    It was done colonizing as soon as you saw the first primordial fruit. You could shorten your time by probably about a week so as not to waste the organisms energy on small fruits that later abort when the successor fruit is chosen. I also find lions mane fruits early on the side facing the light. So darkness during spawn run is definitely beneficial to reduce premature fruiting with lions mane especially... much love nice educational content!

    Brother, I have greatly enjoyed the various evolution of your techniques, monotub designs and substrate experiments - it is fascinating to see how an engineer's brain approaches the challenges of Mycology - dont ever change!
    Watching you has helped me to further refine & improve my techniques - thank you.
    May I respectfully suggest some future ventures which may be of some assistance in your journey? :
    1. Blue light 450nm specifically to induce more fruiting.
    2. All in one "set it & forget it" monotub systems. So less maintenance.
    3. High voltage transmission through substrate to induce bigger harvests.
    Each of those has scientific merit with research from respected scientific journals, please do google for further info.
    I myself am currently experimenting with 1 & 2. But then...im no engineer ;) .... I think it would be of benefit to the mycology community to have someone more qualified such as yourself have a shot at these possible avenues & then hopefully share any advancements with us. Peace, mush love friend.

      I forgot to mention... I bought blue (450nm) led strips from AliExpress and made a custom soldered strip which attaches to the top of my clear monotubs. As for AllinOne systems, iv trialled aquarium water pumps ($20 pet store), mini ultrasonic humidifiers ($8 ebay), and used usb CPU brushless fans (due to their noiseless & longevity) for FAE. As for holes, iv trialled polyfill, 3M mp tape & HEPA replacement pads (for vacuum cleaners) cut to size. Also used Dupont Tyvek suits cut into pieces to act as barrier.
      I have no doubt... you will think of better more innovative solutions than mine. Please share when you do x

      Zan! My man, freekin' great ideas! I love your comments, brother; they're always so detailed and you have some awesome ideas!
      I'm eventually going to build a large fruiting chamber, likely with a baker's rack and cover it with plastic, I think it's called the Martha tek. Thanks for the recommendation on the blue light, that's probably what I'll go with for lights in the chamber. I'm kind of running out of space with the monotubs I have going around here, so if I can consolidate everything into one big fruiting chamber that'd be really nice. I'd love to find a way to eliminate my dependance on single-use plastics, and I'm trying to figure out a way to use a monotub to grow things like lion's mane and skip the step of bagging.
      The high-voltage transmission through the substrate is a super interesting idea! I'm definitely going to need to do some studying before I play with electricity though. Do you have any resources that you can recommend I start at for that idea?

    • @OneEarthMushrooms
      @OneEarthMushrooms  Před 4 lety +2

      Does your light hang inside the tub? Or shine in through a clear lid?
      And I now see what you mean by an "all-in-one" monotub system! Yeah, that would be really cool. That's essentially what I was thinking for the Martha tek, it's pretty much a giant monotub with shelving in it, using a source of fresh air and humidity with artificial lighting.
      I'm getting there! Haven't come up with any creative solutions for these things yet, still working on figuring out how to get away from single-use plastics!

      @@OneEarthMushrooms Yes brother, apologies for delay its been a busy weekend at work. The LED strip is composed of x3 blue led in sequence onto an aluminum cladding (to aid heat dissipation)...It runs on 12v and draws about 15w .My monotub top lid is transparent so iv clipped it onto the outside. If I had opaque lid I wud attach it to the inside/underside of the lid, but this would increase ambient temp in the tub so one wud have to run the CPU fan in the monotub more often.
      Im aware of the various large (expensive) Allin1 systems but they draw significant power and I dont feel happy leaving them unattended.
      My aim was to create a "mini Martha" that anyone could DIY onto a monotub with inexpense and low power (theoretically portable / run off battery pack) for those who dont want to grow on an industrial scale. Theoretically it could be made modular, but more importantly I could gift it to someone new to mycology and they could grow their own with little maintenance. Safe for kids too.
      Iv had x3 iterations using various equipment alongside a "control" standard monotub, to compare how yield/harvest is impacted. Its a slow process as each version takes +4 weeks to assess efficacy. Im close.... will send u the completed design for your input when done :)

