  • UPDATE: I didn’t know she sang this for the woman imprisoned for fighting for women’s rights in Iran. As an Iranian woman, that is absolutely incredible. Maybe my soul knew on some level, and that’s why I was brought to tears.

    As an Iranian woman, I am awed by the backstory to this entire tribute concert. Hearing my family in Iran talk about what’s going on over there is heartbreaking. This woman, sitting in prison, winning a Nobel Peace Prize…who’s helping her? Where are the feminists in this country that rage about crosswalk signs only being male in the UK, and other ridiculous “issues”, when there are real women’s issues like what’s going on in Iran? I’m proud to be Iranian. And I’m even more proud to be American and live in a country where women are completely, utterly, 100% free. Thank you to this brave woman, rotting in a cell in Iran, who dared to even bring the spotlight on REAL women’s equality. 🙏

    the person who suggested it should have told you this is the nobel peace price ceremony awarding the prize to the irananian woman imprisoned for fighting for women's rights. she's sentenced to about 40 years. her twin 18 year olds are in the front and have accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf. Presumably she will never see them again. that's why it's sung with such despair. she's looking directly at them when she touches her chest at the end

    Maunalee, This is the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony that Angelina was invited to perform. Angelina, the beloved daughter of Norway, previously performed at the Nobel Peace Prize when she was 9 years old. She looks like a beautiful Angel dressed in white with diamonds in her hair. Angelina wanted to perform for an Iranian woman imprisoned for fighting for women's rights and was sentenced to about 40 years. Children's, and women's rights, along with the disadvantages, have been her hallmark and concern throughout her young career.

    Dressed like an angel and sung like an angel. That last note carried to heaven.
    You know Maunalee, I didn't appreciate this performance fully the first time I heard it. The second time it struck me. In this case, the occasion does dictate the manner of execution by the performer. This was a prayer for Narges Mohammadi and her twin children who were sitting down below. Angelina swells with humility and performed this with the perfect amount of feeling and grace.
    I've heard this many times and touches me more each time.
    As always, Thank you for your reaction.

    Please do listen to this again (maybe a few times), recognizing as you do that Angelina sings this for very personal reasons. I'm sure, as she prepared for this performance (and possibly while she sang it), she could picture relatives in Iran and, of course, Narges Mohammadi being persecuted for daring to believe that women should have rights. You can see in this video that Angelina isn't in her usual happy and smiling on-stage persona; for her, this was serious and heartfelt about a serious and heartfelt issue in her grandma's homeland.

    MaunaLee, I appreciate all you do and your honesty during reactions, but I respectfully disagree with your comments about the tribute. This is the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony which Angelina received the honor of being invited to perform. The information below will describe more fully the concept and why her version of this song is so poignant. The pain in her voice is palpable.
    Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Acts of kindness are inspirational, as Angelina always reminds us. We angels, and all others must honor Angelina, and those who represent our values, by doing all we can to help, and be kind to others. Even the smallest gestures can make a difference. If you have not already done so, please provide artist links to the official channels, social media and even links to Spotify and iTunes. Most importantly, encourage your viewers to use those links the same way as you do for your own channel. That will help ensure her success and spreading peace and love to the world.

      @musicwithmaunalee  Před 5 měsíci +17

      As an Iranian woman, I absolutely agree that the tribute is very important and inspiring. I simply meant that a tribute will not change how I feel about a singer’s performance. But I am going to and watch the entire tribute, now that I know what it was about. I wish I would have known before.

    • @ronraskind
      @ronraskind Před 5 měsíci +7

      @@musicwithmaunaleeMaunalee, I can understand that sometimes the tribute is not a great factor in your analysis of music. But in this case, the way Angelina performed the song reflected the emotion she felt for the situation. Very painful for the woman's family who were in attendance. You could feel the pain in Angelina's voice and the tribute was a major part of that.
      It's interesting talking about backstories and how they affect music. I am currently a huge fan of the warning, but in my younger years was never a fan of hard rock. When I learned of the warning 3 years ago I didn't have much interest and didn't think this type of music would work for me. But when I saw the warning TEDx talks in 2017, that changed drastically. Understanding where the girls came from, their incredible work ethic, and their impressive values, I became a fan, and I began to love their music because I loved them. It wasn't a tribute per se, but knowing and loving the artists as people can make a huge difference. I always recommend that reactors spend a couple of minutes and check out the background of the artist before doing a new reaction on them. It helps in understanding where they come from. I would highly recommend a reaction to the TEDx talks 2017. The warning were all so invited for 2016 if you wanted to see that first. But 2017 they were a bit more mature and the music all comes off of their first album. They speak in between about their journey. Many fans became fans of the warning after seeing this episode. Best of luck with your health and the pregnancy! Peace out.

