Starbucks is Americaâs (and the worldâs) first choice for reliable, quality coffee. But the company that feeds our caffeine dependency had to fight to create a whole new culture around our favorite brew.
Todayâs video showcases how Starbucks, under the leadership of Howard Schultz, rose from obscurity to opening a new store somewhere in the world every 8 hours.
As youâll come to discover, Schultz didnât found Starbucks, but he did create the foundation for an exciting and new direction in the company. That iconic white cup and green straw were born from international inspiration and the desire to offer America a higher quality brew. At a time when coffee was weak and watered down, it seems ridiculous to suggest that anybody would pay top dollar for a drink they could barely pronounce. Frappa-what? Cappu-who?
Todayâs video shows you how Schultz used his singular vision to drive Starbucks to the top, changing and molding a new culture in the image he designed. Starbucks, as youâll soon learn, teaches you how to remain true to your vision in spite of what everyone else is telling you.

â đŁ *MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT:* Business Casual is suing CZcams. We have just published a feature-length documentary about our case. It is being censored. If you are a fellow creator, you need to watch this. ⥠czcams.com/video/4IaOeVgZ-wc/video.html
Bro what a waste of potential due to all these lawsuits. It unfortunate. Will you make videos again?
This channel is dead meat for good reason
not even a single second as a viewer I was distracted to click any other suggested video by other channels, great quality content, keep it up
Thanks Rahul! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Me too, Business Casual you should give us behind the scenes of how you create such interactive videos
Imagine being the founder of such as massive company
Walking on the street seeing people using the product you created
Or being those 3 founders (not Howard) seeing Howard Schultz succeeds and many people drink starbucks. You could have been Howard Schultz only if you listened to him before.
Imagine
The US, the place where a ton of people go to coffee shops and will drink anything but coffee.
@Xeno Phon you're so woke
in 0.4 litre cups.... omfg :-/
@Xeno Phon They are no terrorists, no one are. The country is too seperated, it seems like another Civil War was coming, though it will never happened, but the division of people are very clear. 2 parties fight each other without restrain, throwing everything they have to win the election. Racism still occur, and the country is in a mess. It might take another Lincoln or Washington to actually bring America back to its track. I am not american, but i feel poor for them. California has its people working together with its mayor, even planning to be the states that emits no gas in 2050. So i suppose that some people are still good, but overall USA is a mess now
Not true in Seattle. Maybe 1 in every 10 people will get a tea or italian soda.
Kenya a country that grows alot of coffee but drinks Tea.. We will continue pumping caffeine in your veins...
this voice is majestic lol
I love your vids

I agree Jake! Yours sounds street smart!
The US isn't obsessed with coffee, it's obsessed with sugar
Ryan C true. Starbucks is trash.
@@dexonpoint1014 Sugar is poison â ïž
The government encourages and supports American's high fructose corn syrup addiction
I shouldn't have left a reply about sugar being poison, and said nothing else about what to do! If you're not already convinced, please read Sugar Blues by William Dufty (1st published: 1975). Still in print, available everywhere. đ©âđ«
As a person who drinks 3-4 cups a day but will not drink unsweetened coffee, I cannot refute this.
I work at Starbucks, Iâve never had an entry level job that treated itâs employees so well. Itâs the only company Iâve worked for that I can say my partners and the community feel like family. Especially during the virus, they closed down our store but still paid us for the hours we were going to work. I love this company and how they take care of their partners.
What the wage if i ask no offense.
@@bloodwargaming3662 None taken, I work in California so our pay was $15.50 an hour. Itâs increasing to $17 an hour by the end of the year.
Plus a 5% raise since iâve been with SB over two years.
@@locustswarminbound8702 nice ig it's significantly higher than what you get in mcd ,burger king and all those places
@@bloodwargaming3662 Good grief yes. And when stock options are included, employees who stick around have done extremely. well..
Dang I was paid $12 at Starbucks back in 2017 when I was in California. Maybe I ought to try and reapply
This guy is the American Dream
Thats amazing. He somehow convinced people to pay more than 6 times what they normally would pay for a cup of coffee. Marketing is a powerful veneer
Good point!
@Jay Talents what's the difference?
Didnt he improve the product tho with freshly pressed, better sourced beans, and a positive comfortable atmosphere? I feel like you arenât comparing apples to apples here.
even today I go to starbucks, caribou or any coffee shops avail to sit down and study/work. Its that environment that Starbucks created.
It was better quality tho, makes sense
Starbucks selling best experience not products. Genius marketingđ
I'm not even a coffee drinker but as a business person I appreciate what Schultz has created. He's not one of these celebrity CEOs who arrived when the company was established. It's all his. I've read his books (which you should probably cite when taking excepts from them) and even got to see him speak in New York about 10 years ago during his book tour. Schultz has many talks right here on youtube worth watching.
Please do history of IKEA.

