  • The market town of Skipton lies in a vale at the foot of Rombalds Moor and dubs itself 'The Gateway to the Dales'. Although there is evidence of early man - there are cup and rings tones on the moor, it was laregely by-passed by the Romans, who had a villa nearby at Gargrave. Skipton, the name means sheep town, is mentioned in the Domesday Book and really comes to life after the Norman invasion of 1066. The castle and parish church (Holy Trinity) both date from the 12th century. This film forms part of a history of the town - check out the others on the Channel!
