Neil the KROKiwi here. I think its important to spend wisely not massively. I recall jim smith wasting the Francis money and more besides on clapped out, injury prone & lazy/disinterested players who were good enough to get us out of Div 2 - just - but then didn't kick on. Only Gemmill and Curbishley and to a lesser extent Ainscow were value for money; Langan was better than decent but often injured. Ron Saunders spent far less but the players he got were picked for the system he wanted to play and as group did far better by the club (how many free transfers can we grab from villa this time round!!! [not serious]). How much did Gold & Sullivan spend to get us out of Div 3 last time? Maybe a fair bit bit the players probably weren't good enough for the next league on the whole and TJF had to spend a bit subsequently. I hope the new manager will be able to get what he knows he needs and we can build a team for 3-4 seasons ahead. Lets see what happens next. Excited. PS if we can retire Bellingham's #22 why haven't we retired TJF's #8? What do you think guys?
Thank you for your comment and some excellent points made. You give some good examples of where we have wasted money in the past so it certainly is not a new thing. I would add the money given to Harry Redknapp a number of seasons ago to that list as well. We ended up in real trouble with FFP as a result of that and had several average players on long contracts which held us back for many years. With these owners I would expect things done very differently and hopefully we can made some shrewd signings.
The Rangers friendly is a Trevor Francis memorial game as he played for both clubs. The club have also commissioned a statue of Trevor to go outside the ground and will be honoring him in a number of different ways. I don't personally this we need to retire the #8 shirt with everything else that is happened however it is a nice idea. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

Keep it away from Gardner is the key.
The use of 20m has to benefit us for two seasons minimum if we get promoted. It needs to be used with next season being considered also. Going down a league is a blessing in disguise for such investment in s very poor squad. We also need to stop giving contracts to players who offer very little on the pitch eg jukey.. waste of money giving him a 2 year contract as he has done nothing for the past 2 years to warrant this. That money could be used elsewhere with a player adding to the squad.
Thank you very much for your comment. I think that it was Garry Cook that said that we wanted to build a Championship ready squad which really backs up your point about building a squad to benefit us for a number of seasons.
Relegation was hard to take but the timing was perfect in as much as we had a lot of players either out of contract or near the end of their contract which gives us a great opportunity for that re-build and reset we keep talking about. KRO and kind regards (Gary)
@@SmallHeathAllianceFCtbh it wasnt hard for some fans as we’ve been waiting the last ten years or more for it to happen. It was only time before the drop came our way. Too many managers too many rubbish signings etc. fans lording the likes of juke and deeney… 😂. Rubbish players IMO. We have the opportunity now to back Chris Davies and let him apply his footballing style to a team that he builds not craig gardner’s merry injured men. KRO lads great video as always.
You lads pumping out content quicker then I can watch it! Great vid as always. I don’t think we will spend £20m on signings unless players leave. I’d expect a few loans/frees as well as 5-6 permanent for fees so expect maybe closer to £12-£15m but that includes wages, sign off fees, agents fees etc. maybe if the right person comes along and is willing to join for the right price then we might see that jump up but we have to be careful not to spend money for monies sake.
Thank you for your comment Ricky and we are really pleased you enjoyed the podcast. A number of people asked us to keep producing content over the summer break so we are trying to keep up with what is going on at the club, which is not easy, as things are never quite!
It is hard to day how much we will actually spend as there are quite a number of factors involved. I made the point in the podcast that player sales will add to the pot and if we got say £7 to £9 million for JJ then that will increase the budget further. As also mentioned the key is how we spend what we do have wisely and not just the about we spend.
Do you remember what happened when the club gave Harry Redknapp money to spend? It didn't work and we ended up with ineffective players on high wages and long contracts and eventually falling foul off FFP. These owners will be a lot wiser than that but we still have to spend sensibly. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

Never forget we got Jose Dominguez for 175k and he was brilliant, I agree that that budget was speculation, I said to my villa mate the other day we’ve got 40m budget, only the club actually knows

I can't see that figure being correct, I think we all need to calm down a bit . I know you have mentioned this , but I can see next season being a real slog, and there is no guarantee we will get promoted first time . Long way to go yet lads . KRO.

