will you have review of Ace Pro?
Phenomenal information. I've watched a dozen reviews, and I still learned so much from yours.
Great to hear!
Excellent review Jake.
And that low light ability, just wow!!
Thanks and I agree!
Best review I’ve seen so far. I’ve been on the fence about getting one, and your active track examples just sold me. Everyone else was just using active track for talking head type stuff, but it’s great to see that it works that well for hiking shots. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Great video - You are one of the very few out there that I trust when looking for an honest review. Most other you-tubers are hyping and pushing product - you dont do that and I really appreciate your honesty. I'm very likely to purchase a pocket 3 due to your review. Thanks again.
I appreciate that!
Great coverage of a great camera. I am really enjoying this device. Still exploring the possibilities. Thanks Jake for this excellent content.
My pleasure!
Appreciate the video thank you for putting this together. Just got my Pocket 3 and am excited to start making some videos with it.
Have fun!
Jake, thank you for your detailed overview and use of the Pocket 3. Your insights and instructional tutorial is bringing me very close to purchasing the Pocket 3. 🙏🙏
Glad to help!
Just bought one... And I'm delighted! Your video is excellent, very nice tips...
Glad it was helpful!
This is a great overview! I just got my pocket 3 the other day and love it so far!
Glad you like it!
Great review video. Thank you for posting this!
Glad it was helpful!
I got mine a few weeks back and love it! Thx again for the info Jake! I'll be heading back to Alaska soon with mine
Awesome
Fabulous review. The videos and the actual composition of the recoded images were some of the best I have seen on a gimbal camera/device. The ice cave and the helicopter scenes were awesome. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Thanks for these beautiful images and to talk about the horizon performance in an aeroplane! Because I will try my Pocket 3 in flight with my paramotors, so it's very nice to talk about that! :) Have nice flights in Alaska, Cheers from France. Michael
You're welcome! I think it will work very well in paramotors!
Good review as always Jake
Thanks! (Love the name BTW!)
Thanks for the video Jake! I am loving mine. It goes with me everywhere it's just so portable and easy to use. I have version 1 and 2 but this one is pretty near perfect for my needs to vlog or just capture family video. The mic 2 is a nice touch and the sound is really good well worth getting the Creator Combo. Cheers and happy holidays.
Agreed! Cheers and happy holidays to you!!
Love your way of explaining the dji pocket 3 over time. Beautiful examples in your videos. Subscribed. As a first week pocket 3 owner myself 😉
Thank you!
Great breakdown as always!
Appreciate it Paul
I just got the pocket 3 today.. thank you for making this follow-up video... makes me feel like I made a good investment.... : )
Awesome!
This is such an excellent camera! Thanks for your in-depth review
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for So much experience sharing about tiny camera, I can’t wait for my order come in on first week of May 👍🥰
Have fun!
So thorough. Great content!
Thank you
Really good video Jake. I’ve been on the fence with this camera after watch of review videos. I think it’s almost perfect, if/once they allow to change the aperture for none blurry background I will buy it. Keep up the good work
That would be amazing
thank you for answering the mic question about using it with other brands!
You are welcome!
Great vid thanks for posting
thank you very much for your time/work
My pleasure!
Thanks! Really appreciate the video.
Glad it was helpful!
Very educational video Thanks!!
You bet!
Hi Jack I am from Islamabad, Pakistan... I'm your subscriber last two years... your contents is very helpful for me
Thank you!
I LOVE My action 4 , i will pick up the pocket 3 sometime next year if anything
it's a GREAT pairing of cameras!
Great video, thanks!!
Glad you liked it!
Good job brother 👏
I own one and performance is amazing....
All the best for your future videos
Keep going 💪
Love ❤️ 🇸🇬 SINGAPORE INDIAN 🇮🇳
Thank you!
Appreciated the comparison to the OA4 in low light, which actually wasn’t too bad but of course not as good as the OP3. I actually like the way the gimbal may give if going around tight corners…makes it seem more realistic. Just what I needed…another reason to spend money at Christmas! Great video!
