Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke were wonderful in this. One of the best versions I've seen.
I hate to see this end; I could watch it over and over. Written and acted so beautifully. Zelah Clarke captured the right balance of Victorian propriety and fierce independence. And Timothy Dalton was the perfect Rochester, sexy and brooding. Their chemistry together was fantastic.
This adaptation was sublime in every way. Timothy and Selah, her name in Hebrew means to rest in The Book of Psams, a musical term were beyond compare.🌸🌹🌼🌺🌻🌷

I love how they draw each other out with strong acclimation that does not allow the other to stay complacent in jocularity or accusation. It’s beautiful.
The best version of the book. Very close to the original. Magnificent play of Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clark. Cannot be better. I wish film directors stopped making attempts of shooting new films based on the book. All of them are ended in their future disillusionment, because none from the actors can act as Dalton and Clark did.

Agradeço a quem trouxe para o youtube essa versão do romance mais lindo que já li. A melhor de tantas versões que já vi no cinema e na tv. Li Jane Eyre quando eu era uma adolescente e lá se vão muitas décadas! Essa é a versão mais fiel ao livro, tanto nos diálogos quanto no tipo físico dos personagens e a interpretação foi perfeita. grata por esses momentos de enlevo.

Wonderful rendition of this excellent story! I've seen many versions but this is truly the best, bar none! Since I love period pieces, don't know how I missed this in '83.
I have to agree. Reluctantly, I watched this thinking it wouldn't come close to Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine 1943--how very wrong I was! This is the most captivating and moving version I've seen, and I think I've seen them all. Dalton as Rochester is passionate, explosive and unforgettable. I admit I am taken in by this version.

Jane Eyre es uno de mis libros favoritos, lo he leido tantas veces... Vi las peliculas del 1996 y 2011, pero ninguna me llego al corazon. Creo que esta es la adaptación mas cercana y definitivamente mas hermosa que he visto. Hay momentos en los que puedo repetir los dialogos del libro... Y encontre al verdadero Mr. Rochester. Jamas pense que podría llegar a decir esto. Timothy Dalton esta increible... la forma en que actua... en que habla... el es Mr. Rochester

Thank you De epoca for posting this TV series. I was 15 in 1983 and I hadn't read the novel at that time. I caught episodes 5 to 11 on the original TV broadcast and it's still one of my favourite book adaptions. It gives the story and characters enough time to 'breath' and I do like Zelah Clarke's performance, which is both self-possessed and sympathetic. I don't know how old she was (she looks and acts a bit more mature than an 18 year old). She captures both the inner natural strength, intelligence and integrity of Jane and also the relative timidity of someone who has been pushed down all her young life. Dalton is terrific as Rochester and he and Clarke have a natural chemistry and empathy in their scenes together. Both characters are basically outsiders. Rochester is alienated (even from himself in many ways) and I think that's part of why I relate to the novel and this TV series.
Thank you for your comment. This is one of my favorite adaptations too. Zelah Clarke was 29 years old in 1983. As she looked so tiny next to Dalton, she was perfect for this character. Dalton is terrific, I agree.

