- WB and Max, formerly HBO Max, have confirmed a Harry Potter reboot series is happening. Here are 20 details we know so far that will get you caught up on everything you need to know.
It all starts with Max, formerly HBO Max, which will be the home for a new television series - a retelling of the original 7 Harry Potter books.
Early rumors said one book per season, but now we know that won’t be the case. Max announced their plans for this to be a decade long series.
My guess would be the first few books will match the 1 book per 1 season rate. But once we hit Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix, I would expect things to stretch out a bit more.
All of this will ultimately be decided by the writers and showrunners once they’re in place.

A new scripted Harry Potter television series is coming! The series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s original Harry Potter books, marking a momentous new chapter for the Wizarding World. Here’s everything we know so far.
In April 2023, it was revealed at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max Streaming Press Event that the Harry Potter books are to be adapted into a new TV series.
The news comes in tandem with the announcement that US streaming giant HBO Max will soon become Max - and the new Harry Potter television series will be a Max Original when it launches in the US. .
The new adaptation will introduce you to a new cast for a new generation of fandom, and will be full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations we have loved for over 25 years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to new audiences around the world.
The Harry Potter books were first adapted for the screen back in 2001, paving the path for what would become a beloved 8-film series that we still celebrate today. They will always be at the heart of the magic, but we are excited to hear we will have the opportunity to relive these stories in exciting new ways.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content described Harry Potter as a ‘cultural phenomenon’.
“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” he said. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”
J. K. Rowling, who will serve as an Executive Producer said of the news: “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”

If they stick to "faithful" adaptation and not go the route of "reimagined for a modern audience", it should be great. I read the books as a teen, and while I enjoyed the movies, I'd love to see more depth from the books. Take the time necessary to build the story.
In theory I like the idea: fleshing things out with a longer adaptation, hours per novel, you can really go in-depth and keep it serious and grounded. But in practice I wonder if it will deliver. You've already got hugely successful movies that everyone is bound to compare it to, if you hire kids will you keep them on for every passing season, etc.
Totally agree. They definitely have an uphill battle.
@@RetroRaconteurthe difference between fantastic beasts and this is that jk won't be writing it so it has a chance to be successful
@@MyBitch925 Why? They will still complain money goes to her like Hogwarts Legacy.
@@MyBitch925you realize that JK created the entire Harry Potter world right?
We get it you hate her because you’re a liberal and think she’s Satan.
But she’s an excellent writer
I’m watching every episode, regardless.
Harry Potter movies were my childhood growing up, later in life I read the books and found out that there's a lot more to the story that wasn't in the movies. And I'm hoping that with this show a whole new generation will get to experience the magic of the wizarding world!
Agreed!
I’m really happy that the later longer Harry Potter books are taking more then 1 season because I fell like a lot of thing were left out in the movie
I dislike more than 1 season per book
I hope they’re just 1 season each with more episodes per season
@@dylanbruhhh4208 More episodes would definitely work for bigger books, that's a great idea.
I love that you used the Jeremy Soule music at the beginning, one of my favorite OSTs
Yes! It's a classic 😄
“Faithful adaptation” that’s all i want :)
Wait until they throw some bs in there to pander to wokeness....we will see how faithful this will be.
You can d a lot with the series! I mean, imagine not just hearing about what James did at school, but actually having episodes dedicated to showing it. Learning more about James, Sirius, Lupid, Peter, Lilly and Snape and more as they show it in between episodes. Maybe switch from their time to Harry's time. We can see how the Marauders are fighting in the war, we can see the stuff about the secret keeper, Peter getting blown up and the betrayal during season 3 as Harry learns about it. You can do a whole lot with it all to show new stuff to keep this from just being a reboot, but to make something new out of it. That and the tonloads of details they couldn't fit in the movies. You can have 12 to 20 episodes a season that way easily without it getting boring and getting filler episoders like so many shows do nowadays.
Heck, you could even show more of Voldemorts time at Hogwarts, watch him grow from that creep little boy into the creepy wizard, get some backstory in there before season 6 where Harry and Dumbledore travel through Voldemort's past.
I just hope they take their time to write the story out good so it all flows together. This could potentially be a series that will be remembered for a long time with fondness. They just need to stick to the lore and keep politics out of there to push their agenda. Keep it faithfull to the books as it was written back then, and not the revisions J.K Rowling loves to make... THAT is my only concern.
I think, unfortunately, that, like mostly everything made nowadays, it will be filled with annoying politics and changes to appeal to "modern audiences." Even Rowlin herself has shown us plenty of times how she likes to play those games. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm very leery of this series being made during these times. I'm not looking forward to black Hermione, or a made-up episode about Dumbledore's romance with Grindewald like they did with the third episode of The Last of Us show.
I'm guessing they are going to stick to the books and limit backstories to what is written in the books. There is more than enough content there without the need for extra backstory. The first two books are shorter, so they might add some extra stuff in the first two seasons that aren't in the books.
Yeah let's not get carried away with all that 'expanding'
thats not a remake, that would be a seperate series exploring the universe and characters people love
not what they are doing, they are just churning out another shitty woke reskin for the tik tok generation that will butcher everything good about the originals
Then why not just make a movie about the past? it would make more sense
I can’t wait for season four to have a season. Long beast story of SPEW. I just re-watched goblet of fire and realized that all of Hermione’s characterizations were sort of more or less correct with the novels, but they never really gave a reason for it except for she’s upset with Ron which wasn’t it and she was upset with Ron because he fought her on the SPEW and it accidentally made them look more immature than they actually were in the source material in my opinion
I am so happy that Disney is not producing this
Also... Stehpen Fry for Hagrid!!!
