Kimbra just sounds better live than on recorded and edited tracks. Her voice is too powerful to try and process on a machine. They should keep her live versions on her albums.
I've seen Kimbra live now, and you're 100% right. I also feel like there's a tendency to overproduce her recorded and edited tracks; live you can really hear how absurdly powerful her voice is.

I’m not a huge fan of this version of the song. Part of the charm of this song is the positive energy that she brings, but she almost seems tired here. Literally the only flaw I can find in her entire catalogue though,
To me. Its simply that its a live studio take. Not a full video production. Therefore its context and circumstance. Ps, she is very expressive with her hands.
Real drums with an off set beat and real bass would have made this song better - still has a cheapness to it with the electronica crap. And her trademark layered sampling vocal stuff is gone :(
I have to disagree with you. I loved her vocal choices. She reminds me of Layla Hathaway, Donny Hathaway's daughter, with how technical she sings. Layla does the same thing when performing live as far as her vocal choices. Kimbra is a jazz singer like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughn. I am just thankful that this generation still has some real singers with phenomenal vocal range and styling like Kimbra, Sia, Leela James, and Janelle Monae.

Layla and Kimbra are both so technical in their jazz scatting. 2 of the best vocalists of our generation. I luv them both. And I'm glad Kimbra hit those high notes, she blessed me with her gift.