Training starts Monday , season starts 45 days time ,1 signing ,1 bar and 2 screens , and we are going to romp the league , think we all need to calm down there are 22 teams who will do their best to mess us up , when we've had 6-8 quality players come in IL get excited

The recruitment is all being done. Data is being analysed and agents approached. It will all start to be more clearer within a few weeks when the signings start to come in.

i agree in many ways, but i'm not so sure the rumour matters in negotiations, these people know Knighthead have money and are investing heavily regardless of a rumour..

The club maybe being firm with their valuation of players and not.being held to ransom by the selling clubs. This might be frustrating for fans but it means the club are standing their ground. I don't mind going up front for £50 per week. Of course, I can't guarantee I'd be able to get to the ball before the referee picks it up at half time. Mind you, that wouldn't stop me getting picked for England...

I think the Wrexham suggestion has been blown out of all proportion by the media and I doubt very much it actually came from the club. It's hard to tell what is real and what is just media garbage, designed to sell papers and get clicks. I suspect this Wrexham suggestion is the latter. It won't happen. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

Not sure how much influence Gardner has on our transfers, but I really don’t rate the guys acumen. Really hope recruitment is implemented with a more scientific/stats based approach. KRO

I'm not sure how much say he will have this year. CD seems to be a data driven man and will have his eyes on players that will suit his style of football. I think they will chat internally and CG might chip in but I feel the main bulk will be down to CD himself.

It’s not about how much money we got it’s how we use it . And the last time we spend a lot of money under the Harry Redknapp it didn’t work out to well . The key is the recruitment it needs to be a 100% right .

This is 100% right. For a brief moment, I forgot about the HR era and how much we actually spent during that time. CD seems to be a data man so I think a lot of his decisions won't be rushed or forced and he will thankfully do his due diligence.

Yeah, leaking the budget or even talking those sorts of numbers will automatically make other clubs put up there prices. This is why we feel it's just speculation and talk at the moment.
Sadly Longstaff has just signed a new contract. Doesn't make it impossible but certainly more difficult. I really like him, he has a track record of scoring constantly.

I can't see Mr Wagner or Gary Cook saying to the manager " you can have 20 million, now go and let everyone know". At the same time I'm sure if he's after a certain player or number of players the owners will find the money. What do you think of the Tobias Lauriston rumour ?( £7 mil ?). If that's the sort of money they are willing to spend then maybe £20 million could be true?. I watched a you tube video of his skills and goals but was left pretty underwhelmed to be honest. I thought he looked sluggish. KRO

I've read mixed reviews about Tobias Lauriston however it is clear that he has scored goals wherever he has been. £7 million seems high and I'm sure the club would have to be pretty sure he would be successful if the want to spend that type of money in League One. I feel there is to much talk . Data does not win matches young hungry players needed over priced ordinary players we dont wantyou have only got to look at stansfield raidspurs man utd Liverpool academy's young and quality
True, data might not win matches but it can certainly help when scouting and filling gaps in the team. It's not an exact science and doesn't get used in that way but it should be an extra tool in the kit :)
Totally agree that we need hungry players who are willing to fight for everything next season. We will be facing a lot of teams parking the bus, long balls and constant crosses into the box so we need to be ready to adapt and be ready for next season depending on opponent.

I'm with you matt good goalie strong back four think we have a good midfield with the likes of Donavan who can unlock 11me behind the ball defences Key to this is the strikers to score goals we been banging on about this since che Adams if only we could find another Horsell Chelsea reserve what a player for blues . Totally agree with this. We need to have some spaces squad with a few players who have familiarity with this division and know what it takes to win consistently at this level. I think we will hopefully see a few transfers this week or next :)

I think that is the point we were making in the podcast. We need to build a squad with the right type and quality of players and not just try to throw money to get players in. You also make a really valid point about building around some of the decent players that we already have. I know a lot of Blues fans would like to see all of last season's squad changed however the reality is that some will remain and in any event it will take a few seasons to get the squad we actually want. I believe what was stated the manager has been told to build a championship team this season ready for next season. So the will be plenty of players coming in this season. Onwards and Upwards. 👍
