How Tech Workers Are Rebounding From Layoffs And Finding New Jobs | Business Insider Explains
Millenial here (early thirties), and switched to government job in Belgium 2 years ago. Glad I did.
Are you originally from Belgium? Or theUS and you moved to Belgium?
Thanks for sharing!
@@pencil6965Yes I'm a born and raised Belgian :D I couldn't live in the USA... Here I have 40+ days off per year + sick days 100% paid (23 per year, the rest is 60% paid unlimited), + 38 hours a week (7h30-15h30, 1 hour lunch break). And I get around 2600€ netto, but I'm not looking for a high wage here. I love work-life balance
@@pencil6965Yes I'm Belgian! I'm not tempted at all by the "American Nightmare" ahah
With the current recession and financial crises world wide I think getting a job isn’t the best solution to attaining financial freedom
I agree with you totally, in the words of my mentor Mr. Larry Kent Burton (the best time to make an investment is during financial crises)
You are right my friend, I don’t know this mr Larry guy, but anyone who is capable of giving financial advice as good as this is an excellent financial expert
In a field as rapidly evolving as cryptocurrency, staying updated is crucial. Mr. Kent continual research and adaptation to the latest market changes have been instrumental in helping me make informed decisions..
How can I get in touch with him ?

what is going on with the audio mixing? it sounds like someone slapped a flanger plugin effect on the mic output or smt. some autotune or audio normalization? i dunno how or what caused it but i know it sounds weird asf
They should lay off their incompetent staff, that would be a great thing rather than making stupid videos
@@BotDetector-44 bro chill
That is a man. They are trying to make him sound more like a woman.
I’m in tech. Got laid off 2 times in the past 2 years. However, I started my career in higher education at a public institution. I’ve recently started submitting my resume to higher ed jobs again. It was stable and relatively stress-free. Also, no one reached out to you during the weekend because of a work “fire” that needed to be put out.
Thanks for sharing!
400k layoffs in 2023 and 50k layoffs in under 2 months in 2024. Almost half a million got laid off.
The worst part about layoff waves are getting to stay and constantly worry, perhaps if you say or do something wrong in a meeting - you'd end up in the shitlist of people to be laid off. Perhaps if your project gets stalled, if your code doesn't work, if a customer expresses dissatisfaction - YOU might get to the office tomorrow and realise your pass doesn't let you in the door anymore.
Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.
yeah investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity but venturing into any legitimate Investment without a proper guidance of an expert can lead to a great loss too
Hello, I’m 37 and I am not worth much yet , please help me out. Bought my first house last month and I can't seem to make any other smart investment.
wanted to trade, but I got discouraged with the market price fluctuations
Can you recommend a guide for me?
Haven't you heard of Expert Chrissy Barymoer ?He gives excellent guide on the right stock with high dividend
Gen Z? - how about all generations these days looking for Job Security. At least Gen Z has time to recover.
you guys are old af and should have figured ur life out already lmao

Gen z isn’t being hired like that…
@@tiredoftheworld4834 like what
When a generation sees government jobs more attractive than the private sector tells me that you are heading in the wrong direction. I am from Argentina so I know the negative impact it had in my country, and now to get out of it we had to go to the complete opposite and get a libertarian president. Well, you guys in The US are rich so you are a long way to poverty....but I promise with a big government it will come!
Labor demand for govt jobs wont necessarily increase available positions. If anything, salaries will drop.
This vid made for kindergarten?
Yes, absolutely 👍🏻
The look & feel plus the music make it come across this way. Unfortunately, the sound is faulty.
Is this the generation that was telling boomers "Learn to code"
HA! I have not see a government job in my area that does not require coming in with a clearance. Good luck with that.
Don’t do drugs or commit crimes then
Federal gov often does require clearance. I don't recommend on it, it's torture. You gotta come up with documents you lost 20 years ago. They call people you know and ask inappropriate questions, you have to call old friends and former bosses and ask for favors. I did the whole thing and got an initial clearance, but then didn't get the job. I ended up in state gov instead, there's no clearance process for it. Btw once you do get clearance, you have plenty of options, it's highly sought. But it's not a fun process at all.
Trade Jobs Pay More.
Insider News needs new producers.
I left Google in 2023 for a public service job. I was constantly under stress back then. Every month another coworker of mine got laid off. I’m much more relaxed now. I’m getting more meaningful work done. I get paid less, but I don’t have to work weekends as often anymore. This was a wise decision.
What đo you do
Thanks for sharing!
@@xyz-pg3zdback at Google I was in an engineering role that involved working with customers often (they can be very demanding). When I switched to state gov work, I got an engineering role that involved working with internal teams only. This alone is a huge improvement to quality of life. There are still some downsides to working for gov: the technology is old and often obsolete. There are no budgets for adventurous projects like in big tech. But not having to worry about a cruel performance review process, the tough competition against coworkers, or the next round of layoffs - worth it. Most of my colleagues in state gov have been here for over a decade, this speaks for itself - they choose to stay. They have kids and mortgages, they rather have the stability of a job that's not going to get offshored to India tomorrow over the probably-temporary big bucks of FAANG.
How do you deal with the incompetence in senior public sector positions?
@@jasong3972 good question. The reality is that big tech execs are just as incompetent, but are often very confident and charismatic, and disguise it well. Google had some seriously bad managers too. There are other downsides to gov work, such as the fact the tech is olddddd and the pace is slow. But I prioritise my life outside work, so these things don’t bother me as much as they used to. I think that’s a healthy approach. The best job is the one that takes up the least amount of your time. Time is not a renewable resource, you’ll never get it back.
The audio mixing here is not good.
I would never work for the government. Sounds like a horrible idea.
Well you had choices. Not gen z at the moment
1. Start a youtube channel
2. Post about your layoff and hope it goes viral
Y people are becoming mad at software tech. It's not the only companies running the world
The entire writing, pasting, putting stuff in the bag is irritating af, fr stop that crap
Doesn’t gen z like asmr
Get over yourself
Get over yourself
Met a SW Dev last month worked at Nvidia and Intel. Got laid off at the former now for for the government, makes less but told me he now has peace of mind
I actually worked a few govt jobs and they do outsource - may not lay off but there is still some instability there.
I'm in state gov. Yes, there's *some* outsourcing already - especially for new roles, but mass layoffs of the huge scale that big tech companies is holding, this doesn't happen because politicians don't want this kind of negative headlines and voter anger. FAANG companies are moving jobs offshore to India. State gov can't do that without protests.
"How many Govt. employees does it take to screw in a light bulb?" ...
Isn't this an old joke?
Want to know a secret there's another industry that's, booming right now, that's the defence industry, geo-political instability and risk of war highest it's been since the cold war, means every defence budget has increased in every country, and defence contractors are hiring like crazy.
How about Internet security

