  • What does this house have to do with the Salem Witch Trials?
Located in Salem, Massachusetts, the Witch House is the last known surviving structure that is directly related to the Salem Witch Trials.
This structure is also known by its less sensational name, The Jonathan Corwin House.
Jonathan Corwin, was a wealthy merchant, who also served as a judge during the Salem Witch Trials. He was part of the crew that would ultimately sentence 19 people suspected of witchcraft to death.
Corwin had purchased this house in 1675 and lived here until his death in 1718.
During the time that the Corwin’s inhabited this house, it was believed that they were cursed as 8 family members including 6 of the Corwin’s children and Mr. and Mrs. Corwin themselves, died prematurely.
Obviously, illness was more than likely the cause for these untimely deaths, but it's spooky season so it’s fun to speculate!
Besides the Corwin House’s obvious historical significance, it’s also an excellent example of 17th century architecture from its steep front gables to its triple casement diamond paned windows and minimal decoration.
In 1944, the Corwin House was threatened to be torn down in order to enlarge North Street, however, a group of concerned citizens raised money to save it.
The house was relocated about 35 feet from where it originally sat and was opened as a museum in 1948.
    Tata! :)

@@bigdannyk2175 why anyone would want to see where that murderous, hate filled, serial committer of femicide ate or slept or most likely abused his wife and daughters… is beyond me… gross. Like making a nazi war criminals home a nice sweet historical tourist attraction…

That's a hot take, but it's not accurate. I'm descended from three victims and one of the judges was my uncle. Most of the accusations were leveled by tween girls, most likely prompted by adults.

@@bigdannyk2175I'm a descendant of victims and there's a lot of great history in Salem, but the kitschy witch garbage is a cynical money grab.

I'm descended from three victims and Samuel Sewall was my ggu. This was a good video about the Corwin House, but there two buildings directly connected to the hysteria that still exist. My ggm Rebecca Nurse's house still stands in Danvers and my ggf Joseph Capen's house is in Topsfield.
Rebecca was executed and Joseph was a minister who lost three of his parishioners to the hysteria.

Too fast. One can understand, but it's quite annoying. If you would talk normally, the video couldn't be so much longer though.
