  • Which country offers the best education system in the world? If you mentioned the United States or the United Kingdom, you’ll be wrong.
    In today’s video, we bring you the 10 best education systems in the World and what other countries can learn from them. These countries have developed unique world class education systems that have driven innovation and economy growth.
    This ranking is according to the Global Competitiveness report by the World Economic Forum.
    The rank looks at the general level of skills of the workforce and the quantity and quality of education in each country. While the concept of educational quality is constantly evolving, important quality factors today include: developing digital literacy, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically and creatively.
    Scores are on a 0 to 100 scale, where 100 represent the optimal situation or 'frontier'.
    Canada and Australia tied up at 11th position with 81 points each. The United Kingdom followed at 13th positions with 80.2 points. So which countries are the top 10, you ask? Let’s find out.

    India had its own educational system until the British changed the traditional education system and introduced Mcaully education system. Now they call India's education poor. WOW.

    As a US Educator with 20 years experience I find it difficult to believe that the US ranks number 3 in the world.
    When you look at the percentage of students that actually graduate High School it varies greatly, and in some cities the graduation rate is only 60%.
    There are so factors that go into creating a quality education system anywhere. Unfortunately, in the US it largely depends on where you live, and the wealth of the community and state that you live in.
    If you live in a poor community, the education system is poor due to the lack of proper funding of the schools.
    That’s just the tip of the ice berg.

    The educational system in the US is only the best if you are wealthy and can afford to send your kids to the best schools. For the rest of the population, depending on the state in question, the educational level and system is way below most other Western countries. Very little public money is funded through to the schools that need it the most.

    So, to be honest, I am unsure how representative this video can be. I'm from germany and I can tell that giving germany a place just in the top 10 would have shocked me. But to see germany at 4, I can't express myself. Look, depression and stress levels of students in germany are sky high and rising. Most students go to school for 8 hours a day just to then make their homework in an additional 2 hours. There is lietrally no freetime. Before Covid-19 there was only a small amount of possibilities in which students could have evolved digital skills. Additionally, critical thinking is something that only really starts when you attend the Oberstufe (I think highschool would be a relatively good equivalent). Before that, most people go out of school without any will to think critically. Also, the fact that the states have different educational systems is really, let's say counterproductive. On a context based view, there isn't much a difference. On a formal base, there are only details which will make everyone wanting to study in a different state angry. Your diploma from one state is not accepted in three other because you should have had geography or another subject for three years. Boom - no university.
    I may be pretty harsh, but it's because people will get a false image of how good the german education system is. Of course, I go along with the assumption that states like finland or sweden are pretty good in this case. But please do not think that germanys education is even comparable to one of these

    • @thetea7852
      @thetea7852 Před 3 lety +14

      And not just that.
      Your favourite subject is mostly related to your favourite teacher, cause the teacher-student relation is very bad. Sometimes ur even afraid of the teacher.
      Sometimes people dont even have a "short day". They have school till 4 pm 5 times a week. I know a school where they study till 4:20. Not always with proper breaks. But the timetables are messed up anyway, espacially in the Oberstufe.
      Homework starts from secondary school, which is 5th grade, where students are around 10 years old.
      If u have depression or any problems you cant even homeschool cause its forbidden in germany and schools are bad in solving bullying and things.
      A lot of testing and pressure instead of real education.
      Lessons are mostly very dry and boring. No fun or playful at all.
      In the Abitur, where you supposed to choose your own subjects u cant choose anything and later on instead of encouragement theres only pressure. The "apology system" is messed up and in the final exam u dont even get a 2nd chance nowadays.
      A lot of people cant speak proper english or/and lack on maths after years of studying.
      And the worst. After primary school people get divided into 4 types of school, based on their grades. Gymnasium, Gesamtschule, Realschule and Hauptschule. It basically sets ur chances in the future and its rlly hard to go up a "rank". For example from Haupt to Realschule. Also it affects your self-confidence since u automatically feel more stupid when u are e.g. in a Hauptschule or Realschule. After primary school most people are 9 or 10 years old.

