My First Ever Sea Trout on Lures. Sea Trout Fishing Ireland

- Sea Trout fishing with lures must be the most frustrating type of fishing I have ever done! Yet, it was an unbelievably rewarding type of angling and one that was great fun! Fishing for Sea Trout and catching one on lures was a goal I have set for myself a year ago. It has taken me a long time and many lost fish before I managed to finally land myself a Sea Trout. This video is just a small portion of the frustration and the excitement experienced in the process.
During this challenge, I have learned a lot in terms of how to catch a sea trout. It's fishing at its finest in the beautiful scenery with many sea trout, sea bass and mullet around. Fishing for sea trout with lures can be very effective, especially when tunning your rig with some Sea trout flies. I hope you enjoy this fishing video, while getting from it some tips and tricks on how to catch a sea trout.
Apologies for some strange noises I might be making there, it was emotional fishing 😅😅
Since I've never done any Fly Fishing, the next challenge will be to catch a Sea Trout on Fly.

Great stuff Marcin, I'm really enjoying your vlogs. Such a frustrating fish in such a special place. Great that you got one too 🎣🎣🎣🔥🔥🔥

well done pall nice trout thou , congrats . the trout bits so furious that we have no time to react and set the hook , I found that sometimes fast and aggressive twitching retrieve produce more bites of trout , when it 's have no time to think much . 👍😊
That's interesting Ted, thanks for that information lad 👌👌
Brilliant video
Cheers Ciaran, check out the newer ones on Seatrout 👍
Amazing stuff
Thank you Joseph
Great videos I learnt a lot from your Twaite Shad in St Mullins video, went and caught my 1st last Saturday, the river was chocolate coloured and fast but I perceived and was rewarded after a couple of hours. Only one fish but it was the only fish caught on the river that day 👌
brilliant result Keith and I am delighted my videos help with that. Sounds like very tricky conditions you had. Tight lines
@@MarcinKantor thanks, yea the river was chocolate brown I was there from 11am to 6pm and trashed the water anyway 😀 the reward was a beautiful fish so happy out to get my 1st. Thanks man tight lines 🎣
After all that effort, a well deserved 🐠 fish 👍👍
Thank you Keith
Great video, I find a slow retrieve is best and the savage gear seeker lure or the westin salty lure the best down in County Kerry
Everyone seems to like a different retrieve but I also like slow and steady. Have a few of them new inline seekers still in boxes. Need to take them out soon 👍 yet to catch in the salty, good to hear they work for you
Marcin wee tip add the spin stop into your retrieve and that will increase your takes, love the channel from a deadicated sea ST fisherman in the North :)
Thank you very much Andrew, glad you enjoyed it bud 🙏👌 I will certainly try that, been using it since, but you know yourself. Them fish can be &@#% lol you getting any nice ones up there?
@@MarcinKantor haha no problem mate and yes i know all too well how frustrating they can be :) Tight lines !!
Good Stuff!!!!!
Cheers man! 🎣🎣
You are a good character for a fishing program👌😃.... The Irish accent is creeping in on you haha!!!
Oh shite 😂😂😂 hahaha, must be half Irish after 15 years! Thanks 😉
Haha fair play. Keep it up, you are on to a good thing. Definitely got the right energy for a good fishing program👌!!!
@@spiderjoes thanks man!! 🙏🙏
Was dedicated bass man .till 10 years ago .always found when weather bad sea trout seem to hit lures better. Nother thing i found partridge outpoints as used in salmon fishing .seem to b better hookers than most .
Noticed the same regarding the weather, good to hear similar experiences
What A brilliant video. Really enjoyed the honesty and banter with the other fisherman.
Is there anything more Irish than "By jaysus yeah"😂
Want to try catch sea trout on lures myself but don't know anywhere in Cork
hahaha, thanks very much Terry, glad you enjoyed it 👍 I don't know that area myself, but estuaries and smaller rivers and streams mouths are the places to fish, so a quick check on google maps should get you a few options
If it would be easy, lt wouldnt be that rewarding to catch one. Good Job done there 👌🏻 always keep on trying.
Altough, in Germany we do some things different in Seatroutfishing than you do.
Maybe you can get some inspiration that Not that many fishes get off the hook.
Keep up the nice Videos 💪🏻 cheers
That's it Kilian, the more difficult it is the better it tastes 😉 how do you fish for them in Germany? Any big ones there?
Nice sea trout mate
Cheers 😊🎣
EXCELLENT
Many thanks!
Marcin nice video!!! Could you tell me where did you buy the lure boxes? As looks longer but not very wide. Also, what type of shoulder bag are you using?
cheers Ramon, I am not too sure. Might have been Fishing Mart... The shoulder bag is Shimano Xefo bag.
HI Marcin, those pre-tied flies on leader are very handy, saves a lot of time. Can you give us a link to where they can be had? Great video/nice catch.
PM me via social media and I'll share the contact details
Nice my friend ❤️👍🤝🙏
Thanks for visiting
Great 👍
Cheers Mark, tight lines
Great video, my God the first day !! What was happening?? 😳😅😃
Thank you, I think there was a huge amount of mullet in with a few sea trout mixed in, was making things tricky
Is that east, south or west of the country. Not sure I recognise it. I fish for Sea trout in rivers in the south east. Good fun
She didn't want to kiss you 😂. Nice vid. Cant wait to get out fishing this week.
I wasn't her type it seems... what can you do
Congratulations mate love seatrout there such a great challenge next time your in co down you should give them a go off the shore i love it 😀
Thank you Marc, fascinating experience. Is the fishing good for them up there?
There are good numbers off seatrout here all year round the fishing is good for them yes but they can be so tricky to get them on the bite I guess it makes it worthwhile when you get one to take
@@marcmcconnell4910 that's the beauty of it, isn't it? Any good ones you had Marc?
My pb this year was 4 ibs but other locals were hitting 8ibs really beautiful fish bigger ones were in spring time I did lose a few decent ones in November but most were averaging a couple of pounds all safely returned aswel 😁

