  • Chopping Corn Silage & Pumping Cow Manure near Greensburg Indiana - Hulbosch Dairy
    In this video I am out at Hulsbosch Dairy farm near Greensburg Indiana as they chop corn silage and build a silage pile that will be used to feed their dairy cow herd over the next year.
    They have a lot going on in this video. They are running two Claas Jaguar 970 self propelled forage harvesters in different fields with a mix of different brand tractors and silage trailers. Back at the farm at the silage pile they are running 6 different 4WD articulated tractors to push and pack the pile.
    The farm is also busy pumping out the manure lagoons at the farm and drag lining the manure on the harvested corn fields that will be used as fertilizer for next years crop.

    Even though it has been 55 years since the family made silage, it still brings back memories. There is something about silage videos that bring back smell memories.

      My uncle always got the fields tested after we got corn done. Sometimes it wasn’t leached of nutrients, so we didn’t spread manure. Those fields might be okay.

    There is a family dairy near Dalhart that you could see for miles. I doubt you could video. I am thinking it would be the largest in the US or close after current expansion. To utilize the milk they have a large cheese factory.

    Mike, is it more cost effictive dragging all that hose compared to a tank? Great video!

    • @garymurt9112
      @garymurt9112 Před 10 měsíci +1

      It would depend on the situation, on this operation where they are pumping what looks to be millions of gallons in the application window, you would need a lot of tanks and that many more people hauling from the lagoon to the application, on smaller operations you could probably do tanks or if you had a large enough application window.

    How many tons of siledge are those trailers carring? Also the trailers have three axles with really large tires. Do the tires on the front axle turn with the tractor?? Or am I just seeing things.

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I'll have to see if I can find out. I suppose a lot of it would depend on the field size as they have some pretty big fields and some smaller patches.
