    The title is correct. It is SURPRISING. It's like nobody on her team consulted an economist. Any decent economist would've told her price control doesn't work. There are countless studies on this, and they ALL say it doesn't work. It'll lead to shortage. Does she think Americans loved it when stores were out of toilet papers? Wait until all essential items like eggs, milk, bread, meat are out of stock.

    @girlwriteswhat Před 24 dny +15

    They're very popular policies among economically illiterate people.
    Price controls lead to shortages. There isn't a single country where it's been tried it where this hasn't happened.
    You want to know why food costs so much? Same reason everything costs so much. Extended COVID lockdowns and restrictions reduced supply, and the injection of a ton of cash into the economy increased demand.
    Inflation likely COULD have been transitory--a blip--had the following happened:
    1) reopen in summer 2020. You could still enforce precautions, and restrict international travel, but do what Florida did.
    2) refill the Paycheck Protection Program with unspent COVID money. When the PPP had run dry, that's exactly what Republicans argued to do. There was nearly $800b in COVID money already appropriated that no one was using because estimates of who would need what, and when, were off. So why not just reallocate that money? The Democrats wouldn't hear of it. They wanted new spending. $484b worth (only $310b of which went to the PPP). No new spending, no more PPP.
    3) no more COVID stimulus in late 2020. This is on Trump. He should have shut down the government before spending another penny on enabling COVID restrictions and lockdowns.
    4) no America Rescue Plan. If the mostly Democrat run states and cities had reopened when the initial wave was over (summer 2020), there would have been no justification to appropriate another $1.2t in early 2021. The ARP enabled Democrat states and cities to remain shuttered--they were being paid to stay closed and produce little during 2021..
    5) no Inflation Reduction Act. That act supercharged the already out of control inflation, and it did nothing to reduce inflation. It was just money for "green" projects and Democrat pork.
    Adjusted for age demographics, Florida's COVID outcomes were no worse than California's.
    Now. What do you think will happen if you give first time homebuyers a $25,000 subsidy? Home prices will increase. Most home sales are pre-owned. You're basically creating a seller's market. I can now list my home for $25,000 more than I would have. I might not get that much more, but I'll get more. So you're going to inflate home prices.
    Unless you up supply. Which means new homes. Which means builders who need loans. In a high interest environment. Are tax credits going to offset the 400% increase in the cost of borrowing?
    Child tax credits? While I agree with them in principle, the way they're done is wasteful. They tax me the full amount, then hand me back some of my money, minus a costly processing fee. "Baby checks" only exist because the government was concerned that the usually sole breadwinner (dad) wasn't going to take care of his kids. They took money from dad and wrote mom a check to make sure there were diapers and onesies. It wasn't to incentivize having babies. If it was, they'd have just given dad a bigger tax deduction.
    So why not just do that? Just increase the upfront deduction for dependent children. Take less of my money in the first place.
    And of course, all of this is going to cost more money than taxes can cover. Which means more government borrowing, and increasing the money supply. Which is the definition of inflation.

      @@GoogleVideoMan Good, I need my taxes cut. Inflation caused by Biden and Harris has made it much more expensive to live.
      Regarding debt, the issue isn't the amount of money coming in, in its the spending. The government needs to cut spending. Harris' proposals will only increase spending and make the problem worse. This country has been run by a bunch of idiots for far too long (including Trump).

Child tax credit goes up, tax credits for first time home buyers, and cut taxes for those building homes for first time homebuyers, for example, are in the cards. Not to mention the removal of taxes on tips (or at least the lowering of tax rates on tips).
      As for debt, I’m more concerned about the supply chain and high demand aspect. That’s what is raising prices. Trump spent a ton of money before the pandemic and yet prices were fairly low. We need more oil refineries to lower gas prices and food/commodity prices (due to increased transportation prices). Doesn’t mean that there should be a $500 billion deficit every year, but we shouldn’t be so stingy to the point where we can’t take a risk and invest in critical areas such as eldercare and supporting of rural clinics via Medicaid.

