I just found out Family Ties was a thing, and since I was born in 2005 and wasn't there when this aired I can't watch full episodes without paying. So I just stick to clips. Based on the clips I've seen Alex seems like the kind of guy I would hate and fight with all the time but also think is adorable.

Alex NEVER liked the kkk etc and he DID idolize Nixon who signed EPA, affirmative action, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act into law and public funding of contraceptives. Nixon had flaws yes, but he also was light years ahead of Trump
I like the part where Deena kisses Alex. It reminds me of all the guys I used to like in high school. I also like it when Deena runs her fingers through Alex’s hair.

@@averythecoolcat nope.....Alex idolized Nixon who signed the EPA and free birth control into law. Nixon did not want a constitutional Amendment prohibiting abortion--which was the right's big pet issue in the early 1980's. Alex would have been purely concerned with economic issues.
@@PioneerGrrrl Yes, but I don't think Alex would have co-signed with Trump's haphazard fascist approach to government. He was all about the Constitution and free speech and press, too. Rand Paul still seems to hold on to the old school ideals of fiscal conservatism that Alex stood for. In spite of his views on abortion.
@@averythecoolcat other reason why alex would have left GOP and become an independent---or even switched parties. He would have been sickened by Trump egging on white supremacists,. At Andy's preschool, he is playing with kids of different ethnicities and having a blast when all of the kids get on top of him
@@PioneerGrrrl There was also an episode where Alex was working with a friend that was Black on a suicide hotline and you get the impression the way they joked and bantered with each other that they were friends outside of that job, so he definitely wasn't racist.
This show was brilliant. I'm watching a bunch of Family Ties clips after not seeing this show for years and it's better than most shows nowadays.
