This guy was a true master. I can't really find a way to express how humbled and inspired I am by these to videos. Thanks for sharing it.
Agreed.
Agreeable.
100%
Like watching an angel of weaving a pure melodic tapestry for the ears.
In heaven, Ted Greene is working out arrangements with Bach himself. They would love each other!
I saw Ted working on a Bach piece and he often didn’t like some of what Bach did and would change it. Lol. Prolly be some arguments
I think one of the most incredible things about this video is how he is talking while improvising. He is listening and responding to thoughts while expressing himself on the guitar. It's either multitasking at another level, or he's just practiced so much that it's like breathing to him.
If I didn't know any better, I would think Ted Greene had traveled ahead in time from the Baroque era, so that he could enlighten us in the ways that our beloved master composers might have thought, having picked their brains through a lifetime of study and practice. In the long run there are no shortcuts.
I can't tell how much I love these videos and Ted,s masterclasses,i must have heard them a multiple times n looking forward for more❤❤❤
It's an absolute crime that there isn't more footage and recordings of this brilliant musician, guitarist and educator that we can all enjoy and learn from.
Some of the phrases, i can't believe I'm hearing. Astounding genius .
This stuff is a lot harder to pick up and apply than the stuff in part 1, but damn its fun to try. Ted was just an awesome player and teacher. Hard not to get excited again about guitar after watching him play, and the infinite possibilities that exist.
What I wouldn't give for one more lesson. I miss him so much.
me too.
Me too
I was not at all interested in Baroque music and Ifelt that the piano was too rigid in this music. Ted Greene made me love Baroque music which sounds so good on his guitar, especially as telecaster is usually dedicated to rock or blues.
For this, and for many other reasons, Ted Greene is a giant.
Thanks to his memory.
It's because baroque music was not written for the piano. The piano was invented much later and its sound doesn't work well for baroque. The best modern rendition of those pieces is by classic guitar players.
" I fooled with it so much, cause I enjoy it". What a quote! MASTER, with capital letters.
Yep. It is the only way to go.
@@guitaryeti4040 yah but his thumbs were too small for correct tone so why not.... jk sorry bye now
I love you Ted.
And I miss you a lot.
Did you know him personally? He is inspiring.
Some brilliant guitarists make me want to give up when I hear them play. Ted isn't one of those players. Thank you for sharing this, it really is a window into the mind of a genius.
Yeah, Ted makes you want to reach for the Encylopedia of Chord Inversions book and PRACTICE!!
wow the minute I think I know anything about guitar or bach. then this.... wow...mind blown....
Thank you for posting! I can watch and learn from this forever! He is so perfect at revealing what he, {and Bach} are playing with. Gentle charicter and such a developed master! Thanks again.
Hey Whit!
I got back into this again recently. So thankful Steve recorded this on video. I have transcribed most of this video (as well as previously doing part 4 etc). I hope to bang out some videos on my channel and I've added the PDFs to my Patreon page. I think Ted greene website has my previous transcriptions. I find most lessons way too complicated so I'm focusing mostly on 2 lines (bass and melody) and sometimes the 3 note spread triads.
not only what buckethead said, but he alters his playing to show different possibilities in time with the questions/subject matter. he's beyond human.....
what a gift to guitar playing this man was. just astounding. Thanks Ted.
No words to describe this guy...
I love this guy so much.
Very instructive & good dialog too!
It's really great that people went to the trouble to video tape and preserve this stuff. Ted is brilliant.
What did I just watch. Ted, what a gift...
this is sick, true skills, RIP Ted Greene
i can't believe what i'm seeing
still wonder at the hands and to love that powers them
wonderful playing.RIP
these are the closest ill get to studying with this legend...thanks for the postings
amazing
czcams.com/video/6xXNORpbQpU/video.html That "never be afraid to ask a silly question" shake of his head after he said "forgive me if this is wrong" is such a nice Ted moment.
I don't listen to or enjoy this kind of music but this guy is an absolute master, and I actually 'get it' when he plays... My theory knowledge doesn't keep up with what he's explaining, but I hear it.
Where are Ted Greene's papers? He says -- yesterday was such a productive day he was *scared,* he simply had to stop and write it all down -- where's what he wrote down? This guy was a true musical genius, and his writings should be available and studied like...Bach's...
Check the ted green website lots of Bach baroque stuff on there
The Brian Wilson of the guitar. No peers
Once you get the classical vibe, you cant help but do it..
Haa watch me!!
I miss you dearly, Sifu Greene
anybody know the tune/recording at the very beginning?
♥♥♥
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Its all in the phrasing..
What does Ted say at 2:07? "Bass a lot with a (?????) melody"
I think he says "companion melody" but he's quiet during the first syllable "com". I may be wrong though
@@gander4872 I think you’re right! Thanks!
George’s book he said? What book is he talking about? Around minute7:19 and up.. someone knows ?
George’s books. I’m pretty sure he means George van Eps’ “Harmonic mechanisms for guitar, volume 1, 2 and 3”
What's album does the stuff at the begining come from
Ted Greene is rad.
what piece/recording is that in the intro?
What are the "George's books" that Ted is referring to at 7:21 ?
he is most likely referring to George Van Eps .There is one called "harmonic mechanisms for the guitar"
yes plz help
can someone tell me if ted greene owned or played acoustic guitars?
Guess not.
ted had some guitars wow wow wee wow BUT reasonably priced at the time
Can someone please transcribe this
At 7:23 Ted refers to “george’s books”. Does anyone know what books these might be?
George Van Eps
It's not Metheny. He's a great guitarist named Steve Herberman.
Homie is the literal reincarnation of Bach.
Some sheet of this improvisation?
Is Pat Matheney interviewing him?
jgl2222 Steve herberman
@jgl2222 *Matheny
@refundableparty george van eps
Man, that guy playing needs some lessons!!!!
You don't get to hear that much...when you are talking over Ted.
His great but i am to dumb to understand
what a pity for posterity that this was so poorly recorded. such a shame.
catandpiddle ya but we still have it.
Lol it was recorded in 90s
Who the Eff dislikes this? Lol
As much a genius as was Bach.
He should have gone on the keto fast diet. Maybe he live a bit long
No it's the fat that clogs the arteries (saturated fat and cholesterol). Gone way too soon!
wow the minute I think I know anything about guitar or bach. then this.... wow...mind blown....
