    Great video. I've been out of riding for 20 years and CZcams sure helps. I think my 26 rm 250 was the first twin chamber way back, and I had no idea how to service it.
    This video made today's oil changes easy.

      26 RM250? or 1996 I think you meant. I think the first year was 1993 on the RM125. Then later the RM250 got them. I'm glad to hear the video helped! Thanks for reaching out. Ohh the suspension tuning videos. They where some of my early ones and kinda long but I really wanted to put every thing in there that I had to share on that.       My thumbs don't type well. Yes my old 96 RM250. And yes the suspensions tuning videos. They took a while to watch but are very helpful. I kind of new a lot of it, but it is good to get a refresher and confirm what I thought. I like the order of adjustments to get the bike correct. I basically followed that with my 2019 YZ250fx.     Just serviced one fork (my first time) by watching another video but wish I had watched this one first. Both had some good insight but this one seemed more straight forward. Time to clean the fluid off my floor. Messy job.

    Wow wish i had found your channel longer ago … ( idk if longer ago is a saying ) man what a blessing this channel is !! A million thanks ! I’m new to your channel so i may have not dug deep enough but was needing to put heavier springs on a 2019 yz125 , you’ve more than covered that! My question is it seems they recommend new valves when you do so.. they offer kits on RM , was considering this but couldn’t find a video from you on that.. i no longer trust anyone else haha .. what are your thoughts?       Hello. Welcome aboard! When you change your springs you don't need to re-valve at all. I know RM recommends this but its just not true. Often times you may need to turn the rebound clicker in maybe a click or two (depending what rates you went with) to hold the stiffer spring back some on rebound but that's about the extent of it. I currently don't have any re-valve videos but I do have a video on changing springs and I also have a suspension series. But the series is one of my first sets of videos and they are kinda long and winded, however they surely cover every aspect on dialing in your suspension and nothing is left out. I do plan on making a shorter version more of a crash course on suspension tuning in the near future. And your very welcome! Thanks for reaching out!

      Right on. I used it in open chamber forks as well for like trail bikes and such. I still use it in my outer chamber on the twin chamber forks. Works great.

    Sorry I didn’t mean to sound so negative. I’ve been doing suspension for 30 years. Here’s a couple tips that may help you.
    In the center of the fork seal and the dust seal you’ll notice there’s a Ridge there that’s actually called a grease ridge, fill this ridge with grease and apply a light coat of grease to the teflon bushings. This will give you virtually zero drag in your fork with a smoother stroke.
    2nd tip, you really should polish the chrome tubes to remove any imperfections. This is done with two light passes with 400 grit emery cloth, then followed up with another round with 600 grit.
    Everything will work much smoother and last longer.

      Thanks. I have noticed oem honda seals come with grease already in them. It surely keeps things smoother when fresh but I often wondered how many hours that will stick around.

      My bike with 2.5 hours already has a leaky seal for this reason even brand new bikes Can have imperfections

      @@nightfall_1le575 I would try cleaning the seals lips first before changing. Often times dirt and junk can get under the lip seal and cause a leak but once cleaned out its all good. The most common cause of that is parking a bike dirty and no cleaning before next ride. The dirt on the fork leg dried up and sticks on the leg. The first time the forks compress on the next ride it pushed the dirt stuck on the fork underneath the seals lip. And like a windshield wiper with a leaf under it, it lets stuff buy. But if you clean the seal they will usually seal right back up

    GREAT JOB!!! Getting ready to this on my sons YZ125. Believe I'll try the transmission fluid..Have you ever tried the transmission fluid on the older single chamber forks.I have a 2005 KX125 and it goes thru fork seals like crazy..I get the most life out of the O.E.M seals just wonder if the transmission fluid would extend the seal life. Thanks

      Thanks! I have used ATF fluid on trail bike works that are very simple but not on MX single chamber forks. I imagine it would work but keep in mine most transmission fluid is anywhere from 5w to 7w, depending on the type. I'm sure it can extend the seal life on them as well though,

      Your welcome. The 2005 to 2006 forks are constructed about the same, both twin chamber forks. But the 2006 was vastly improved in the valving area and are easier to dial in.

