  • Join Ben and Brian this week as they talk us through a pair of fantastic singlecuts from Gibson and Maybach.
    The Les Paul model from Gibson is one of the most iconic and revered electric guitars in the history of popular music, and since its introduction in 1952 we've seen many iterations of this legendary silhouette. In this Going Electric video, we've put two such instruments next to each other to see how a handbuilt Maybach Lester compares with its Gibson counterpart.

    That last double stop note was so authentic early Fleetwood Mac, played on the'58

    Wow there maybach! Did you just sound MUCH better, or do I just have a bias towards wanting to like a non-gibson LP more?

    is the mic further away from the cabinet on the VOS? That feels like its the biggest variable almost

    I own both. R8 plays easier, sounds better unplugged. Pickups are totally different from each other. Maybach sounds warmer and nasal. Gibson is a bit more harsh, but in a good way.

      Could you please explain why you reckon the R8 plays easier?

    • @jeroengevers
      @jeroengevers Před 2 lety +2

      @@nunooliveira4257 mlne has a very light touch. Both are setup the same. And the r8 sounds better acoustic. Plugged in and with volune rolled down on the neck its almost a single coil. Maybach is good, better than most Standards and Traditionals, but not better than a reissue.

    Both awesome guitars. Strumming of the A chords was a win for the R8 for me.

    J ai eu une maybach et j ai la R8 maintenant. Et clairement la R8 est très au dessus même si la Maybach reste une bonne gratte

      @jean-yvesterras2174 Před 3 lety +5

      Franchement ? Très au dessus ? J'ai revendu ma R8 car elle était clairement pas à la hauteur du prix et lorsque tu compares avec la Maybach tu te dis Ok Gibson nous prends pour des jambons..

    See how horrible the Gibson 58 sounds!The Maybach sounds way better and they are more consistent.Out of 10-15 Gibson custom shop Les Pauls you might find one that is good if you lucky!

      Wow.. Just wow.. I dunno why you hate Gibson that much(?) but I've played quite a few CS Gibson (am lucky to own a CS ES335 myself) and they were all great guitars! Pricey but great! Stop hating for no reason!

      @@philfrank9226 I am fortunate to have a Gibson Les Paul, and it is a ‘go to’
      But to be honest I made my comment based on listening to the sound with eyes closed - sounds quite nerdy now I’ve said it. I thought other brand had far more depth to the sound. However, I guess this might not be too advantageous when recording if the guitar wants too broad a spectrum to sound good - this from a part time home studio tinkerer (at best).

      The A-chord on the Maybach had way more body, low end and girth. The Gibby sounded like an SG, when the low end is rolled off or something.

    et j'ai eu une lester 57 (donner à mon frère depuis), essayer plusieurs Maybach Teleman ,Stradivarius et Lester, trés bonnes guitares mais en dessous des CS Fender et Gibson essayées (et plusieurs divisions de différence avec Fender masterbuilt). cf red house mougins et mes autres CZcamsries.

    • @jont4102
      @jont4102 Před 5 měsíci

      Interesting comment especially as the ‘original’ is only original in the fact it has Gibson on the headstock. The Gibson company today is not the same company as in ‘59 other than the brand name. I owned a Gibson custom shop and I sold it. I now own a Maybach Lester ‘59 and, to me, it is a better guitar. Don’t get fooled by a brand name. They get sold and have nothing to do with the original brand other than the logo.

    Les paul has more sustaine because of rosewood fretboard, one piece of mahogany and bumblebee capasitor. Still maybach is good alternative

      But the Maybach is built with similar woods and set neck design.