Thanks Gordon!
I did a recent low light holiday lights walk after dark and compared pocket 3 video to photos using my a6600 and Sigma f1.4 lens and just comparing the video to APSC photos, the pocket 3 blew the apsc setup out of the competition. This pocket 3 is like a mini a7siii.
it really is!
Nice, a proper review. Unlike everyone else making fluff videos for views. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Hi mate totally loved this review…is it easy to transfer videos from pocket 3 to I phone and is the process fast ?? Thanks In Advance 🙏
I haven't done anything directly to my phone but if the latest drones and action cameras from DJI are an indication yes very easy and quite fast
Great review thank you how does self recording tracking work
I have a video walking through all the settings and setup!
Short answer for me yes, it depends on your personal preferences and what you are going to use it for i.e. vlogging, travel blogging etc.
agreed
8:26 %100 agree would be a perfect duo with the air 3
100%
The Pocket 4 will feature the MFT sensor/gimbal/camera that is on the Mavic. Other iterations will include interchangeable lenses. And eventually DJI will introduce the holy grail... A full frame Pocket based off the Inspire 2.
that would be amazing. They technically already have the pocket based off the Inspire 3: Ronin 4d lol it only "slightly" larger 😂
Two things that you didn't mention that I would like to see in the next version is - weather proofing and durability (or make the overall unit more rugged. Have you dropped this unit yet?).
agreed, I hope they come up with a weather proof version
Great video! thank you.
You are welcome!
Very well done, as usual, Jake. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this excellent video. Gorgeous scenery as always. Have a nice holiday season! 😀 PS. SO CLOSE to 100K subs. Congrats!
Thank you!
Thanks for such a great review.
15:42 Mind to share a bit about the "tripod/stick" you used there? Looks cool and versatile. Thanks.
Thats just the action 4 selfie stick from DJI, I also use one from insta360 and both have a small tripod on the bottom to keep it upright
Very nice review.Completely agree with you about the auto focus speed. Mr DJI, we need to be able to set the speed of the AF. All look really smooth & professional… until the AF jumps at light speed from close to far objets. Please please please 🙏, change that !
Totally agree
Great review for a great camera. I think video quality is the best in this price range. It have some kind of HDR feeling similar to first time i saw a footage from Mavic 3. Pocket 3 is sold out every store in Thailand. I agree that downside is photo resolution though it have very good quality and DR but resolution still low. I hope at least DJI should allow us to get 4:3 resolution for photo.
that would be nice
Look so nice! thanks you for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for this helpful video! regarding the photo quality of this device, what phone can it compete with or compare to?
most phones will do better because they are typically 12mp for photos.
Thank you Jake, for your great review and the sample shots, which helped a lot. I'm just wondering what the maximum length of a continuous shot is on this camera?
I mean as long as the battery lasts or you have sd card space, but it will break the file into 4gb sections due to FAT format limitations
@@JakeSloan Have you ever tried the exfat format? I use an Insta360 with a microsdxc formatted with exfat, which can hold up to 18GB per take (30 min of 4K50fps). I'm curious if exfat works the same on this camera too.
Amazing camera, going to get one this week
Nice!
I appreciate that your review was genuinely measured and substantive. I was doing research to determine if I wanted to invest in an OP3 myself............and I was just weary of all the clickbait and hype videos and just felt iffy in making the plunge.
Your review and one other honest review persuaded me to purchase one in earnest. It is unfortunate it's pretty fragile and I'm going to get mine insured and take over-the-moon care for it as if it were an infant, hahahahahaha................but despite that and a few of your genuine critiques: it's undeniably a tremendous value I'd be a fool NOT t take up. Thanks again! 🥰
Thank you!
About the horizon losing level, to be fair I have the same issue with GoPro Max when using it on boat while turning or accelerating. Also had the same issue with Osmo+ back in the day. Just a momentum thing with digital IMU’s. I hear optical IMU’s are less susceptible to that
agreed
Hi, I have the Pocket 3 camera too and I've been enjoying it. I think it actually zooms up to 4x. You might double check that.