this audio makes me uncomfortable
I advise getting a job in the trades. After being a commercial fisherman for just over 20 years. I got married and decided to settle down. I got my associate's degree in precision machining technology. Left college with $6,000 in student loans which are already paid off. And I make $40 an hour as a CNC programmer

f working for the govt.
Where yall got this beast to present this
Go to trade school. Now we have more college student at a uni than journalists in USA. College does not equal status. Its the money. Somehow people going from college = job = status to college = status. And dont tie urself to those debts
When your project is closed or the company relocates to a cheaper country, then Uncle Good Advice is useless.
The jobs were easy Blue Collar Work is Hard
😐 AI is going to be able to do just about everything they can do, including programming and engineering and possibly even coming up with new ideas and innovations
Do you guys need audio assistance?
Government service will have its reckoning too. The gross incompetence and waste is crushing taxpayers.
Gov IT pays well and the benefits are out of this world 🌎. No more unpaid overtime.
Amazing
Where this people go
Yep when Ai was a thing I knew immediately many people were automatically obsolete, no matter how good you were you are not beating a machine yeah you can make some bs "human" touch or artistic but for companies that isn't cutting it especially if you can combined 7 jobs into one.
Web developers maybe in trouble too soon imagine a tailored custom website like a high end business but for cheap and it's fast all you gotta do is put the text and pictures and done. 🤷♂️ The future is here and it's scary.
US Tech workers might have to apply for jobs in the UAE or Qatar if possible.
not if they tiktok and twerk.
Im gonna try to get a tech job in 2026, i guess i gotta apply 1000 jobs
Work for the US Military. I know it doesn't pay a whole lot, but you're gonna get that in benefits. Free PAID vacations. Free medical. Free housing. Low cost food. Whether you're an officer or enlisted, the US Military is the best place to work. Also, you can retire at 20 years and get lifetime veterans benefits. Or if you get injured in any way, you will get lifetime benefits.
I did 5 years and Im good with that. 20 years is tough
Say that to all the broken veterans
I get the attempt at “fun” video production but the crafting while she’s talking is super silly
And you will never be outsourced to India. Seems like a good deal to me.
that's no hack. there's no working remotely. plus these jobs are so boring and slow moving. gen z have a lack of commitment so forget staying in these jobs for a long time.
Ok boomer
They gave to high salary
If there are so many tech layoffs then how plenty of jobs are available in America for Indian techies with better packages . .
Companies used to post job ads with low pay, just to demonstrate they can't find local employees and get the right to bring in Indian workers on migrant visas. Migrants will work for less pay but get assistance with the immigration process (a relocation package - flights, removalists etc, an immigration lawyer to deal with the paperwork etc).
They so out of touch, its so cringe. Children playing roblox get more interaction then your corporation. And they actually deserve it. The demise of the propaganda machine is something to behold. Hope it was worth it for you all, guessing it was not.
And Tyson wants to hire 50,000 illegal immigrants . We’re screwed.
Yeah we really need to redo a bunch of that antitrust legislation that was passed at the end of the 19th century. Cuz we pretty much have monopolies over everything in our country from aircraft to meet. That's the only reason they can get away with things that they do. Mike price gouging. You know raising the price of their food 20% and then saying it's inflationary when inflation is less than 4% and their executives are getting record bonuses. Or hiring massive numbers of illegal immigrants
that's cuz you ain't gonna get no gen z'ers to pick fruit
@@bikedawgthere’s plenty of lgbtq+ to pick from

The only way to reduce the possibility of being laid off is be good at your job.......... be reaaaaally good at it....... be more than your job by value adding in areas outside your normal job scope.
Work longer and harder than you’re paid to and your reward is you get to keep doing it. 😂 suck a fat one.
we need gig economy back...
Best hack: dont get a job then u cant get layed off 😏
And that is?
Generally playing the race card works pretty well
? I work with a lazy fat white guy who’s privileged af and talks about race and politics all the time. Your point
Please for more than a century being black, Arab, or Hispanic is a slight against you when it comes to hiring rates 😂
