I have a standard 916. It seems to me the SP (well, with this camera) in the airbox howls less at high revs than mine. But still, the SP sounds better than the 998
Having owned a 998 i can say there is a lot more sound than a microphone can capture - ever. It gets deep into the guts but in a very pleasant way. The airbox creates noises and vibrations which are unlike anything i experienced before.
that is my dream to ride!
I added Pistal pistons and ported the heads bumped the compression to 13:1 wow what an incredible motor
Nicely filmed 👏🏼 I had a 916 Strada many years ago with 45mm Termi’s.. My current v-twin is my ‘99 TLR with Yoshi’s.. It also sounds superb. Love v-twins 🔥
I have to say that the 916 has a awesome sound, but I like both of these bikes 🇮🇹👌
Well when I bought my 2002 998 new I rode it for about 15k then I had the performance package installed which included hot cams, termi slip-on and performance ECU it not only transformed the performance from 123hp to 136hp the sound was transformed also, much nicer sounding than the 998 I hear here.
I like the 916 and i love the 998, but to be honest the 996SP was always my dream bike

Thanks. I have an SP3 with Termi homologated pipes. Sounds the same but slightly more muted.

I got a older SS750 ('92) with Boss demper, it's the twin cylinders that make the Duc's sound great.
Both awesome machines I'd go for the 916, but only just, 😍
Having owned both I can say the older Desmo engine is more of a visceral experience. While not as smooth and refined it is a hot rod experience.
Do you think the same can be said about the 748?? A hot rod expeience?

Schöne Mopeds , guter Sound bei beiden . Ich glaub ich brauch auch nen Moped aus der 916er Reihe , 996 r oder 998 r hätt ich gern ;) Wär dann mein erster 4 Ventiler ...
my computer speakers are on the table, and the table vibrated more with the 998. but i could listen to these bikes all day.
916 sounds better than the 998 but put a. 50 mm system on the 998 ,,more mods more money 🤑🤑🤑 nice to hear both ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland enjoying the sweet noises 🤞

My 1996 900ss SP with Ferraci pipes sounds exactly the same as the 94 916 🤗🤗
What microphone setup is used here?
Why does the 916 have a chime to it, is it normal?
My 996s sound like a mixture of the two....

The different sound comes from the termignoni engine, not much from the different engine.

998 aftermarket exhaust is not the best. Sounds very suppressed.