      A quick google using "voltage mushroom grow" ... will give more articles/ research of using electricity to double/triple yields.
      I will look into this once iv clocked my Allin1.....also need to get a spare car battery for testing lol ... peace, mush love brother x

      @@OneEarthMushrooms I've had trouble growing oysters and others when I was using a spray bottle the pins kept aborting, got the lions mane spawn arriving this week. May I recommend a floating mini usb one that looks like a puck, as you can put it into any container or cup and power it with a phone charger, also if you add a little bit of hydrogen peroxide from a chemist into the water it stops it all going stagnant and keeps the contam away.

      @jack40734 Před 3 lety +1

  • @codyrichardson8374
    @codyrichardson8374 Před 4 lety

    Thats a sgfc not a mono tub and put a rack in side the fruiting chamber to Elevate the block for a more even humidity

    • @OneEarthMushrooms
      @OneEarthMushrooms  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, the rack idea is good. The only problem is this tub is too small for that, the fruiting bodies keep hitting the lid!
      Doesn't a SGFC have like a million holes in it?

    • @codyrichardson8374
      @codyrichardson8374 Před 4 lety

      It'd probably be helpful to atleast put a bunch of 1/4 inch hole on the bottom 2" apart up, down side to side. 1 better air flow, it will come up though the perlite. 2 you wouldn't have to worry about pooling water itd just drain. 3 thats the point of all the hole on a sgfc when you have a artificial source of humidity it needs to be able to escape and have fresh air too, verses a monotub that has a line of FAE holes (if preferred to put them), it has to create its own humidity but still allowed to breath but its also not building up an cutting out the oxygen. But this is how we find out new thing is experimenting, im just stuck in my ways. keep it going mann

    • @otacon1024
      @otacon1024 Před 4 lety

      @@OneEarthMushrooms Monotubs are when you use a bulk substrate (like coco coir + vermiculite) mixed with broken up grain spawn at the bottom of the tub. SGFCs are when you have intact colonized blocks/cakes sitting on top of a moisture buffer like perlite - and they usually have more/larger holes, yes. But the main difference is what form your substrate/spawn is in.

    • @jennabronson4704
      @jennabronson4704 Před 3 lety +1

      A "proper" RR-style SGFC should also have holes in the bottom, with the entire vessel suspended, allowing air flow up through the bottom and through the perlite.

    Could someone please help me out? I have a lions mane bag identical to the one in this video except there is maybe an inch of brownish yellow liquid at the bottom that has accumulated and the Bloc has receded from the bag a few centimeters. After I’ve placed into monotub is taking longer than usual to fruit. No signs of contamination though. Main concern is what is the brownish yellow liquid at the bottom and should I be concerned about it?

    • @blaureski
      @blaureski Před rokem

      Those are metabolites which are essentially waste products from it growing. Aka mushroom pee. Inducing fruiting has nearly everything to do with humidity, fresh oxygen, and temperature. If its not humid enough, the mushroom knows itll dry out and die so it doesn't even try

    • @SilverFrogStudios
      @SilverFrogStudios Před rokem

      It's probably just metabolite. Not a concern on it's own, but I think I've seen more buildup when I've had blocks that were a bit too wet to start.

    • @OneEarthMushrooms
      @OneEarthMushrooms  Před 3 lety

      I think thats doable, but in my opinion...if you can force the organism to generate fruiting bodies only at specific sites, the fruits will be larger and easier to harvest. At least, that's my theory!

    • @johnhinkleman9757
      @johnhinkleman9757 Před 3 lety

      It's more likely to get contaminated that way, better to keep the bag on the block and cut a slit on each side. You'll get more harvests from the block without it drying out or getting contaminated.

    • @Nick4b11
      @Nick4b11 Před 3 lety
