Steve, great coverage on these new devices as always. I have a ring doorbell pro with it subscription service to let me browse its history. One thing that’s never really clear, can I add one of the ring camera that you covered to my home and then will the monthly subscription increase? Thx!
As quickly as I got excited about the Echo Hub, I got over being excited about the Echo Hub. We've been using a Fire HD10 Tablet as our 'smart home center', and the Ring doorbell pops up live too. I bought the Fire Max 11 and love it so much, I think I'd rather replace the HD10 with another Fire Max 11 instead of the Echo Hub. Like others-I have concerns of it turning ad centric like the Echo Shows have become.
I was really excited about the Echo Hub but, then this morning I asked Alexa for my news and she launched a commercial instead. I really want a virtual assistant that isn't trying to sell me something every 5 minutes. I'm seriously thinking about selling all my Amazon devices.
I have now ditched an echo 8 show (which sat on my kitchen countertop) because it became impossible to get rid of ads. You can "unselect" categories that include ads for the home screen, but Amazon magically adds a new category every week that is automatically selected to be shown. I fought it for months, then replaced it with a regular echo, which sucks because we used the show primarily as a hands free kitchen timer.
Well, if some adds are really that annoying to you that you decided it was worth it to sacrifice the other useful functions of it. I mean, if it didn't have ads, you would be paying at least 5x the price plus a dedicated subscription. Would you prefer that?
I got the echo with the clock face, which shows the kitchen timer in action.
@@tibbified5x the price? That may be true for the Echo Dot but devices like the Show 8 are already expensive enough to pay for themselves.
1:00 This sounds like the Roku speakers that came out a few years ago that wirelessly connected to you Roku tv but did not have a Roku built in and couldn’t be used with anything else.
i love the sound of the new Echo Hub, but am deeply concerned it'll just become overwhelmed with Alexa Tips and other ads like the current Echo Shows..
That's a good point. I'm starting to see more and more ads on my Echo Show 10.
I had one of those firetv boxes and the ads got so much I junked it and got an appletv instead, feels better now. My wife got me a echo show for my side of the bed, I swear I have my own personal billboard, even after I selected no ads etc. I'm about ready to junk that too.
Continue to make use of Home Assistant on my own hardware, all local, secure, community supported, no ads, accessible and extendable the way I want it to be or go with vendor lock-in and be at the mercy of a vendor known for adding charges to everything. Difficult choice, will need to think about it.

Is there a device that has a screen that can link to the echo show and be used in the car for a calendar?
The Hub is probably the most exciting thing. I don't think people get it. AS LONG AS IT ISN'T SLOW. This can go in every room of the house on the wall. As an installer, this would be rad for new construction. I would even have them in the same room with other Show devices. I would not plan on using it for the microphone and speaker experience, but mostly for a physical interface. Then, use the other devices for audio and a video. A good touch interface has been the biggest thing lacking from Alexa. This will hopefully be awesome.
Except Amazon finds a way to push ads to these devices making them obnoxious.
@@DavidMoncriefbut would that matter if it's just sitting up on a wall. You wouldn't even see the ad, right? I'm asking because idk. I don't use any show products so I really don't know
Totally agree - the Hub seems to be an Echo Show without decent speakers - and it‘s more expensive. You get less for more $$$ - just because of a different UI 😮
It's also about the mounting system and hopefully having the hardware for it to be It's intended purpose.

A lot of nice new things that I like! But why make the soundbar as a Fire TV-accesorie and without Alexa built in to it? Really seems like a missed opportunity here to me!
I hope it can at least be a networked speaker for the Fire TV (in the same manner as the Echo or Echo Dot)

I have a question for you. I have connected multiple alexa devices and I have problem with the voice command. When I tell alexa to turn on light 1 or light 2. It is turning on the light 1 or light 2 from other rooms. Hw cn I get rid of these thing?
I want to use same command for all the rooms

With the Hub where it has camera delay is going to be a main issuse for me. I was so disappointed that theres like a 15second delay with my door bell camera
With the Ring it has that much of a delay?
I was hoping the new firesticks would be coming with the new pro remote but obviously they want us to pay extra for that, nothing new there then.
Beware anytime you return Amazon item, save your receipts for at least 90 days or take picture and save that. As Amazon will wait like 60 days and tell you they didn’t receive the return, knowing you probably don’t have proof of return! This happened to my cousin who I am writing for as he cancelled his Amazon and does not have Facebook. He immediately returned something at a UPS store and after about 2 Months they said they didn’t receive item and would charge him. He will of course dispute with credit card company but be aware…. this should be a class action lawsuit in the future.
Good point about the Show 15. I really hope they do bring that interface to it, considering what we all paid for them and what we expected.
I just upgraded on a trade-in from echo show 8 1st gen, to echo show 8 2nd gen. And it has some problems. Sometimes it stops listening and also keeps listening and wont answer questions. Other most annoying is the video call quality is bad. 1st gen was great. 2nd gen at my same house and network, pixilates, smears, sound smears too and becomes unclear. I have yet to have a decent video call. I turned off camera follow as it was constantly hunting and moving around the screen. I don't know how to fix what they broke, I think the device software is an issue? IT IS UPGRADED to latest version on that. If you dont make video calls it is just ok, if you make video calls, avoid it, or dont expect anything nice.
My current show has the camera in the center.
The more I hear about how these A.I's are becoming more intuitive and how having conversations with them is becoming more of a thing, I can't help but think about a series of movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. You know, the ones with the killer robots? Yeah that's right, Terminator.
Why would they not support blink doing the same thing , is that not a Amazon brand ?
It is an azon brand. I have my blink connected to my echo 5 via the Alexa app. I set it up as a routine. Everytime someone is at the door it pops up on my screen.

Never buying another Blink device, terrible battery life, bad detection that is capturing trees moving in the wind, and the sync module goes out and takes hours to reset. Bought a Eufy, got a window mount and it's my main security cam no batteries or sync module, plugged into a power outlet, has pet or people detection no false alerts, no zones. I did turn off the nightvision because of the window reflection but I have outdoor lights that capture images at night.

Amazon has a serious problem with its Alexa software. I dont see the arrival of Panoz changing anything on that knowing he is a hardware guy. Its a shame, but even Google Home now looks better than Alexa on ANY of amazon's screens
But Alexa is still miles ahead in what it can do. Alexa just needs to offer some premium products in a pro line or something. But then people already think that some of them are too expensive because they are ignorant as to what this kind of stuff actually costs.
