This is the most epic and long music of Star Wars XD. In the film it is mixed with Battle of Endor 2 and 3. This is the track that plays when Admiral Ackbar says "It's a trap!".

The Death Star was able to destroy that cruiser obviously because Porkins was not on the fleet anymore. If he was around, he would have probably body-blocked that Death Star blast and saved hundreds of lives on that cruiser.

The look on Lando's face when he realizes it's a trap is priceless.
The little flourish at 1:03 is something I've always loved. Only used in this film but just screams GOOD GUYS! I love the Rebels theme for sure but this one just sounded so good and official, like they're not just a ragtag group anymore but a real force to be reckoned with.

LOVED the music from Return of the Jedi. Even if A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back had the most iconic pieces, I think Jedi's music was the best in the series; Luke and Leia was INCREDIBLY beautiful, the Emperor's Theme may be the most evil-sounding piece of music I've ever heard. The choral piece that played over Luke's final assault on Vader sends chills down my spine every time.
my favorite moment in cinema is luke's fight with vader in rotj. the music is sublime.
They're all great in their own ways. I'm partial to the prequel music, but the music that plays onscreen is always perfectly appropriate.

Episode 6 became my favorite due to the music being so immersive and really hitting all the moments and feelings throughout that last half hour of the film.

The Emperor's dialogue are so well written! Nothing comes close almost 40 years later, only a very few movies and not even from the 2010's or 2020's
And to hear George say he was basically making a “space opera” is the cherry on top for me sometimes.
I've finally noticed something. That little tune that plays at 1:02 gets stronger and stronger it represents the moment perfectly. The second before the last one shows that something wasn't quite right. The last one represents that of course it was a trap

I have that piece heard being referred to as "Jedi March" long before the prequels came out. Doesn't make a lot of sense as it's the rebel fleet marching towards the Death Star, but whatever. Anyway, I love it and it's almost a shame it never gets reused anywhere else. Really shows this was John William's most creative phase when he came up with iconic themes left right and center.
@@countluke2334 If you haven’t seen the Rebels TV show, the composer worked elements of this theme into the closing credits. The whole score uses a lot of OT era motifs, which ties it nicely into the films and gives you a sense of when it takes place.

low IQ maneuver, given that that puts them in range of the star destroyers - and the death star. closing range with the deaht star was by far the better move to take advantage of its difficulty aiming that close
What if the Empire deployed more than 30 men as a garrison for the shield generator?
+David Tracy not the way the movie portrays it. A legion is a very vague term, but in the context used it should have meant there was at least a regiment of troops there (1000), more like brigade sized (3000-5000 men, which is actually Roman legion sized), if not an entire division of troops (10,000-20,000 men).
Instead Ewoks overwhelm a platoon of stormtroopers.
That's the other thing, I understand keeping a light garrison so that they're easier to conceal for the sake of the trap, but all those stormtroopers embarked on the imperial fleet should have been flown down to the shield generator en masse. The shield generator should have been on lockdown until ordered by the Emperor, and the fleet's troops should have been brought down to pursue any routed rebels. It's a very basic procedure.
+David Tracy typical Lucas cheese writing that we've seen since ROTJ. They should have kept wookies in the script, I can totally see them joining the battle to help destroy the shield generator. Have them be slave labor on the planet assembling parts for the Death Star. Because the station needed to be built with haste, thats why the wookie labor camp is there. Have the Ewoks free them too, they sneak in while the imperials are commiting all their forces in the ambush, leaving very few guards and an exposed rear.
They can even utilize their power tools to attack the imperial armored vehicles. Have them land on top of that AT-AT and cut through to kill the pilots (and General Veers) and turn that against the imperials. Thats much better payback given how Hoth went, and it's more believable than one commandeered light armored vehicle wipes out the empire's forces.

+NYG5 Actually by lore, the legion is around 4 regiments by star wars standards, now if we recall Imperial Army standards, that is about 15,000 men, including a little better than 10,000 front-line troops. The book does it better but to explain fully, the battle at the main generator door was a regiment-platoon, all through out the area, the forest and landing pad and outposts were the rest of the men, all battling it out with other rebel cells. Luke's plot shield party was only one of about. .50 others that landed during the battle itself.

After watching the last Jedi I can unequivocally say that Return of the Jedi is the best Star Wars movie with Jedi in the title.
Return of the Jedi has always been my favorite Star Wars movie, but even if it weren't.........being better than the Last Jedi is kind of a low bar to get over, I mean, even the Prequels, as bad as they can get are *far* better than the Last Jedi...

The entire soundtracks is a masterpiece.
Something I never realized until recently is that this theme starts playing before the scene where the Rebels come out of hyperspace to attack. It starts playing faintly in the background, but getting louder, during the previous scene on the Endor moon, the moment Leia points at the screen in the bunker and says to hurry because the fleet is coming. Really subtle, but brilliant - the music tells you what's coming next before it happens.

The first two minutes thirty seconds of this video contain the best I can remember hearing from the "Return of the Jedi" soundtrack. The rhythmic handling of the beginning is masterful, much in the manner of Igor Stravinsky, with the strings syncopating with an unstable melody that surprises in each measure. It is a real delight to the ear.
