Me and my friends did a challenge to sink them with no cannonballs. It worked because we somehow got 6 stronghold gun powder barrels. I forget how. Because we did no fort

@Old Buccaneer with skeleton ships what I find hard is trying to steer, fire cannons, eat food, lag, fixing thousands of holes, bucket water out AND putting out fire especially when you weren't expecting them HOW DO YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY???
@@capz7463 stay in a turn, change sail heights and move your wheel across the center lock position. You can get them off balance for time to repair or finish sinking them.

My meta for soloing these is loot your spawn outpost and then find the floating barrels below the buzzards that are always in the skelly fleet area which give good resources, you need about 130 cannonballs and 40 wood to be comfortable, I raise sails and sit still aswell, it sounds crazy but it makes things more manageable. the first 2 waves of ships wont shoot you as much where the final wave can almost be unbearable. Hit lower deck holes and you can sink galions in 10 perfect lower deck cannon shots. Sloops tend to shoot more cannonballs where the galions shoot more fire.
I used to do this solo with stock supplies, haven’t done it since the fire update since I got my 500 but basically I ram one ship, shoot the second, bail on the rammed while I shoot. Did that every time and it worked, except for megs. I rarely repaired during the fight since the more water the faster you sink them
Absolutely, ramming is a really good technique. I have sunk plenty of ships with just bailing. The fire addition actually makes the fight easier. Fire does very little damage so you repair less! Also you don't die instantly if a firebomb hits you in the face.
I did solo this one time before and i had 0 cannonballs left and it was the 2 last galleons left to kill but they crashed into eachother and both sunk lmao

I find fighting any ai enemy, kraken, sharks, skeletons etc. Defence is just as important as offence. Don’t be afraid to get off your cannons to bail or board the ship. Keep calm and carry on

Very good advice, I been playing since day 1 and tried for the first time to fight in this event Failed like you said I did exactly what you said most player don't do. Bring enough resources and when I realized this I had to bail ASAP. Now watching this and taking your advice I should be able to do a lot better this time around. Excellent video. Most youtubers play so much that they are gods in PVP or boarding or whatever and their how-to stuff basically just says "git gud". I've been known to hop onto the Skelly Ships when they ram to grab extra cannonballs when we've run out. If you kill the Skelly Captain's ship before the other one you can sometimes harpoon the booty on onboard between fighting.

My Galleon crew had just defeated two Ghost-Galleons, we had about 4 Ritual Skulls and like 6 Skeleton Captain Chests. Coming up to an outpost, the water goes black and an enemy Ghost-Galleon spawns and sinks our ship. 😎
MorphikNull me and two friends did the fort of the damned, and fought off two sloops, a brig, two skeleton sloops, a megalodon (which glitched onto the island for some reason), and then as we were heading to sell a skeleton galleon showed up and i had to constantly bail as we had no wood left
You forgot about the DR. The first one I ever did was there and the volcanoes played a huge part in the outcome. Once, both my friend and I died, when we got back we were one bucket away from sinking.
You are correct. I did have a small segment about the DR but removed it, I felt the video was pretty long as is. TBH, both the DR skeleton fleet and the ashen fort just aren't worth the extra effort. You get the same treasure but have to sail 2x as far and deal with volcanoes. If they were double treasure, then that would be absolutely worth it.
Myself and 3 of my friends just bought this game half priced last night. I have been watching videos all day waiting for them to get off work to play, and ran across this one. Great video man, I think this is gonna be fun once we learn what we are doing.
@@OldBuccaneer The money spent on this turned into a great buy. We had a ball. It started off expectantly slow, but worth the time. To make a long story short, it ended with us dying because someone detonated a gunpowder keg on our rowboat...over a guinea pig! Very entertaining..
One time I was on a galleon with some friends and we did not come prepared. Everyone had run out of cannonballs. So what happened was that at any time at least one of us was steering and putting out fires while the other three would steal the skeletons cannonballs and be attacking their gunners. I was left on the Ship and while I was repairing and the Ship got caught between two rocks. The skeleton ship was also stuck and another rock blocked them from firing, but we had a straight shot. Eventually they got unstuck and our ship just randomly turned upside down and respawned at an island near by. When we got there we sank the Ship and then another two spawned and got stuck in the exact same place. And With our newly stocked ship we weighed anchor right next to them and fired at them while they were at the rocks. They mostly used only firebombs but hit the bottom deck which we purposefully left a bit full. So eventually we sunk them and the last ship spawned and somehow with a combination of boarding and firing cannons we sunk it even though our anchor was weighed and they were circling us.
Wow! Your tutorial was actually really solid! Clear, precise and a little bit of cheeky! You Sir have earned yourself a sub! Also, in my own testing, I’ve found that Skelly ships can’t handle storms. Since they can’t empty water, they sink. 😜