      @@RealJackHQ A lot of assumptions in this comment. You're assuming I have children to claim that credit and that I am a first-time homebuyer. Given that neither of these currently apply to me, my taxes won't be cut. On top of that, these credits are applied at the end of the tax year for a potential refund. I don't want my money back at the end of the year, I want less taken out during the year.
      For the debt, we can't sustain a continuing deficit. Government expenditures need to be in line with tax revenue. I get they're trying to buy votes with programs like the ones Harris has proposed, but the government needs to stop finding ways to spend money they don't have.
      If you support these programs, maybe the Government should set-up a volunteer tax where people like you can opt in to fund these programs.

      @@kezmete Alright, hang on a second. Cuz I think you accidentally made some assumptions about me that aren’t true. I didn’t assume you had children. I’m saying it would help kids in general. It would reduce child poverty and thus put less strain on city and state services, which inevitably would help you. And plus, why does it matter when it’s applied? If you’re still getting thousands of dollars back regardless when it’s applied then….great! 👍 I mean that’s how I’d feel. If I could get $5,000 back now, or throughout the year, or at the end of the year, I’m happy either way.
      You’re right we have to pay off debt. But as long as the debt to GDP ratio is not widening year after year like it is in Venezuela or Zimbabwe then I’m not going to panic. I’m going to focus on investing in infrastructure first and have a mass clean up of our environment, along with the better support for seniors as it pertains to Social Security.
      And actually the government has set up the ability to donate to Social Security, which I have done before. Now, maybe what you assumed wrong is thinking that I’m going to be complacent to Harris not saying anything about it. No, I want her to speak out about it and make sure all her supporters give to it and not just to a political campaign.

    After having some really weird conversations with people on this video. I have a question for everybody. What percentage of the country do you think know how the country and government works? Because only about 1/4 of the country votes. Perhaps only 1/4 of that knows how important it is to vote up and down ballot. Trump has often said he loves uneducated people. He didn’t elaborate why, but I think we all know why. Because an uneducated person is a person who is easily fooled. After much conversation with certain people in the comment section, I have to believe that a lot of people don’t even understand how the country works or even government works. They think the vice president has just as much power as a president and they do not. The presidency is more a diplomatic role. You’re just standing around waiting to see if the president can finish his term or the vice president needs to step in. You don’t have the power to make a laws to change things all you really do is you serving a more diplomatic role where you have to do what the president says do pretty much. So that’s my two cents.

    Hey, she may not have addressed every economic area, but she did address a few in good detail, and she presented a basic comprehensive economic policy platform. I would’ve liked a little more detail, but at least she didn’t just fumble around in her pockets for 5 minutes and pull out Tic-Tacs and go “Look!…Tic-Tacs!😃 This is large size Tic-Tacs! And this is small size Tic-Tacs! Inflation! 🤷🏻‍♂️ That is all, thank you”. 🤭
    Also, there’s one more thing I’d like to point out about ‘Trump’s Speech On The Economy’ yesterday (yes, that’s what his campaign titled it). He said “More than 100% of the new jobs created under Biden went to illegal immigrants, way more than 100%”.
    🤦🏻‍♂️ Is that the person you want in charge of our economy, someone who doesn’t understand basic math!? For all intents and purposes, Trump just told America 1+1=3, at a friggin ECONOMIC speech, ffs!

    Stopping price gouging protects consumers by keeping prices fair during emergencies but can lead to shortages and reduced quality. Small businesses might face financial strain and tougher competition, impacting their sustainability.
    To effectively stop price gouging, set fair caps that prevent abuse without causing shortages or quality drops. Ensure transparent, flexible policies and support small businesses to adapt and stay competitive.
    To protect small businesses, consider:
    1. Financial Support: Offer grants or low-interest loans to help manage costs.
    2. Flexible Pricing Rules: Allow some leeway in pricing to cover costs without severe penalties.
    3. Subsidies: Provide subsidies for essential goods or services.
    4. Supply Chain Assistance: Aid in securing supplies at fair prices.
    5. Tax Relief: Implement temporary tax breaks or deferments.
    These measures can help small businesses cope with the pressures of price caps and remain competitive.

