Exploring 100 Lakes | 3-Day Solo Canoeing, Wild Camping and Fishing Adventure

  • In the middle of June I went for a solo canoeing, wild camping and fishing trip south of Jokkmokk called Kronogård Nature Reserves to explore lakes and the area that consists of over 100 lakes and beautiful ancient forest. I brought my solo canoe with a yoke and camping gear and headed out into the wilderness. This is an area that I have been looking at for a long time but never been visiting.
It’s tiny small lakes with short portages between them and it’s very easy to find good camping spots and it’s an exciting area for wildlife and fishing. I saw huge fishes in the lakes but they were sadly not interested in my lures. The fishes you find here are both arctic char, and wilderness trout but also planted rainbow trout in some of the lakes.
It was super-hot days when I was there but luckily the mosquitoes weren’t that bad. Chilly nights and the sun never setting down under the horizon. This is an area that I will definitely visit again.

Good point about the aluminum. When I lived off grid and burned most of my garbage, the one thing I never burned was any kind of metal, even the thinnest foil doesn't burn it just breaks apart and it doesn't biodegrade either.

Love the overhead drone footage. Lucky you, to find that blue barrel that is a perfect horizontal fit inside the canoe. Good that you've not crashed the drone, today. Eat an Apple a day, to keep the Doctor away! Hauling that canoe overland looks like work. Good tip about partially deflating an air mattress in warm weather.
    All those ponds/lake, truly beautiful.
39.2º C is the forecast high today here in Reno, however, it's a dry heat & no mosquitos, just rattlesnakes out in the boonies.
Please, the name of your dog, which admittedly, I should know by now.

Lots of fun whether one catches anything or not. However, nice to have a fresh meal of fish especially perch type. Hard to beat a Mepp's Rooster tail spinner bait. Light is right.. Generally with silver blades, some white hair/ red for blood look. Also the perch type fish like to bite with a jigging of bait motion. Their eyes are up top looking for food failing down. What brand rod is that? I have a 35 yr old Shakesphere Ugly Stik. I have used it all across Canada and in many USA places. Carry it on my motorcycle. Just a few lures. I use the same ones pretty much no matter how many I have. I've been fishing over 65 years. When young it was where we got most of our meat. Beautiful place. Fish feed at the tailing of moving water. Still lakes have frogs and insects for food. Pot hole lakes, not much flow. Ducj down clumps up a lot more than goose down. I see some roads and a few cabins in the drone footage. Pretty good access to the area looks like. Do you have orchards in Sweden? Really good vid, good music. Appreciate your efforts very much. Not easy doing and filming. Takes a lot of time and back and forth. It is a beautiful area. Seems some ATV tracks as well at some of the portages. Like to see and experience that first hand. Take care. Now time for you to stay home and feed the dogs. And also a little clean up work. In/out. Next time.

You can't compare usage of insect repellent to usage of thermacell-type devices. Insect repellent is just that, a repellent that makes you unatractive to mosquitos. Thermacell is neurotoxin that kills mosquitos and all other insects and can cause great damage to the nature. Many dogs have also suffered serious neurological symptoms after beeing near one.

In this area, some lakes are 100 meters deep!!! They stay colder than the shallow one. The lake we have close to our home is up to 20-30 meters deep. Here we got 20-24C every summer. Now I'm talking about the water on the surface and not the water deep down.

      Hello!
      I have few ideas...
      1. Länsstyrelsen have a app called 'Naturkartan' but then you need to be online.
      2. If you goes to www.lanmateriet.se and then search for 'skapa min karta'. Here it's possible to create a pdf map and then print it.
      Link: kartutskrift.lantmateriet.se
Nowadays I usually print my own maps and add information on this maps. I check google satelite photo etc and read about an area and so on if I think I need more details .
I hope you will find a good way...