It does depending on what resolution you are filming in
Well Done Jake
Thanks Bob
Great set of videos about the Pocket 3, Jake! I edit in Vegas on a PC, do your LUTs work in that program? Also, I'm curious if you've used the Pocket 3 for sit-down video capture, like when you sit at your desk. I tried it and it looked like it distorted my face -- too large nose, etc -- like a very wide angle lens will. Perhaps you have some ideas how to use it that way, for when I'm not in a studio but I'm doing a studio-like recording. And thanks for the reminder that the mic can record on its own. A handy feature!
Thanks! I am not super familiar with Vegas but the LUT comes in a .cube file which I believe Vegas does work with
Thanks@@JakeSloan , I'm wondering how you deal with the wide-angle distortion caused by the lens. I'd like to use this camera for sit down interviews, but it just doesn't look very good that way.
Im looking for something to use for vlogging while hiking.
Im leaning towards the Pocket 3. I had a GoPro and didn't like it.
A few things I'm iffy with...
- What if its raining, a light shower, or snowing? I cant use the Pocket 3?
- How long do the batteries last? Id like to use it in below freezing weather (-10, -20, -30C)
- Lav mic. I don't want to be using that all the time, would rather use built in mic. Can I add a wind muff to it, to make it sound better?
I’ve tested the batteries at -20c and they lasted several hours (camera and battery handle together) get a USBc lav mic and you can plug directly into the unit. There are no wind protection accessories as of now for the built in pocket 3 mics.
Hello Jake and thank you for this amazing video. I have a question about color grading. Would it be enough to apply simply rec 709 on D-Log M without any other adjustments? I'm a beginner in color grading and I don't want to struggle on pro adjustments. But still want to record on D-Log M. What would you advise to handle color work easily? Thxxx!
It is but honestly I would just shoot in normal color profile. Its does a great job and is still 10bit now with a recent update
Thanks for sharing your experience and opinions, but I wish you mentioned something about the screen, which is told to have durability/stability issues. I have seen many people sharing videos and making comments on such negative experiences. Many of them think the hardshell case can be the reason of the issue with the screen. Just FYI.
I haven't had those issues so I didn't mention it. I see others complaining about it but since I have no idea how careful or not careful they are I don't know if it's DJI's issue or just people treating their equipment poorly
The low mega pixel count isn’t a negative
I had the pocket 2 since launch and only took a few panos and wasn’t happy with any of them. I did like the hlg footage
agreed
Great job, I’m loving mine , best thing I like is how much more footage I can get now I’m so unobtrusive. Thank you..
exactly! It's such a great little camera to grab shots without being "noticed"
Nice video. The pocket 3 is great but my only concern so far has been the audio. Audio seems really quiet, can barely hear when I play it on the computer. When using the DJI Mic2 it is even quieter but at least there you can adjust the gain. If I adjust the gain way up it sounds OK but the screen shows it is clipping. A search of the DJI forum shows a number of others having the same issue but I haven't seen any resolution to this point? I may be doing something wrong and I'm still testing various scenarios but just leaving audio at regular settings I'm not getting the same results as shown on many videos.
that is so strange I have not had any issues like that. My audio is pretty much where I would set it for post processing
What is the wireless max distance for start/stop recording? Great review. Still got the Pocket1.
I have tested it at 200 ft away and it works, but distance will vary based on obstructions or interference
Worth it? It's all about your needs, and this fits in with mine, I just had the crator combo delivered yesterday so still learning, I need something I can slot neatly in a shirt pocket so I can film without holding a camera or a phone out in front of, making it obvious I'm filming, that way I would think that recations from people will be more natural, plus I needed something easy to handle, with a great stabliser thats better than i iphone.