My husband and i just did this with a normal fleet during the event, i couldnt believe we actually did it with the buff on the skelly sloops now. We ended up stopping at a fort, loading up, then grabbing 5 gun powder barrels, one for each ship. The sloops were done with zero cannon balls, the gallys were a little bit harder, we only took about 100 balls and 75 wood, and yes we cut it really really really close, ended up with 9 cannon balls and 3 wood, if someone decided to attack us after then we wouldve been screwed! 200+ balls and 100+ wood, and 75-80 pieces of fruit, thats about what you need for this challenge! It was really really worth it!
This really helped I accidentally went into a fleet and used this advice and easily beat them, the rock tactic and the bail onto they’re ship tactic really helped thanks!
Chainshots do nothing, blunderbombs will kill skeles and push the ship around a little. Generally I just saved them for player ships. Same with firebombs
Booooooom! Subbed and bought the game! I was worried about getting wrecked as a solo player. You showed me that I can handle fleets by myself with some planning
When i did a skelly fleet, me and my friend has 172 cannonball and 104 wood, since it was 2 of us it was obviously a sloop, we had 51 wood at the end but at the very end we ran out of cannonballs, we resulted to harpooning the skelly captain and rammed him into rocks, that was the best thing to do in that situation, we won the battle by RAMMING THEM INTO ROCKS, that proves how effective that is
Good advice here mate. Though, if you don't intend to do it alone, kegs are HIGHLY effective. keep them on the mast for no risk of explosion (honestly, I rarely if not never see skeleton boats use fire), go contact with a galleon and leave someone on it while you sail away and repair. If you put a powder keg just after the first stairs on a galleon, you literally one shot it. So you can avoid wasting dozens of canonballs. You can also kill the surface skeletons while the boat sinks, so it does not attack your ship.
Great vid and thanks for the tips. Just be mindful of the kraken after the battle finishes. When there's no fleet or fort cloud in the sky the kraken is active.
Agreed.. in fact that happened to me last night after finishing the fleet. I had the kraken, a Meg and another skeleton sloop attack. Getting all the treasure was a little stressful

Just started playing yesterday. Bought an xbox just for this game. So confused but having fun. Im nowhere near ready to tackle this but it gave me alot of good tips! Ill make sure im stocked up at all times in case of emergencies
These days I use Solo-Brig with only back sail against Skelly-Gallies. For the Sloops I basically pull up both or use only 1/4th of the back sail. Putting the back sail up and down its most of the time possible to out-maneauver the Skelly ships. Using the Brig gets also a 0:0 on the speed vs another brig and an advantage versus the other two player ships when dealing with them. Normally I loot twice at start and then later on the Skelly-Sloops or from the water. Sometimes a friend joins. Once I got a comment like "living on the edge" due to my looting situation. =) Sticking to the rocks, best in every situation. Keeps Skelly ships, Meggies and players away from you. Harpoons are underused by many players. The turning space of all ships is near 0 even wehen going full brig speed (well you got to be near a rock ofc).
Did it with a brig, no cannon balls but luckily had lots of planks. Let bottom deck have about 1/4 water, no need to worry about the fire and just jump ships when it gets close and steal their cannon balls, go back to your ship fire them and wait for them to stop firing back at you so you can jump ship again

I already have my friend!! I beat 3 gallons and 1 sloop. I let the megalodon do some of the work for me! My driving drove them so crazy that they were shooting each others ships!
Hey Bucc! This is a fairly old video so you might know by now, but at around 3:30 when you switch projectiles you can actually hold Q and it brings up a radial instead of going into your inventory, Just thought I would let you know.
Yep, thanks!! I still sometimes revert back to the old non wheel way. Just muscle memory. I think the radial wheel was still fairly new when I made this so I was still transitioning
2 mates and i had a fun encounter with them once, 3 skeleton galleans, a kraken, 2 other player galleans, whilst on a brigate going to sell a reapers bounty. That was quite the experience also super helpful vid made perfectly!
The best trick I found to get this done is to hang around the edges of the encounter and try to get one ship stuck chasing you in a loop. With a little practice, you can get it so that you can shoot the skele ships and they can't get the angle to hit you back while chasing