    • @MatmoeLP
      @MatmoeLP Před 3 lety +19

      @@thetea7852 You seem to be very biased because you know nothing different. If you've visited other countries in the past have you ever actually spoken with the locals about these things? For example you say that it's a bad thing that after primary school you are divided into 4 kinds of schools. In Germany if you turn out to be a good student after primary school but are in Hauptschule you can just do Werlrealschule after and even Fachgebhndenes Abitur after that. If getting put in Hauptschule messes up your self-confidence then that's not a problem of the school system but of your social environment and of how much support you've got in your upbringing. I've never felt more stupid than all students at a Gymnasium because nobody ever made me feel stupid for the kind of school I'm in. That is actually one of the strengths of the German system that no matter what graduation you have you can always build onto that.
      Just take me for an example. I've never been to a Gymnasium. I've done Realschule and Berufskolleg after. I've never had school in the afternoon more than 3 times a week. Still I was able to enroll for every University I want to (in my fed. state) because there is a specific exam you can take that allows you to do so.
      Compare that with the system in the UK. In the UK students get almost no individual attention at all and it's not possible to repeat grades if you're doing bad. Which results in the UK system being actually a system where it's almost impossible to redeem yourself if you get a little bit behind already in primary school. Also you say that lots of people don't speak proper English or suck at math. Have you ever been to Spain or France and tried to talk English with young people? You really have to try to find even one person who speaks fluent English. Germany, Netherlands and Skandinavia have probably by percentage the most adolescents in Europe who are actually fluent in english (except the UK and Ireland obviously). Saying that German students are bad at maths is ridiculous. How do you think Germany got a reputation of training the best engineers in the world when they suck at maths? If you've ever been to the UK you'd find that students there are so focused on literature that maths seem not at all important. In the UK you'll find more people who are able to recite Shakespeare than people who are able to calculate percentages or use the pythagorean theorem. Traits which are expected in many German workspaces.
      Another strong point of the German system is that apprenticeships are actually decently paid and have a good reputation. In most countries you're almost certainly deemed to be unsuccessful if you don't go to college or university. Because of that most students get pressured to do college or university even if that's not their thing. In Germany I've rather even seen the opposite where students are told by their families that an apprenticeship won't hurt you and you can still go to university after that if you want to. Germany has one of the lowest unemployment rates of young adults in Europe because of that.
      On some points you are right though. German schools suck at solving bullying cases. But to be fair no school system in all of Europe does a much better job with that.
      To be honest I didn't expect Germany to be in the top 5 but definitely in the top 10. I think only Scandinavia (including Iceland and Denmark), Switzerland and the Netherlands do as good or better in Europe.
      The point I'd rather argue about is the US being in the top 10. If you've ever spoken to Americans or American students you'd know that.
      Edit: oh and I'm very surprised to see no Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong or South Korea in the list.

You don’t need wealthy parents to pay your way through school. Common sense, critical thinking and learning to think for yourself is part of our educational system. I feel so blessed and grateful today that my American mother decided to stay in the Nordic countries with her Scandinavian kids (my dad was Danish) and that I did not have to face an American school system.

  • @spanishlessons4075
    @spanishlessons4075 Před 2 lety +4

    I am surprised to see the USA in 3rd place. Almost nobody here knows geography, most high school students don't even know the multiplication chart, and they have to use calculators. In the SAT, the students are given all the formulas that they will need to solve geometry problems. The grades do not really depend on what the students know but on what they complete on a daily basis. The classwork has more weight than the tests. The kids get to college without knowing the parts of a sentence properly. You can be an average student, but if you complete all the classwork and use your notes for the tests, you will end up with an A, which is the highest grade (A, A+). Many schools have a lot of substitute teachers because many teachers have left the education system. The American system flexes on monolingualism instead of multilingualism. Many kids that do not speak English are placed in all-English classrooms and are left there without the proper support; they have to either sink or swim. Many bilingual schools are bilingual in name only because they teach from a monolingual perspective. I know all this because I work in a school and because I served in different public schools as a substitute teacher before I got hired full-time. Here, we have a lot of foreign language teachers that are Americans and do not really speak the foreign language well. Sometimes, all you need to teach a foreign language is a minor in the language you want to teach. I have seen a lot of Spanish teachers that are not able to hold a real conversation in Spanish, but as long as they have the required licenses and endorsements for teaching, they are fine. That is what counts here. In a lot of bilingual schools, not even one member of the administration is bilingual, nor do they know anything about bilingual teaching and how the bilingual kids learn. This country is full of poor areas with many low-income families, whose kids even sell prohibited substances in the schools. Whoever said that the USA has one of the best education systems in the world needs to do more research.

    According to the results of studies (PISA-2018, TIMSS-2019, PIRLS-2011, ICILS-2013), based on the average score of students, the best school education systems in the world are:
    1. Singapore - 586 points
    2. China - 579 points
    3. Republic of Korea - 556 points
    4. Japan - 554 points

    - PIRLS - International Study of the Quality of Reading and Comprehension of Text
    - TIMSS - International Study of the Quality of Mathematics and Science Education
    - ICILS - International Study of Computer and Information Literacy
    TOP-10 in terms of the total number of gold medals at international olympiads in mathematics, physics and chemistry is as follows:
    1. China - 384
    2. Russia/USSR/CIS - 374 (237/133/4)

    Top 10 countries by number of weighted wins at international student olympiads:
    1. Russia - 61.35
    2. China - 27.88

Over the past 10 years, universities from Russia have won this Olympiad and once won a university from China.

    The placement of the US anywhere near a top 10 shows that the producers of this video have been heavily influenced by the USA.
    On PISA measures the US has been falling for decades. The US has created one of the most inequitable education systems in the world by creating a marketised system in which the rich get to put their children in elite schools while those of lower socio-economic standing are left to the crumbling, underfunded public system.
    The US also has a fascination with testing that is undermining of a love of lifelong learning for the majority of students.
