

Whenever I hear ‘Mojave’ I feel like going out on a patrol and wishing for a specific season.
That part that was missed in this video is that it isn't just about fuel. The plans at VCV may be perfectly good, but they are generally retired right before their next major inspection ("D-check"). This is very expensive ($1m+ per plane) and basically involves tearing apart the entire plane, examining every part, and re-building it. This is required by law to happen every so many hours of flight and/or take-off/landing cycles. With older planes, it often makes sense to retire them, rather than pay for another D-check. There are also life-limited parts that need to be replaced at this point, and that can be avoided by replacing the entire plane, instead.

The old George AFB. GE still uses this facility as a test bed for testing their new aircraft engines, and planes fly here for maintenance from international carriers.

Its called Flyable Storage, there are a lot of airplanes that are in Flyable Storage while others are taken apart for parts to keep other airplanes flying. One of the problems a company I worked for had the last two Volpar Beech 18's on the registry and they were taking parts off of one to keep the other one flying and it was a losing battle.