Hello Marcin, interesting rig there, having a salt water fly a couple of ft above a metal lure. I use a metal lure on the bottom for weight with one or two tiny Sabikki's above which used to catch the Herring. Do you catch many Sea Trout with your rig. Great video by the away.
Hi David, thanks! I don't do that much sea trout fishing but when I do, I find this rig works for me better than the metal lure on its own. I do also, catch a plenty bass while using it!
Great video. Have you had much success with the fly onto the mini clip. Never seen that done before.
Thanks Aaron. Yes, it often makes the fish bite on a hard day. Not once, had a fish grabbing the fly when they wouldn't take the lure
Nice video Marcin!
you mentioned grayling at the end of the video where were you fishing for them ? Here in Ireland?
No, over in Wales on the river Dee
that place is made for a sandeel or a shrimp on a float, i do very well with a westin salty or the smallest size savage gear physco spratt, nice fish btw 👍👍👍
Thanks mate, she was small enough but meant a lot 😊 have those lures, how do you fish them?
@@MarcinKantor i like to fish the salty using a steady retrieve with a few spins stop inbetween, the physco sprat i just steady retrieve thou its the smallest version so it lends to a slowish pace, i use a shrimp pattern as my dropper on about a 7cm trace
@@whitetroutchannel nice one, sounds very Scandinavianish 😊 must be working clearly
@@MarcinKantor mate tbh ive been fishing scanda style now seriously for about 5 years because i wanted to try something new and im not sure if i catch the same amount of fish as just using tobies, mepps and flying c's but i certainly have a lot of fun trying. if you look up justfishingdk or fishingfyn on youtube theres plenty of good tips on the videos
@@whitetroutchannel funny you said that, been watching all the just fishing dk vids lately and after ordering some new lures and flies from their site last week. Like their shrimp flies. Roll on winter 👌
Great video! Subbed :)
Thanking you 👌
Me first fish was a sea trout but small
Nice way to start fishing adventure that 👌
Hey Marcin, what did that men showed you there? the old fashion way, what is it?
just a small spinner size 2 or so, with a split shot above it to aid casting
Very funny ffs 😉
Fair play to you sir hope ur next one 6 lbs plus
Thanks Robbie, won't be for the lack of trying I can assure you 😉
I love your videos mate , congrats on the nice salmon you got recently. Are you based in Ireland ? I'm looking for info on bass/sea trout fishing in the mayo area any help welcome. Thanks in advance
.
Great video! Have you tried changing your hooks?
Thank you. They were changed indeed lol I now think at least half of them weren't proper takes but I perhaps touched mullets while they swam by...
I was taught to keep the rod tip high playing the fish , do you know what the difference is or is it good either way
Josh, 95% people would have, myself included! What many people don't realise is that the angle of rod tip to lines matters, not the position of the tip. So if you keep the same angle it doesn't matter if it's up, left or right. As to why? If you want the fish to stay deeper, keep the rod tip lower. not as much pressure to get them up to the surface. Trout often jump and are known to shed the hook when airborne, so my preference was to let the fish stay deeper. hope that makes sense. Bear in mind, if the ground is snaggy to always keep the rod tip up high!
@@MarcinKantor I will keep that in mind to stop them from jumping .
@@MarcinKantor Watching a fish leap from the water is half the fun. I only lower the rod tip if I want the fish to change its direction: say, when its heading for a snag. Other than that, its rod tip up always, regardless of whether I am flyfishing or spinning. Tight lines
Great vid 👍🏼 where in Ireland are you fishing? The water looks lovely and clear compared to the sea weed that covers my spot
Thanks, I tend to travel all around the island
sea weed is what you want for sea-trout too they do all there hunting mainly close to the shore and its a better method for them to escape hungry seal mouths
@@whitetroutchannel good info mate, are you getting many up there your way?
I hope I get to go fishing this year, I miss it...Oh I forgot to mention, we now clean boats ;)
not sure if that's a comment under my video or an add, but it was cleverly done ;)
I think a few of them hits may have been on the teaser fly?
I'd hook them, had many fish on the teaser, but you might be right, although I think I might have foul hooking some mullet in the process...
Hi, how long is the rod?
Paul, it's Favorite Skyline TZ 862ML. A superb rod really
Just found your videos. Brilliant I have never visited Ireland but it looks fantastic. Whereabouts are you fishing,or is that a secret? Tight lines and keep producing your videos they are brilliant thank you!

