I remember people saying that Bolin and Mako aren't masters, I'm like really. They both are masters at not just their elements but also their sub elements.
If he could use the full extent of his bending and not have to worry about collateral damage he could probably defeat anyone in both series one-on-one except for an Avatar, a bloodbender, and maybe a few specific benders like Toph or a comet-enhanced Iroh or Ozai.
He did invent lava bending

In a way I thought they were cute together too but it's clear she liked him as friend. I think fans though to a certain degree were being a little hard on Korra, because even though she was wrong to make out with Mako, he still said he liked her and he never turned pushed her away and at least Korra immediately felt bad about it afterwards and apologized whereas Mako might well as have said "Your crush and I made out. Get over it " But yeah with Opal she didn't have any relationship or emotional baggage and wasn't a diva or a yandere so she was perfect for Bolin
Opal is best girl, period. Easily in all of Korra's era, in Aang's however... That has so many its incredibly, impossibly hard.

My favorite relationship of Bolin's is with Opal. It's not just because he gained experience from his other relationships, it's because Opal is the one who finally told him to be himself.

This is possibly his vow to never be tempted and tampered with by rusers again.
Toph, Suyin, Opal, and Kuvira...now THAT'S a powerful earthbending (plus an airbender) force to be reckoned with. Toph's relatives and adopted relatives really do live up to their Beifong surname. Gonna be honest, when I first watched Book 1, I was rooting for Borra. I thought they were a perfect match compared to Makorra. Strong, tough, caring, energetic, they had more in common

Surprised though that he never tried to ask Asami out she is way better looking than Ginger check 4:15 Asami in that dress....(she's talking to Bolin while he's kissing Ginger lol)....Well she did act like an older sister to him.....maybe that's why.......Sad moment when Bolin saw Mako and Korra kiss while holding flowers man that was brutal to watch.....But at least he found Opal...funny he found out about her thanks to Korra.
we learnt that two benders of different elements can create a subbending bender. For example fire and earth are mixed as lavabending(we were able to see it on boolin who had a earthbending father and a firebending mother) and air with water as cloud bending. So what could happen between air and earth.

I'm only on book 2 in the early season so far, but I like what Eska and Bolin could have been. Unfortunately their communication wasn't the best and as a result their relationship was unhealthy. But if they waited until they got older and Eska became less socially awkward, the two could have been cute !

Bolan interestingly is far different from Sokka.
While they both lift the spirit in team, Sokka never had any bending. The team rely on Sokka 24/7 to travel on the world and his instincts to decide what's best for the team. Sokka also has insecurity as the only non bender in the team.
Bolin however had a bending, and a special one that is (magma bending). While Bolin offer many comic relief, the team doesn't really rely on him to make a decision or plan.
Bolin is a great character and in fact, he is more amusing to watch than Mako in the series. But compared to Sokka, his character growth aren't that great as TLoK was rather short. Bolin character could've expanded greatly as he is the youngest in Team avatar.