Nice vid. I solo most of the time and have sunk a good number of skeleton fleets. 1st time I soloed and ashen fleet was by accident, didn't realize I sailed to close to the area. But another tactic one can use when they're low on supplies is the ram and bail. Ram them head on, lock up with them, and bail water on their ship. Or as I like to call it the Greek way. Good vid though. I subbed.
I actually did this a few hours ago (this morning) using all the tactics in this video, but without watching the video. I used the rocks, brought lots of canon balls and wood, and sank every wave. I didn't think I could do it. It was kind of cool to be able to. I disagree about the fire bombs. Enough of them will put a skele ship on the defensive.
Pepper that lower deck with cannons and then harpoon to pull up right next to the gallion. The cannons sit up so high they very rarely get the right waves to get a shot off. Then I just hop on their ship and fire bomb the mid and upper deck. They can't put out fires or bucket water out. Plus the fire spreads from one skelly to another just like with players when they get too close to eachother, which happens a lot. I'm a little over a month in and just solo'd the ghost ship event for the first time yesterday. Pretty stressful solo and I had some real noobie moments smacking into rocks the ghost ships don't have to worry about but it's great practice for managing repairs and angle and position relative to the fleet. A month ago the skelly sloop sank me... and I yelled at their ship as mine sank because I thought it was a player. lol
Fire can be useful if you shoot the cannons although it will be put out I find that it can take them long enough to repair your ship or put holes I the other ship
You can also miss them a lot if you are not in the mood to fight to scare them of and they will go back underwater and drop loot! It works I done it with my friends
I just tried this with 2 of my friends. We got to the last wave with one galleon left. But then a galleon with players interruptet us and just when we where about to sink them they just shat on us we were all frustratet but it was really fun.
Bit of a dramatic video, actually this is very simple with the Ashen fleet. Skeletons crews were once quite challenging when they constantly hit with cannonballs (not fire) and never missed.
I went through and did a regular skeleton fleet by accident. My first one too, and I got MAD lucky! I was just doing a regular cargo run and then all of a sudden a message pops up saying "Battle for the Sea of Thieves" Confused as hell. I just prepared for battle I got a single sloop on wave 1 and 2. and a single Galleon on wave 3. If i had gotten 2 galleons at all during this event, I would have been done. because that one gall took a long time. Nearly ran out of Supplies, but ultimately it was def worth! got way more gold that what theose measly cargo runs were gonna give me
The last time we did this challenge, on a sloop, the game changed servers right after we destroyed the last ship. Surprise, we only got about a quarter of the treasure you normally get as a result. Bummer. The challenge is great fun though, I hope they keep it in the game.
Sorry to hear about the server change. I have had the same thing happen when I lost an entire ship worth of treasure that was stored on an island. As for the fleet, it will be sticking around 😁
Thanks for the guide now I know how to deal with the skelly fleet 😁 Me and my friends just did the skelly fleet earlier we we're on a brig we nearly completed it we were on the last wave but we run out of supply and we fought them in open water and got obliterated. Hold down Q key (Item Radial) to select cursed cannons/firebombs etc Dont open your inventory to select it.

And With our newly stocked ship we weighed anchor right next to them and fired at them while they were at the rocks. They mostly used only firebombs but hit the bottom deck which we purposefully left a bit full. So eventually we sunk them and the last ship spawned and somehow with a combination of boarding and firing cannons we sunk it even though our anchor was weighed and they were circling us.

My husband and i just did this with a normal fleet during the event, i couldnt believe we actually did it with the buff on the skelly sloops now. We ended up stopping at a fort, loading up, then grabbing 5 gun powder barrels, one for each ship. The sloops were done with zero cannon balls, the gallys were a little bit harder, we only took about 100 balls and 75 wood, and yes we cut it really really really close, ended up with 9 cannon balls and 3 wood, if someone decided to attack us after then we wouldve been screwed! 200+ balls and 100+ wood, and 75-80 pieces of fruit, thats about what you need for this challenge! It was really really worth it!

Old Buccaneer I have a question, are chainshots and blunderbombs effective agains fleets?
Chainshots do nothing, blunderbombs will kill skeles and push the ship around a little. Generally I just saved them for player ships. Same with firebombs

Just do these tactics with a friend and you’re golden.
When i did a skelly fleet, me and my friend has 172 cannonball and 104 wood, since it was 2 of us it was obviously a sloop, we had 51 wood at the end but at the very end we ran out of cannonballs, we resulted to harpooning the skelly captain and rammed him into rocks, that was the best thing to do in that situation, we won the battle by RAMMING THEM INTO ROCKS, that proves how effective that is

If your in a sloop you have a small enough turning circle that you can just continually ram the boats.

Good advice here mate. Though, if you don't intend to do it alone, kegs are HIGHLY effective. keep them on the mast for no risk of explosion (honestly, I rarely if not never see skeleton boats use fire), go contact with a galleon and leave someone on it while you sail away and repair. If you put a powder keg just after the first stairs on a galleon, you literally one shot it. So you can avoid wasting dozens of canonballs. You can also kill the surface skeletons while the boat sinks, so it does not attack your ship.
Rare removed the fire feel the skele ships. I'm not sure why. It is good for kegs though!

Agreed.. in fact that happened to me last night after finishing the fleet. I had the kraken, a Meg and another skeleton sloop attack. Getting all the treasure was a little stressful
If you're actually along in a sloop. Juat stay next to big rock. So when the skele ship goes around the rock, you have time to repair.