LOL . had commented 2 weeks ago ( see below ) . and didn't really go too deep in thanking you. but i really do appreciate your videos . recently lost my mom , and after 20yrs of not riding , got myself a 2022 YZ125 2 or 3 weeks ago just to putz around locally, and blow off some steam . . found your channel , and started watching with plans to do some mods. you really go into great depth , and in a way i can understand and follow the instruction from . and just wanted to elaborate and further say thank you . im sure this channel isn't a big come up , and is more so for education rather than income for you . and that just further makes me thankful because youre doing it with passion and a want to share . if i don't say something , it's not known . and i was raised right , and told if you don't say something, the person doesn't know . . . . so really . thank you , and know people do watch and learn and put the education to practice . just finished re-jetting my bike because from factory they really make it overly rich . and it runs so much better now through the lower/mid range. id not have done the job in as short a time , and confidently without you . i'm down in palm beach ( Jupiter ) if youre ever down this way def mention in a video and maybe i can buy you guy's lunch or something .       Well Hello Brad! Sorry to hear about your mom, I know how life changing that can be. I believe your so right, if we don't say it, its not known. Money cant buy receiving a comment like yours. Its so nice you and people like you are watching these and going out there is putting it to practice. And also finding the connection and entertainment in it. When I first started doing these videos some people told me that it would cause me to have less business because I was basically telling people how to do it themselves. But I believe if you have something you can share and you give it away you will gain much more in return.       @@UpAllNight91 sorry for my delayed response, had the flu . but absolutely man , im happy to relay that to you so you KNOW youre works appreciated. im starting to enjoy the bike and dig int it and tune it a bit . little suggestion for the young kid you help with his YZ125. swap the 13T front sprocket to a 14T , and rear go from a 49T to a 48T. that really helped lessen the low end sluggishness by making you rev a bit more , also lessening the overly rich factory jetting , swap the pilot from the factory 75 , to the provided 72 pilot, and use the NYDF needle to the slightly leaner NYEF needle ( also should have been provided with the bike purchase ) and use clip position 2 , with a 2.75 air screw turn out . really livened the bike up for me. if he needs oem parts , id be happy to offer my spares ive replaced , pipe , silencer , clutch and ignition covers , handlebars . id have to look around at what else i have , but i tossed on a Bills pipes MX works pipe and PC kevlar silencer , and man does she sing now. really opened up the mid and top end for me , and the sprocket combo made it have 10% more gear and speed up top . i dnt currently have a way to transport my bike, but if/when i do , id def be down to make the drive up sometime for a weekend and get together . and or if youre ever this way , im more than happy to offer a place to stay for you .

      @@UpAllNight91 forgot to mention because i haven't installed yet , but i have a wiseco piston , wiseco clutch , GTYR pressure plate , and have gone to T2 fuel , and Motul fluids . was wondering if after his piston install if you had to re-jet because of the increase in compression . i also got the apex head, but waiting till i HAVE to dig into the motor to make use of the parts. but how did you find the suggested APEX jetting , and or did you stray/play with any other jetting to further dial in tuning. new to 2 stroke tuning , and almost nervous to go so deep into the build without experience doing so . i come from the automotive world , but w/o a wideband im anxious , and don't want to toss all these nice new parts into it , and mess up .

I will check with them and see if they have the jetting that came in the bag with the bike. If not I will probably order that up and try that out on his 2022. Sounds like you did all the hard work I just gotta plug it in!

      @@twistymcslide2 the wiseco piston actually has the same compression ratio so your good there. Ita plug and play. I found the apex jetting tips on apex website, but honestly all the apex needs over the stock head is usually just dropping the main jet one size. Its really because the squishband is tighter on the apex. Tighter squishbands are more efficient and usually requires slightly less fuel. Yeah you gotta get a way to transport your bike. A cheap truck or a trailer on a car or something. So many places to ride if you can get it there. Plus here in Florida we have FTR races. Them are some of the coolest really

      Hello. If your wr has twin chamber KYB forks like the ones in the video then yes. You can compare the fork caps, if they look like the caps in the ones in the video then yes this will get you through it

    Damn this is sick. Thanks so much. I'm about to do mine and this is going to make the job so much less stressful. I just have one question. When you take apart the outer casings (i think that's what you call them( 7:50)) and take them outside to get them cleaned up. What do you mean exactly? you spray them in water? break cleaner? no one mentions it and I don't want to ruin mine doing a stupid mistake. Hopefully you answer before next wednesday because that's when I'll service mine. Cheers

      Hello. What i do is use WD40, spray all in them and out. Then I use high pressure air from a air compressor with a air nozzle and shoot air into them and all around them to blast the WD40 and trash out and off. If you don't have a air compressor then brake cleaner works well and won't hurt anything. Just spray them out and clean then let them air dry and it should be good

So I changed my sels and the fluids, but during the step where we pump it one last time for good measure, and then proceed to push the cylinder all the way in with the hole facing up, my forks let out air and spurted. It had me a little alarmed cause I saw yours didn't seem to release air... Then when I read the manual to find the amount of oil I had to put in, I saw that yamaha said to not push the cylinder all the way down because that would let air in....So now i'm wondering, do you think I let air in the system? When you said to push it all the way down, did you mean ALL the way down, or all the way down to the 1 inch from the bottom? Thanks alot. I enjoyed serviving my forks becaus eof your video. Made it easy and stressless.

      @@falashlaba20 yes with the lock nut still on the shaft, twisted all the way toward the body of the chamber by hand. I press all the way down on final bleeding. You will hear the last bit of air spit out. Thats normal. But if you don't do that then the first time you bottom the bike out the inner chamber will spit the extra fluid into the outer chamber. And then you will have more fluid in the outer chamber than you anticipated. This is why I do it before putting them back in. Yamaha manual has been funky in the area of the forks since SSS came out in 2006. In 2006 they had people doing them all wrong and I had to learn the hard way what was the right way.

