Nice to meet you, Doctor Big Band.
I don't know if you are joking or not. But I can inform you all, that DR stands for Danmarks Radio. DR is the national TV and Radio broadcaster, exactly like BBC.
Anyone know if and where we can purchase this chart?
Fuck hvor det svinger 🎷🎶🥁
PS! Written by Jim McNeely, old teacher of Adam Neely (great bass/jazz youtuber - look him up), and former leader of the DR Big Band (Jim McNeely that is, though I would absolutely love to see a concert with Adam Neely as the conductor of The DR Big Band 😀).
VERY NICE MÜZİC
common w dr bigband
Anime thought me that the conductor's job is 90% done by the time the performance takes place, since there's not much to do during the show if someone messes up. Is that how it actually is?
that is atleast often the case, not quite, but as a quick golden rule it pretty good
in classical orchestras the conductor interprates the music and makes the orchestra play that. in bigbands the musicians have more of an ability to play what they want individually. thats my understanding of it 😀
I'm not a fan of this lady standing up in front of her professional big band, conducting like a marching band. They're SWINGIN'! ... And she's playing metronome?.. no thx
@@sobel4511 she is miho hazama, one of the best, maybe you should look her up
@@emil25558 I'm sure she's a fantastic director, but this doesn't place her on a pedestal or make her experience magical. I've played in several jazz orchestras. In the last one, we performed this piece, Pete's Feet. Most of the young directors I've worked with would conduct entire pieces. None of the older ones would. The sentiment stands.
There comes a point in every (most) big band directors' life when they stop conducting every beat, and in particular, they stop conducting in 4/4. It's just an unnecessary distraction at most live big band performances. These are professional musicians. They can count bars and beats. Just kick them off, cue the changes, and get out the way so they can make some music.
Great recording, btw. Swinging hard.