These days I use Solo-Brig with only back sail against Skelly-Gallies. For the Sloops I basically pull up both or use only 1/4th of the back sail.
Putting the back sail up and down its most of the time possible to out-maneauver the Skelly ships.
Using the Brig gets also a 0:0 on the speed vs another brig and an advantage versus the other two player ships when dealing with them.
Normally I loot twice at start and then later on the Skelly-Sloops or from the water.
Sometimes a friend joins. Once I got a comment like "living on the edge" due to my looting situation. =)
Sticking to the rocks, best in every situation. Keeps Skelly ships, Meggies and players away from you. Harpoons are underused by many players. The turning space of all ships is near 0 even wehen going full brig speed (well you got to be near a rock ofc).
Did it with a brig, no cannon balls but luckily had lots of planks. Let bottom deck have about 1/4 water, no need to worry about the fire and just jump ships when it gets close and steal their cannon balls, go back to your ship fire them and wait for them to stop firing back at you so you can jump ship again

Hey Bucc! This is a fairly old video so you might know by now, but at around 3:30 when you switch projectiles you can actually hold Q and it brings up a radial instead of going into your inventory, Just thought I would let you know.
Yep, thanks!! I still sometimes revert back to the old non wheel way. Just muscle memory. I think the radial wheel was still fairly new when I made this so I was still transitioning
2 mates and i had a fun encounter with them once, 3 skeleton galleans, a kraken, 2 other player galleans, whilst on a brigate going to sell a reapers bounty. That was quite the experience

The best trick I found to get this done is to hang around the edges of the encounter and try to get one ship stuck chasing you in a loop. With a little practice, you can get it so that you can shoot the skele ships and they can't get the angle to hit you back while chasing

Nice vid. I solo most of the time and have sunk a good number of skeleton fleets. 1st time I soloed and ashen fleet was by accident, didn't realize I sailed to close to the area. But another tactic one can use when they're low on supplies is the ram and bail. Ram them head on, lock up with them, and bail water on their ship. Or as I like to call it the Greek way. Good vid though. I subbed.

I actually did this a few hours ago (this morning) using all the tactics in this video, but without watching the video. I used the rocks, brought lots of canon balls and wood, and sank every wave. I didn't think I could do it. It was kind of cool to be able to. I disagree about the fire bombs. Enough of them will put a skele ship on the defensive.

Pepper that lower deck with cannons and then harpoon to pull up right next to the gallion. The cannons sit up so high they very rarely get the right waves to get a shot off. Then I just hop on their ship and fire bomb the mid and upper deck. They can't put out fires or bucket water out. Plus the fire spreads from one skelly to another just like with players when they get too close to eachother, which happens a lot. I'm a little over a month in and just solo'd the ghost ship event for the first time yesterday. Pretty stressful solo and I had some real noobie moments smacking into rocks the ghost ships don't have to worry about but it's great practice for managing repairs and angle and position relative to the fleet.
A month ago the skelly sloop sank me... and I yelled at their ship as mine sank because I thought it was a player. lol
Fire can be useful if you shoot the cannons although it will be put out I find that it can take them long enough to repair your ship or put holes I the other ship
You can also miss them a lot if you are not in the mood to fight to scare them of and they will go back underwater and drop loot! It works I done it with my friends

I just tried this with 2 of my friends. We got to the last wave with one galleon left. But then a galleon with players interruptet us and just when we where about to sink them they just shat on us we were all frustratet but it was really fun.
Bit of a dramatic video, actually this is very simple with the Ashen fleet. Skeletons crews were once quite challenging when they constantly hit with cannonballs (not fire) and never missed.
Agreed, fire in some aspects actually made this fight easier
I went through and did a regular skeleton fleet by accident. My first one too, and I got MAD lucky!
I was just doing a regular cargo run and then all of a sudden a message pops up saying "Battle for the Sea of Thieves"
Confused as hell. I just prepared for battle I got a single sloop on wave 1 and 2. and a single Galleon on wave 3. If i had gotten 2 galleons at all during this event, I would have been done. because that one gall took a long time. Nearly ran out of Supplies, but ultimately it was def worth! got way more gold that what theose measly cargo runs were gonna give me
The last time we did this challenge, on a sloop, the game changed servers right after we destroyed the last ship. Surprise, we only got about a quarter of the treasure you normally get as a result. Bummer. The challenge is great fun though, I hope they keep it in the game.
Sorry to hear about the server change. I have had the same thing happen when I lost an entire ship worth of treasure that was stored on an island. As for the fleet, it will be sticking around 😁

Me and my friends just did the skelly fleet earlier we we're on a brig we nearly completed it we were on the last wave but we run out of supply and we fought them in open water and got obliterated. I'm going to try use this guide to kill the skellys and hopefully It will work .