There's a rather large chunk of history missing from this piece, which is in complete contrast to the point made "the company stayed true to a philosophy of corporate social responsibility a belief that profit should always come second to people", the part where Starbucks got caught avoiding paying ÂŁmillions of taxes on record profits in Europe, Starbucks have never recovered since then especially in the UK
I can see that in multinational corporation, even Ford does that
It is wrong to say people over profits, it is right to say people over shortsighted profits, because the truth is that a respectable company, while making less profits per annum, will have a far longer lifespan and public trust.
And I'm not being cynical about this, I'm not saying they only do what they do to maximise long term profits. I'm saying that doing what they do results in maximum long term profits. Isn't that wonderful?
@@attalan8732 No I wouldn't say its wonderful at all.
This popped up to my YT morning recommendation and after watching it, I felt like it leaves a warm and delectable sense of aroma for a new inspiration.
"great tasting coffee" Europeans watching snorts silently
Honestly I get his vision for wanting to introduce European coffee culture to the world, but it's not the best version of it. Like Starbucks doesn't do very well in Italy, Spain, , South Africa and Australia due to the fact that they over charge for the same experience all the other places offer and it takes away from the cafe culture. Good video though!
GulliblePanda they are very popular in spain bro
Was going to lay down my thoughts in this comment section, but read your comment and found them already there!
@@legaciestr actually, their market share in Spain is inconsequential. Any local coffee shop will give you a much better overall experience.
@@osmanyousaf7866 yeah but unfortunately the keyword here is local unlike Starbucks that are known, like how McDonald was in a hype back in Russia after the Soviet collapse

"Dont reinvent the Wheel"
"The wheel is the best invention in history"
I have heard those two phrases more times in my life than i can count.
Please Business Casual, do a video on the wheel. Mabey you can talk about the future of wheels aswell, ive seen some prototypes of a smart-sphere instead of cylinder like wheels.
I used to work at Starbucks and can say that you get hours based on how managers treat you. If they donât like, you get worse shifts or almost no hours at all
Oh no! I just finished my afternoon coffee when I noticed a new video from BC. Now I must make another one before I start watching! Even the video itself is going to be about coffee, yum!
This was a fantastic watch! Excellent work!
I remember the Starbucks craze here in the Philippines between 2006 to 2008. It's expensive for a coffee at that time but young adults would dress up and went to the cafe and would take up chairs outside the cafe or near the glass window, so they can be seen by other passer by and STAY there for a long time. People want to be seen that they can afford an expensive coffee. It's really an awesome coffee but at that time, it's more of a social status brand.
I would be interested in your take for mobile branding. How Apple/Google vary and just the nuances that the high end are separated by price alone instead of specific brand like car manufacturers do.
Nice story.
I still won't go to Starbucks for coffee.
No kidding.
If you donât fit their agenda politically youâre invited to leave.
Same
In Germany (and most of Europe) you can get a good cup of coffee at every local cafe or rostery and it will cost you less. What you won't get there are those trendy californian beverages which are basically just milk and sirup.
Another awesome video by Business Casual Thanks. I was just wondering, how do you make your videos so good, what do you use?

Am re-watching this video to learn how you create such interactive video
4:12 "there were no such things as dedicated coffee houses"
Austria, Nothern Itlay and Bavaria: "Are we joke to you?"
The show is on the other foot for Starbucks in Seattle. 10 years ago, they were putting all the mom & pop cafes out of business by buying them out, now it's the other way around. People want more flavors to choose from, like irish cream, kaluha, rose, & lavender. They've also got new competition from the popular new Dutch Brothers chain that got good PR from the California fires a few years ago.
Glad i found this channel on browse the details of each video are great! Keep the good work up man!đ

Great video and loved all the coffee puns
One of the most detailed videos about Starbucks out there! Loved every minute of it!
I love the Starbucks experience of sippin coffee on their stores while chatting with friends or reading a book or browsing my phone. Everything seems to tastes so much better because of the relaxing ambience of chill music and white noise of peoples conversation. What i dont like is their coffee, it really sucks, if only they can make real coffee like those in Italy
man, how did you make these videos? they are really amazing. which tool do you use?
This is one of the best and inspiring stories
My 2 favorite channels. Business casual and cold fusion.
Starbucks has some of the worst coffee Iâve ever tasted, not to mention they charge way too much. I was in Seattle six years ago, and didnât bother to walk a few blocks to see the original, thatâs how bad I think their coffee is.
I barely know anyone who goes there to actually drink regular coffee. It's all vanilla lattes and caramel macchiatos and java chip frappuccinos. I'll admit, those are kinda good sometimes.

There is probably a perception that the US is a coffee drinking nation because the people that drink it talk about it or show it a lot. Where as most people don't even think about it. When you see a sidewalk in New York filled with people drinking coffee you think "coffee is pretty popular here" but when you look on the other side of the street you don't immediately think about coffee.