You don't strike a spun lure the fish hooks itself by opening it's mouth around the lure while it's moving away from it. You're tanking it away before it's managed it!
Try putting another split ring of the hook . This results in more hookups
good stuff Michael 🙌
Where can I get teaser flies in Ireland please.
Send me a PM and I'll share the details 👍

A breeze would be a winner.the wind is the key...as a fisherman no wind no fish simple.
Fully agree Robert, 100%. Love a bit of surface action on the bass when it's flat calm 👌🎣
When a fish is biting you shouldn’t pull on it and yank, you should hold it and reel it in slowly cause the hook can go loose pretty easily, the moment you feel the fish it when it has the bait in the mouth, not when it’s secured 100%

Try silver or copper them lures you use not To bad but use them in summer months ,,,, try Toby ,, lukki,,, herri,,,lures better.for sure ,,,also try Hansen stripper lures fantastic s/ trout lures only use the floaters in the summer months ,,, advise only
advise is always welcome, have most of these lures here. What do you mean by 'floaters' ?
@@MarcinKantor some of the lures float like certain rapala plugs etc,, I use them and have fantastic sport in the summer months , it is fantastic to see the sea trout or bass taking these floating lures from the surface.it’s heart stopping at times.
@@robertgreen5217 of course, didn't understand at first. I use yo zuri 3d surface minnow, and having some good luck with that. Nothing better than surface fishing 👍👍🎣🎣

Soft rod, need hiever one, that is the reason u dont set hook well
Lol thanks Mario, this is the exact opposite what the previous person said under this video. 😉 Just goes to show you, there is no rules in fishing. Sometimes it all works, sometimes it doesn't. And it's not a soft rod at all as it happens 👍
5:46 😂😂😂😂
🙃
Sea trout will follow and strike at the lure its very frustrating, as you have learned "hit it hard ya fucking muppet" 😂
😂😂 Very fecking frustrating but soo good when you eventually land one
maybe your lure was bumping into the shoals of mullet ??
Indeed mate. Now, with the time perspective I believe that's exactly what was happening. With that said a few of them were trout among the mullet. You might have spotted I hooked a quite nice one, it went airborne and shed the hook in a split second.
I forgot to congratulate you on your first sea trout :)) I was so focused trying to figure out your dilemma 😅
@@TheDerek1976 love it hahaha good man Derek. Getting a few lures and fly from Denmark before the next winter. We will see 😉
@@MarcinKantor yes the fly works better down there. look for where the water is flowing in the opposite direction to the main current and send the fly in !! tight lines .
@@TheDerek1976 cheers Derek
Theres no need to strike that hard with sea trout, just raise the rod with pressure on line
One to try the the next spring 👌
Don’t strike when spinning an leave tension slack fish will hook them selves
Very interesting Barry, probably more controversial and yet harder not to strike on a take...
Try just lifting into the fish mate u at pulling it out of its mouth and not giving a chance
Too much excitement Joseph 😉😉
that tail look like a 2 year old adult salmon (grilse)
🤔🤔
@@MarcinKantor What do you think, Salmon have a fork tail, Sea Trout is straight, certainly a grilse
@@southerneruk I think you might could be right there. The spots also suggest it could have been a salmon...

Whoever told you to keep the rod tip low doesn’t have a clue about fishing. You’re holding the rod completely wrong for trout. They are taking the complete hand out of you
thanks for the comment. pointing the rod tip low helps to keep fish lower in the water column, which results in less jimping and less hooks pulls during the jumps. it makes absolutely no difference whether you keep your rod tip high or low, as long as you retain the same angle of line to tip