    It's fascinating-and a bit absurd-how the process works when governments need to 'borrow' money. They announce a need for funds, but instead of borrowing existing money, they turn to central banks, which simply print the money out of thin air. What's even more interesting is that these treasury bonds, which are supposed to represent a loan to the government, are often bought by the same central bank that just created the money. So, in essence, the government is borrowing money that didn’t exist moments before, from an institution that didn’t have it, to begin with. It’s a circular game of IOUs where the debt grows, but the underlying value doesn’t-just the illusion of it. This scheme keeps the wheels of the fiat system turning, but it also raises serious questions about the sustainability and integrity of the entire financial structure.
    Explain yourself Kamala, or any of the other corrupt candidates the fiat system selected for the public.

    I would like to suggest Cenk check out the MMT economic perspective. Taxpayers do not fund government spending, at least not in the way that it is typically portrayed in the media. When the government spends, it spends money into existence with keystrokes at the central bank. When it taxes, that money is essentially deleted, or removed from the economic playing field. The government then attempts to sell securities (bonds, etc) to make up the difference between spending and taxing (the deficit). But the federal government, crucially, does not need to sell those securities. In doing so, it is essentially offering a stable savings vehicle to the private sector. But being able to spend is not dependent on actually selling those securities. Fiat currencies, ie governments that issue their own money, do not function the same as households or even state governments.
    There is a vast systemic misunderstanding in the public discourse about how taxing and spending actually work. Bottom line, it doesn’t really make sense to ever claim that taxpayers are funding anything. And while we might should increase taxes on the wealthy for equity purposes, or to incentivize certain behaviors, the federal government doesn’t need their money to fund anything. All the years of doom and gloom about Social Security running out of money is either based on deep misunderstandings of how the system works, or outright obfuscations.
    The debt ceiling, similarly, is a purely arbitrary cap. And a dangerous one. The US can’t default unless it does so intentionally. The National Debt isn’t a statistic to fear, it’s not something we have to pay off some day.
    Instinctively, we all know some of the truth of this, since the government can always afford a new war.

If she and Walz are elected, the public and media need to hold their feet to the fire, and not let them back track on what they proposed while campaigning. Remember, during the 2020 campaign, Harris was initially in favor of Medicare-For-All, which she has since backed away from.

    The ironic thing is that Kamala would create price gouging in the housing market if her $25K first homeowner handout goes through.

    • @danpham333
      @danpham333 Před 24 dny

      That is not how it works, and you're just making up that scenario. It might increase a bit, but it won't increase by the same amount or more. Furthermore, if homeowners raise it by 25k which won't happen, it would not make it harder for the first time homebuyer to buy one bc it would be a net of zero anyways. it would just make it harder for private investors to buy up multiple homes because it would be more expensive. There are still also demand and supply factors that would prevent that. Although vague, she states she wants to prevent private investors from buying up homes in bulk too and selling at a premium. That would also bring down the price since it would expand the supply side of homes.

    • @ryandeffley7652
      @ryandeffley7652 Před 24 dny

      @danpham333 - No, it's basic common sense based on supply and demand.
      But in the end, she's "promising" things that need Congressional approval, and even mainstream media is admitting that it'd be a hard sell. So she's just telling people what they want to hear for votes.
      All I ask is that you use logic. If an economy is "strong," you don't have inflation that causes a cost of living crisis, a homeowner market crisis, or the need to offer endless debt relief and tax bailouts. All she's doing is confirming that people are struggling to pay off their own debt due to a weak economy.
