    Shohei is great at both. First time in history to be the starting pitcher and lead off batter in the all stars game

    The 2 clips starting at 1:08 of him striking out a batter and then hitting a home run happened about 10 minutes apart in real life, in the top/bottom of the 1st inning in that game. This year he's recorded the hardest-hit ball by a left-handed hitter since we've started tracking and is currently leading all of baseball in home runs, XBH, Slugging%, all while being a dominant pitcher on the mound as well. When opposing batters swing at his splitter, they miss over half the time. He would already be one of the best players in baseball if he was just a hitter, or just a pitcher, because he's so good at either one, but somehow he is able to actually do both at the same time, at the same level. People compare him to Babe Ruth, but right now Ohtani is doing more than Babe Ruth ever did in a single season, by both hitting and pitching at an elite level against a much higher level of competition (in the 1920s, baseball was still very much segregated and modern training techniques weren't a thing). Sorry to ramble, but this dude is something that, 10 years ago, nobody thought was possible. Major League Baseball for Shohei Ohtani is like high school baseball was for every other big leaguer.

    He does it both, he does it ALL ! Shohei is the most electric athlete in sports at the moment.

    ALL pitchers in the National League have to pitch and hit, but most of them can't hit to save their own lives. The American League uses Designated Hitters to hit for the pitcher every time his position comes up to bat, but Ohtani forgoes the DH to hit for himself. He is a starting pitcher, so he only pitches about every five games (depending on the rotation the Angels use). But he plays the DH position when he is not pitching, so he plays every game. Many believe him to be the best hitting pitcher since Babe Ruth (Ruth stopped pitching after he joined the Yankees in order to prolong his career).

    • @eyebeebak
      @eyebeebak Před 3 lety +2

      Yankees didn't allow Ruth to pitch and hit. He had to choose one or the other. The same reason Ohtani signed with the Angels. Yankees chased him but made him chose hit or pitch, not both.

  • @NolmDirtyDan
    @NolmDirtyDan Před 3 lety +6

    If strike 3 hits the dirt or the catcher drops the ball, its called a dropped third strike, where the batter gets to run to first, so you can essentially strike out and still get to first base if they don't get you out

    He can also bunt singles with elite speed. He seems to be a hybrid player of Ichiro, Matsui and Darvish.

    Ohtani is 27 years old and played in Japan professionally from 2013-2017. In MLB he was the 2018 American League Rookie of the Year. His physique, batting stance and swing are much more "American " than the typical Japanese player, who is usually smaller in stature (see Ichiro). The thing about Ohtani is not only is he pitching and hitting, he is doing so at a high level. He can reach 98-100 mph when he pitches and he is hitting home runs 450-460-470 feet. Currently he leads MLB with 35 home runs.
    More baseball please. Check out Fernando Tatis Jr next.

  • @Cynthionic
    @Cynthionic Před 3 lety +4

    the thing with ohtani is that no one has started every 5 days as a pitcher, and played in the lineup everyday as a hitter, like ever, ohtanis comparisons are guys from 1920 and earlier, but not only is he doing both, hes excelling at both, he leads the league in homeruns, and is dominant on the mound, if he keeps this up there is basically no way he doesn't win mvp, because he is basically two great players packaged into 1

    • @SquidCentauri
      @SquidCentauri  Před 3 lety

      Does it change the game a bit, you think? Like. Will we see more players allowed to play a lot (less players excessively rested etc), or nah?

    • @Cynthionic
      @Cynthionic Před 3 lety +3

      @@SquidCentauri teams have already positioned toward letting some of their prospects or young players try out pitching maybe out of the bullpen and hitting, but it remains that ohtani is special, no one can do what he does, but I think teams will try to develop players who can do what he does to a lesser extent

    Ohtani pitches once every 5 to 6 days like a normal starting pitcher, but he plays DH on the games in between pitching. DH is the designated hitter, it it the position that bats instead of your pitcher, on days where he pitches, the team elects to not use a DH so he gets to hit for himself. The Dh is only in the American league

    When Shohei was looking to come over from Japan and play in the MLB every organization was wanted him and offered him a contract. Not only was he voted into the All Star Game this year he was chosen by the manager of the American League team to be the starting pitcher. After he pitched a shutout inning he was also the lead off hitter in that game for the AL. The day before participated in the home run derby.

    He's the only one in over 100 years to do what he's doing. He's pretty assired a top 10 in the league in both hitting and pitching. Only other person to do it was Babe Ruth but, if you really look at it Babe Ruth only pitched and batted for a few years then he was a fielder and turned into the home run king. That's where he dwarfed his competitors sometimes having more home runs him self in a season then some other ball clubs. That was called "The dead ball era"

    Oh you will have to see him play. You'll see why everyone is going crazy over Shohei Ohtani. He really is the real deal. He's got 37 homeruns now. Leading both leagues in MLB. As of now, he's in the top 5, as a pitcher and hitter. Baseball has become fun and exciting to watch again, at least for me. Search Shohei Ohtani on youtube for more.... -:)

      The whole point of my REACTION channel is that I don't know what I'm talking about and am REACTING for the first time to what I see.
      If you think you're the one who has to inform people of that, I think you're a bit slow on the uptake pal. Everyone (apparently except you) was aware already.

    • @ccramit
      @ccramit Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the point. It's the reason he says things like, "If I'm wrong, let me know in the comments." It's kind of a shit video if he's reacting to shit he's seen 100 times before.
      "Hey, watch me react to my own photos I've uploaded to facebook" is kind of a stupid idea, don't you think?