Es un placer haber visto esta serie. Soy fanática del libro y he visto varias adaptaciones a la pantalla del mismo, pero esta versión es la que me ha fascinado porque se apega más a la narración de la novela original. He de decir que me disgustó un poco la exageración a la fealdad que se hace a los personajes principales en el libro, es decir a Jane y Rochester, pero pienso que no hay de cierto tal cosa, pues Rochester menciona que cuando conoce a Jane por primera vez le pareció ver una hada, un ser casi celestial, aunque a Jane le dice que posiblemente era una hechicera porque hace que su caballo lo tire; entonces me imagino que Jane debe haberse visto muy bella en ese momento para que él la viera de ese modo y prácticamente también se enamorara de ella a primera vista. Igualmente en el libro la misma Jane describe a Rochester al principio cuando lo conoce como un hombre vigoroso, de espalda ancha, buen cuerpo, que su corte de cabello le hacían ver una cabeza cuadrada y su rostro con facciones toscas, cejas gruesas y que le parecía fea su boca al igual que su barbilla con aquel marcado hoyo en medio, pero reconoce que tenía unos ojos bellos. Aquí en esta serie se omite una escena del tiempo en que Jane se va a visitar a su Tía que esta muriendo y Jane se encuentra pintando un retrato de Rochester y en eso se le acerca una de sus primas y le pregunta que quién es ese hombre que dibuja porque esta muy feo. Aquí también pienso que en realidad Mr. Rochester debió haber tenido su atractivo para que Jane siendo una jovencita de 18 años quedara impactada con él prácticamente también cuando lo conoce y rápidamente después enamorarse perdidamente, aunque Rochester ya se acercara a los 40 años. Me fascinó la actuación de Timothy Dalton, pues encaja perfectamente en el papel de Mr, Rochester, es tal como me lo imaginé cuando leí el libro, se puede decir que no es un hombre lo suficiente guapo, pero si decir que es muy atractivo y con una personalidad que podría encantar a cualquier mujer.
RMar yo creo que los cánones de belleza de esa época eran otros. A lo mejor a Rochester y a Jane si los consideraríamos guapos en nuestro tiempo. Coincido contigo en que Rochester debiò haber visto belleza en Jane para que lo haya impactado tanto cuando la vió por primera vez. Los hombres se enamoran de lo físico primero. Pero aparte de esto, él vió en ella bondad, ternura, honestidad, dulzura, cosas que no había encontrado en otras, a pesar de haberse pasado la vida buscándolas. Por eso es que la ama desde casi el comienzo, por que sabe que es ella a quien había estado buscando toda la vida. Jane por su parte, inexperta en el tema del amor, se siente deslumbrada por la personalidad de Rochester y por la forma especial con que es tratada; se enamora de él en sus tantas pláticas por que ambos hablan con el alma . Esta miniserie es la más completa y fiel al libro. Me gusta mucho tambien la version de 1997. Ambas son mis favoritas.
Debemos recordar que son feos o poco atractivos en comparación al estándar de belleza victoriano: no son los bellos protagonistas de una novela romántica. A mí, al principio también me molestó porque Jane estaba muy segura que lo era y era muy repetitiva con el tema pero, a medida que pasaba la novela me gustó mucho. Para mí, el hecho de que no sean extraordinariamente bellos sino normales, resalta sus personalidades y, les confiere más humanidad y realismo.
@@anag7307 La versión del 73, aunque esa Jane no es tan adecuada, también es espectacular, a pesar de las limitaciones en la producción artística de la época. Ambas versiones de ls BBC, del 73 y del 83, son las mejores y las más fieles al libro inmortal de Charlotte Brontë.

No había visto esta versión, y rápidamente se ha convertido en mi favorita. Es una adaptación excelente, los actores encajan perfectamente con la imagen mental que se tiene de los personajes habiendo leído el libro, y sin duda las actuaciones son muy buenas. Gracias por compartirla con todos!!!

Сколько бы не снимали после них - все не то. Молодец режиссер, что снял в роли Рочестера именно Тимоти - Он действительно вне конкуренции, а Зела создала с ним прекрасный союз. Далтон после этой роли обожаем женщинами всего мира, а сам фильм просто непревзойденный!
Я стала смотреть и другие фильмы с Далтоном и открыла его, как талантливого и яркого актера. Жаль только, что Голливуд его недооценил и жаль, что все мы стареем.

He visto tres versiones, y yo pensaba que Fassbender superaba a Welles, pero Dalton les supera a ambos
Nunca leí el libro, aunque he visto casi todas sus versiones para la pantalla. Esta, en particular, es la que me dio una mejor comprensión de la trama. La historia que se cuenta en "Jane Eyre" es bastante sencilla, pero los sentimientos que mueven los hilos son tan intensos que la vuelven un relato atemporal. La pasión de la pareja es una pasión moderna, más allá de las normas sociales que la encorsetaban entonces. ¡Qué fuerza creativa la de Charlotte Brontë! Es una historia de amor que me robó el corazón, cautivo desde ya de toda futura adaptación cinematográfica del libro.

I can watch this over and over. I love Timothy Daltons Mr Rochester. His voice and mannerisms are spot on. He is sexy and brooding and shows how vulnerable he is when she comes back.