    The recipient for this year's award was Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian dissident, now in an Iranian prison for her outspoken messages and activism for women's rights. Narges' two twin children spoke on her behalf at this event prior to Angelina's singing. They are Angelina's age and haven't seen their mother in years. She was able to speak with both before her performance. I'm sure this performance was a very poignant moment for Angelina--one quarter Iranian herself, and whose grandmother Mery is full Iranian. The national orchestra of Norway, KORK, has done numerous concerts with their native daughter, the Nobel Peace Prize Tribute the most recent. I have learned more about Norway over the past two years, since discovering Angelina, than I knew over the past 80 years prior. A gorgeous country, much like their daughter. We are blessed that we are now graced with her residence. For me, based on a 1-10 scale, this was easily a 12, but that's just me.

    Maunalee, I wish you all the very best with your pregnancy. I know it is asking for the moon to have any reaction channel to do a couple minutes of research for any reaction, but this is a prime example of once you know the background, then the performance takes on a whole new meaning.
    Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges was, at the time of this tribute, on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
    We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
    In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
    "Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release

Some people put way too much emphasis on having to understand the entire back story of a performance in order to enjoy it. You clearly enjoyed Angelina's performance and her rendition of the song which showcased her classic sound and her ability to convey emotion. The event she sang at was definitely more than just a "Tribute" concert. It was an Official Nobel Peace Prize concert for the recipient in abstentia who is in prison in Iran. @@musicwithmaunalee Yes, Eva Cassidy passed away in 1996. She was not very well known at the time but after her death recordings of her music, initially over the rainbow, got into the hands of radio stations and record companies I believe in Great Britain. They went viral and since, she is sold almost 20 million albums post-humously. One of the most ethereal voices you will hear. Songbird is gorgeous as is Danny boy, time after time, bridge over trouble water, and more. But over the rainbow is her signature and although it's been done many times, you will never hear it again done like this!

    Hi Maunalee. If you are looking for some new talent to react to, I recommend two: Guila Falcone, a young Italian singing "Still Loving You" and young 15 year old Emma Kok singing at a concert "Voila". They are both fantastic. Thanks for reacting to Angelina and "Unchained Melody." Her performance was so classy and heartfelt with full orchestration at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. Looking forward to a just announced Angelina Jordan concert in Las Vegas on Feb 29th. Can't wait.

    I have two names you have not covered! Alexandra Capitanescu who won the Voice of Romania last year, please react to her audition for that show, Welcome to the Jungle!
    The other one is Gabriel Henrique, a Brazilian Singer who recently got a Golden Buzzer singing a Whitney song on America's Got Talent, he speaks very little English but has many English covers! The one I would like you to react to is I Want To Know What Love Is, recently released in a rooftop setting with Coral Black to Black! He sings as high or higher than Dimash, but carries the weight of a male voice in his high register!
    Also the current winner of American Idol, Abi Carter, you could start with her audition, What Was I Made For, that had the judges say she could be the winner!
    All three need exposure!

    Afghan girls are not allowed to sing. But the Afghan woman Simin Tander is living in Germany and works with different European musicians and she can sing. Som of the stuff that she has done together with Tord Gustavson is pure magic. czcams.com/video/gJhx7B8pZ5k/video.html and czcams.com/video/1-jbkTtpCvg/video.html A Norwegian religious folksong dressed up in Afghan language and a soft touch of European jazz . And i guess you will like the Norwegian band "Gåte". Translates "Riddle". The latest is "Ulveham" czcams.com/video/UipzszlJwRQ/video.html

    The amount of people giving Maunalee crap is baffling. She literally said it was one of the best performances, and gave it a 9.5/10. What do these nutjobs want? No wonder she is so sensitive. You people are the reason youtubers quit doing what they love. JFC be better people. These musical artists are just people that sing well, they arent the second coming of Christ. Chill
