I don't mean to make other bands look bad. But Be'lakor is far superior in their amazing music. They're just perfect in their music, their growling doesn't sound noisy nor does any of their instrumentals. It just all sounds perfectly put together.

Check out Amorphis as well. The first two albums - Thousand Lakes and Karelian - are exemplars of the melo-death genre. Every track is sublime.

@@luismacielcosta8845 Undoubtedly. That and Karelian are some of the best of all time in Metal (unfortunately I'm not partial to Amorphis' more recent works, but their earlier stuff in their first two aforementioned albums embodies the melo-death subgenre so perfectly).

    Through tainted mass
    A scourge unseen
    Brought three winters forth
    And set between
    After these hundreds of years
The embers and fate will collide
    Her rotten heart has burst
    And shattered through dead wood
When they drank from the earth, the end was near
Tracing paths that once ran alone and pure
    Suffused within, the blighted decay
Now snapped into dust, their splinters fall
But a tithe to the wind, his frail grasps
Clawed for the moon then came undone
When all hope fails in the last broken bough
    Her strength will be gone
Churning ash and husks in the bitter winds
Crack the earth and burn the sky
    A wry procession of hubris
    Where nothing remains
    But everything changes...
    In destruction she will create
Arising in glory, the searing gaze
    Crimson-handed specter of death
Under the blood eye of furies
    Bury their feeble hearts

I have no idea what inspires these lyrics and allows them to take the shape that they do, but it's seriously unique amongst an ocean of completely hollow bellowing and growling. I wish I had even a single ounce of this level of talent. If I did, the short stories that I write would be transcended to another magnitude altogether.

    • @dc8836

Give Mastodon's Emperor of Sand a try. They're more like traditional heavy metal than melodic death metal but their lyrics tend to tell detailed connected stories like Stone's Reach does.
Ne Obliviscaris is also worth a look. They're like some hodgepodge of melodic death metal and progressive metal but they have very intricate lyrics and musical compositions. Their songs are basically poems set to music.

pretty impressive that you can write a riff as strong as that one at 0:30 and then use it only the ONE time in a 7-minute song. must've taken some grit; 3 a.m., white-knuckle gripping the steering wheel while blowing past easy off-ramps, bloodshot eyes fixed on the destination
