When she used to charge people a quarter for cursing on the set of her stupid, boring TV show, Ethel had to pay up more than once. On the third offense, fully over Loretta’s sanctimony, she put a $5 in the coffee can and said “Here’s five bucks Loretta. Go fuck yourself!” 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

One of the biggest and most welcome surprises in Oscar history especially following Loretta Young's pontificating. Johnny Carson was a great Oscar host.
Reds was good but sappy, Raiders is phenomenal but at that time, action-adventure-fantasy was just getting better recognition. I thought of all of them Chariots was the best because it got the true human emotions in a time when the world had lost a lot of it innocence after WWI. Just my opinion of course.

Reds went into the evening as heavy favorite, but when Chariots won costume design and screenplay and when Raiders picked up the key film.editing award - there was real suspense when it came to the final award. It was 9 years since the last split between director and picture so it was due. Before Ms. Young announced the winner = Raiders had won 4 with On Golden Pond, Chariots and Reds 3 each. Only Atlantic City was out of the race.
This was a VERY deserved win. Chariots of Fire is a beautiful movie. Reds is a piece of crap, a cheap propaganda, but all the others are great movies, especially Raiders of the Lost Ark which is a childhood favorite.
