Since those are both retired products do you have a current product that you suggest instead of the infrared receiver and control?

Definitely like the IR Receiver method better even if it's costs a bit more

After 8 years, I finally got the creator expert ferris Wheel set, so it is getting added to my 2024 project list. I am glad I finally have it in my collection.

You could also look into some gear reduction techniques. Adding larger gears or multiple smaller gears will change the output ratio and will give you a slower RPM than the original, without adding any additional loud motors.

Definitely an improvement! But I agree that the IR motor is the best option.

Bricksie, another good method that is a little chunky is adding more gears or taking them away and then hooking up the motor technic piece, 3D printer academy shows a great video on gear boxes. I would build a lego gear box then build a small building to house it and reduce the sound a bit.

Another way to do it is to use rechargeable battery box, which also has speed control dial.

Much better at the slower speed - IR option is a great idea so you can control the speed. Got to love the worm gear method for its simplicity, but I’d go IR!

Use the IR receiver. The other method sounds like the ride is breaking down. Can't wait to see the Amusement Park. 😄😄😄😄

I use that same worm gear method you mentioned. I agree it's loud but usually there will be many different motors going for other things at the same time.

The best way is to hook it up to a 9 volt transformer using a 9 volt to powerfunctions cable. No batteries, no receiver, just plug in and regulate the speed.

You can also power the motor via the 4548 Train Control Unit then you don't have to worry about batteries. You also get variable speed control (6 different speeds) that way too.

The cabs on my set keep sticking and just stay upside down on the way round, is there a way to make them more slack so they turn easily?

Definitely the IR receiver is the better of the two. I think the other method is way too slow. The IR receiver method allows the speed to vary which is what you would be doing while you were loading the ferris wheel and makes stopping in the loading position more exact but I do like the ability to then speed it back up when it's really moving. This set is what got me into Lego 5 years ago.

My method is very similar to your number 2, however I use a worm gear box (part 32239) which holds everything in place in a more compact, stronger way.