Sounds like this might be good for you then
Thanks Jake :) Does the active tracking work in vertical mode please? Cheers!
it does
Hi Jake, thank you for this video! I just have one question: In several scenes I saw the Pocket 3 sitting on a selfie stiick tripod. Which one do you use / recommend? (It has to be sturdy...) Thx and have a merry Xmas! Carsten from Germany
Thanks! the selfie stick I use the Insta360 Selfie stick and a small tripod from Zhiyun gimbal
A 50 or 70mm magnetic adapter would be great. Especially if you can combine it with the mist filter.
that would be amazing!
One day I'll get it... Looks really cool :D
nice
Thank you
You're welcome
Excellent... Thank you
you're welcome
I agree, I love mine.
awesome
Is their a vintage film filter on combo? Is this support the 4:3 open-gate full sensor footage in horizontal?
No to both
Great video - thank you. Two quick questions: 1) what tripod or monopod are you using at around 15:45 in the video? I am looking for a lightweight, compact one to use with the Pocket 3; and 2) I am a photographer but total noob when it comes to video editing - is there a software and course that you recommend for beginners to make basic edits (I'd like to make videos that intersperse video of the location and the photos I take there, with a music background). Thanks!
I use this one here: geni.us/6CLY, I'd recommend checking out this playlist for some starter tips on filming and editing video: czcams.com/video/R5JhV39GSec/video.html
Thank you! @@JakeSloan
Great video and feedback! Would there be a way to use active track on a vehicle? For example I make videos of my 4x4 outings and some travel car videos. So if I can place the camera higher it will be great if it can track the vehicle, so I will have more movement in the shot instead of a stationary Gopro for example.
I haven't tested vehicle tracking! I will try to and see
@@JakeSloanThank you. Will be great if it can.
Thanks for the review, but I was hoping to hear some info on weather resistance.
I have used it in light rain and light snow but beyond that this camera is technically not weather resistant
Howd you get that beautiful pov shot of the osmo pocket 3 in the brginning of the video?? Super creative!
I attached my camera to a magic arm and attached it to the pocket 3. Thanks!
Great video thanks. I have been resisting purchasing this for quite a while but the reviews and your video convinced me to pull the trigger. Should arrive in about 3 days. I see that you can shoot in d-log but there does not appear to be a way to put a lut or a preview so that you can shoot in D-Log but yet still see on the screen the colors for viewing purposes only. What I am trying to say is that some cameras will allow you to shoot in a flat log profile and the captured video is in log but what appears on your screen looks proper. Can you confirm that there is no such option currently on the pocket 3 and I wonder if that is something that DJI can add later in a firmware update. No one enjoys shooting in a flat log profile while they are actively filming since it looks strange. I have a Nikon z9 but it is very large and heavy the beauty of this appears to be for traveling to be able to throw it in your pocket and go. Okay granted it's not going to perform and give output like the z9 but the portability and the fact that it is so small makes it a winner. Thanks for your great videos very helpful and helped me to Make the decision to purchase one.
Thanks! and I do wish they would add that functionality as well (display assist)
Thanks Jake. It'd be great if you reviewed the Insta360 Ace Pro (and compare).
thanks I will see about getting one
Very interesting video, thanks. Some points of detail -
The digital zoom on the Pocket 3 is for emergency use only. Unlike the Pocket 2, which had spare pixels on its quad Beyer sensor, the Pocket 3 can only zoom by cropping in, same as if you cropped in editing. And when editing you can change your mind if it doesn't look good.
The Mic 2 can also be used with Android phones with an app that lets you select the BT mic as the source, not just iPhones.
For wireless mic narration with stereo ambient sound using the new audio backup feature, actually you need to use any USB-C wireless mic, not the Mic 2, which collapses the internal mics to mono. Must be a bug!
interesting on the usb-c audio now...
Is there a tripod/selfie stick you recommend to use with this? What was the one you used with some of your shots?