    Hey man, going to do my yearly suspension service in about a month and I noticed you had a video on that as well. Question, when I fill the inner chamber and bleed it I test it by pushing the rod in and letting it extend by itself all the way out. But where it stops is almost all the way, if I tug it it can extend about a 1/2" further. Is that normal, both forks did it and I tried multiple times too (wasted a bit of oil, was just maxima though) but still could pull it a little. I was led to believe that means it s still has air inside. Didn't see you test it that way. Is that normal or is there some sorta seal inside that I need to replace?

      Hello. Yeah it won't extend all the way on its own most times, perfectly bleed and all. Its mainly because the spring on inner chamber is pretty relaxed when fully extended. That spring acts like the nitrogen pressure of a shock. But is normal. If there is air in there you will hear it when stroking it, and thats usually the giveaway.

    I followed the steps exactly for the inner fork seals. After getting one bleed and filled, air is still leaking in the inner chamber and causes the rod to get sucked back in. Do you think that the inner piston seals need to be replaced? Can I just get the ZETA aftermarket part instead of replacing each individual O ring?

      Depends where its leaking from. I find some like to leak from the bottom little 0 ring seal. The top o ring seals usually hold up. Its mainly the bottom one I see go bad and leak

      LoL. Well its best to do both chambers if you are already in there. But if the outer is not to dirty and your OK with it then doing only the outer will do.

    Is there any way to just add oil, if it leaked around a seal that must of cleared the debris that was making it leak, and isn't leaking anymore.

      Yes, you can open the top of the forks and add oil directly in. You can also open the bleeder screw, compress the fork a little and then as you slowly let the fork come back up you can add fluid into the bleeder hole. But the question is, how much was lost and how much needs to be replaced. We may never know. So the right way to do it is to open the top of the forks, dump the fluid out of the outer chamber, then refill each fork tubes outer chamber to the correct volume.

    hey hoping you can help as this has happened twice to me. The dampening rod stripped off completely on the bottom of the fork where the adjuster nut goes on. Thinking I have a bogus torque wrench that is searing off the rod but maybe its something else?

      Oh man thats expensive too. Are you bottoming out the adjuster nut on the dampening rod first and then locking down the locking nut? If so the only other thing I can think of is its just being put on too tight. I don't know the torque specs for this but there are places on these bikes that the torque specs are either too little or too much in my experience and opinion. Areas like this I go by feel. With a big torque wrench its hard to tell when you are going past the point of what the treads can handle. I use just a 3/8th ratchet or a wrench and lock them down by feel just like I did in the video.

    I just discovered my fork seals to be leaking on my 2023 250, and i ended up finding the culprit, i have a few gouges on my lower tube, im 90 percent sure the gouges ripped my seal, my question is, how would i go about smoothening out the tube or do i just have to replace it?

      Hello. Bummer on such a new bike. On such a new bike I would just replace that lower fork leg but sometimes they can be repaired. I have used files, steal wool, you name it. Every repair is different. But I would suggest just a new lower fork tube since the bike is newer and kinda worth it.

    How often would you recommend to change bushings?

      I like to change them out when I change out the seals, but its not always necessary. They actually last a long time if the fluid is kept good and clean. Hard to put a hour number on when they should be replaced though, as it just depends on how well service has been kept up and how hard the rider rides the bike.

    Hey I have some forks for a yz250 but it’s an 89. Do you think I could base things off this video? Has it really changed that much? Also when I compress my forks they are smooth and frictionless but jump up like a pogo stick and when I shake them I think I can hear the springs. Do you reckon I just need all around oil inside and outside and possibly new seals? No clue how many hours, owners, or anything. Bought the bike a few weeks ago.

      Hello. The 1989 forks are totally different. No inner and outer chamber, just one chamber for all the fluid. If they are bouncing they will probably already lost most of their fluid from seal leaks. I would just take them down and replace the seals, then use fresh fluid. These forks are totally different than the ones in the video. Theres gotta be a video on these somewhere though if you search youtube I would think

    What oil do you recommend to use I’m 180lbs idk if that helps but I noticed there’s different numbered oil for the forks, I got a 05 Yamaha yz450f

      Hello. For the 2005 YZ450f its recommended to use Yamaha 01 fork fluid. Thats the OEM stuff for them 2005 forks.       The outer edge (otter diameters)of the seal has a fatter side. The fatter side goes up.

      I just wd40. And blow it off and out, wipe it clean and thats good enough for me. I try to avoid harsh cleaners like break cleaner and such. Wd40 does well, just try your best to get it all out and dry for the most part

      Someone use to make and sell aluminum ones and for cheaper. I cant remember if it was race tech or enzo. But I would call around some of the big suspension guys like that and ask. They are out there just cant remember where.

      @@UpAllNight91 so I guess mine is KYB open chamber forks the order model, so my locking nut is on the top and I have to get the special tool to hold the dampener Rod/ or make one.
      I got one apart…with an impact idk how but I did and didn’t break anything.
      Waiting on the tool cause I’ll need it to toque it.