I use this one: geni.us/6CLY
my only worry is that it seems fragile. Thank you Jake for giving us your impression
it definitely will not take the place of an action camera
does the osmo pocket 3 require wifi connection to download video and / or connect to the external mic? I want to use this while offgrid. Thanks!
no it does not, you will need to connect initially to activate and register the unit but after that no connection is required
Low light - that is why I got it after watching your vids. And given that it is Winter, how many hours a day are in 'low light' now? Plus it is fun to shoot with and it's 'gimbalized' which I know is not a word but I just made it up... And I wish it was a bigger 'stills' camera.
agreed!
Does the horizon shift in the helicopter/car still happen with the three different gimbal modes, of Follow, Tilt Lock and FPV?
it does happen in all modes but it's most noticeable in tilt lock mode and follow mode
@@JakeSloan Thanks Jake. Will be a while till I can test it in a helicopter. Best Dave
is the focus hunting/pulsing at 1:08 and 17:37 always there when doing backlit motion? is there a usable manual mode to solve this?
not always and you can set it to focus single shot where it locks focus as soon as you start recording
Hey Jake, I have a question I had forgot to ask during last Livestream. My sister has the Sony A1 III. She is more into vlogging and video, not so much photography yet.
Do you think selling the Sony A1iii and getting a pocket 3 instead then put the rest $ in the bank would work out better for her?
Thank you Jake. We both voted for you on CZcams VS, I really hope you win really feel you will because you deserve it man.
Thanks Michael, It would work great for video only and for simple stuff, I would still be tempted to keep the A7III though, it's great camera for video and photo
What is the tripod you were using in this video with the Pocket 3?
linked in the description
I came here wanting to know about the OSMO3 and wasn't disappointed. I came away however caring less about the £700 camera I just bought and more interested in Alaska. Where are you and where are these places?
lol this is in a few different places in Alaska but mostly in the knik glacier area
I was so worried about how it would look when I got in my helicopter. Thanks for clarifying 😅
Rofl
Awesome video, 2 months later. 🎉
Thanks Eddie
Does recording in 4k and downscaling to 1080p give better video than directly recording in 1080p?
yes it looks better and more detailed
Great review, thanks for that! As an aurora chaser (when it is possible) I was wondering how good is it to shoot the aurora with tit? Did you test for it? Would be a good option for motion timelapse?
Thanks in advance.
I show an Aurora Timelapse in the video. It does ok but only in Timelapse mode.
@@JakeSloan It was too fast. :) So, a motion timelapse would do it ok, nothing like the a proper camera and a pan slider. TKS!
Hi Jake, thank you for the useful video and the others in the series, please can I ask if it's possible to have a lavalier and the Mic 2 plugged in at the same time, so the wife can have the Mic2 and I use a lavalier both recording on the Pocket 3? Just until I save up for an additional DJI mic...Thank you John.
Hey John, I don't believe it is possible at the moment
Thank you Jake, will keep saving
Quick question can an ND and Mist filter be attached to the Pocket 3 at the same time?
the freewell ones can be stacked. I wouldn't recommend more than 2 at a time but yes they can be
So you typically dont override the settings for night or low light settings?
not typically but if I want a shot to look a certain way I will set all the settings manually
Would you use this for filiming footage in Sand Cars in the dunes?
You could but I’d get the action 4 or GoPro 12 for that
What stand did you have in the snow with the pocket 3 mounted on top ?
It's the Insta360 Selfie stick with a small tripod from a gimbal I used to have
Is it true that the low light mode is only available for landscape (not portrait)?
Oh you know I hadn't thought to test that!
Any news on when they’re selling the dji mic 2 seperately?
nothing yet
I had to return it because of the photos. I was looking for a phone replacement, and the Pocket 3 really falls short in the photo department. I hadn't learned about the measly 9 MP camera until after zooming into my landscape shots. I thought I had done something wrong or my settings were off. I was shocked to see that it only had a 9mp camera. I understand it allows for better low light performance, but 9mp in 2023 is a no no.
yeah the photos are the biggest disappointment of the pocket 3
Where is the location of that river/stream in snow with a bridge on it. It's just so serene that i kept watching it. It felt like a paused moment in this life.
That is Eklutna Trail Race here in Alaska