He has the size and can do the accent perfectly! He would be perfect since he did the audiobooks
no, hes much more of a Dumbledore
Slughorn is his role
If Paul Wight (former wrestler The Big Show) would make a great Hagrid if he could pull off a British accent.
Well I'm glad that's happening. Gives us a chance to see some of the intricate stories and side plots from the books that didn't make it to the films.. And hey, even if it sucks, we will always have the original movies, which are awesome!
The reference to "a decade" doesn't necessarily mean that there will be more than one season per book. It more likely just means they won't be able to churn out a new season every year.
Good point.
My thought exactly! Wouldn’t make sense to add nonsense that isn’t there if they’re trying to be as accurate as possible.
What I see happening is Order of the Phoenix may be like 16 episodes while Prisoner of Azkaban may be 9. So one season may take longer to film and such.
Yeah, it wouldn't make sense to end a season halfway through a book since none of them have a mid-way climax. Also, each book has a very defined start and end, so they couldn't span a season across two books.
The only book I could see them possibly splitting is Deathly Hallows due to it having a very linier story and unlike the other books, which mainly take place at Hogwarts, Deathly Hallows spends most of its time in other locations with each having a pretty distinct story.
But I'm sure it will just be 7 seasons.
I, too, have been a fan since prior to the movies and to be perfectly honest, I ALWAYS thought Harry Potter should've been a series on a premium cable network like HBO because their pockets are deep enough. You'd also be afforded the time to tell the stories more fully, covering side plots that, while not integral to the main plot (ex. S.P.E.W., time spent at Grimauld Place, The Marauders, etc.), they still have importance, show character development, or just help to make other things make more sense.
So I'm actually really excited about it as this seems like exactly what they're promising to do. 🤞🏾💜
Yes! Fingers crossed they do it justice! And hopefully we'll get some new info soon.
I've been saying this for almost ten years...that it was high time for a good TV series with high quality production values (Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, etc.), devoting a season per book. The promise of TEN seasons is even better, providing more attention to the many details contained in the books. I enjoyed the movies, but there can be no question that the books are much more rewarding.
I feel excited now. Thank you!
No problem! Hopefully we'll learn more soon.
We do need a reboot. It's been 25 years since the first book was published and we didn't get a faitful adaptation yet. Harry Potter movies are not even close in faithfulness to Lord of the Rings so while being quite successful and iconic, a reboot is still very much neeeded. Also, I think it is important to expand the wizarding world but to do so the main saga characters and the lore must be well-known to the general public to make spin-off stories successful and I mean more than 10 main characters or something.
I will keep my expectations in check, but I like the idea of a longer series adaptation of the books. I got into the series through the movies, and am now reading through the books for the first time and I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience. I’m excited to see a new adaptation to the books completely separated from the movie interpretations!
I can only hope no black hermonie. She is literally white in the books.
Yeah, no race swap for anything I'm sick of that lol keep it true ppl probably won't watch 🤷🏻♀️.
BUT BUT EQUALITYY
It’s worse, they are gonna be trans
i would hate it with passion.. and I am black btw
They obviously will race swap someone, which is annoying because there’s already loads of other characters they could focus on
What I'm most interested in seeing is what they might keep from the film adaptation. Of anything they could borrow from the films, the look of the castle could be pretty devisive. People could say that keeping it the same would make it too similar, but at the same time the look and layout has become almost synonymous with the books.
It it were up to me, I'd keep a similar exterior, but the interior they can change up to fit the books. I feel like of all locations, Hogwarts castle is the one they did the most justice.
All I hope for is that they dive deep into Tom Riddle/Voldemort story and we see everything that happens.
I hope and pray for this
For sure! Definitely something the movies didn’t go as deep on as they should have.
Thanks for the vid!
Np problem. Glad you enjoyed it!
“Oh, and that Newt guy” 😂
😆😆😆
Got to say, I would love a spin off movie / series where you follow an unspeakable. I think it would be really interesting to see what they do in that specific job.
I'd also love to see a series following the Marauders, and something following a Auror.
These 3 would be really cool to see.
But I am happy about more content, even if it is a reboot.
Agreed! So many fun and original stories they could tell.
The auror story could be following post-books Harry.
In a way, where the franchise is currently reminds me of the Star Wars sequels. They finally stopped following the Skywalker Saga and you started getting other stories. Although, they still are sticking too close to the Skywalker era itself. I'd love to see spin-offs of the kind you speak of: unspeakables, aurors, etc. I know people want a Marauders spin-off, but I confess that really dislike James, young Sirius, young Remus (somewhat), and Pettigrew, so I'm not rooting for that one.
@@matthewpatrick7263 As long as it's not the Harry we get from the Cursed Child (the play that shall not be named), and as long as we don't get queerbaiting with Albus and Scorpius.
@@Theo-oh3jk The cursed fanfic has nothing to do with my idea. It's incompatible with canon. I was thinking of Harry just starting out as an auror. His kids are probably not even born yet.
1:25 THE SUBTLE SHADE 😂
Great video, thank you! Do you have a link for the footage near the 20 second mark?
Glad you enjoyed it! The footage is from the Max announcement event. Currently, the full event is still available at the link here: live.wbd.com/ The Potter and Game of Thrones info comes near the very end.
@@RetroRaconteur them you!
The thing I love the most about HP is the magic and happiness surrounding it. With the films, each one grows darker and darker and does not have as much time to show the happier side of things. I think with a series we'll be able to dive deeper into the magical world we all know and love, while still following the correct story line.
Daniel Radcliffe as James Potter.
JK Rowling will never bring back the actors that stabbed her in the back on the "transphobia" issue - Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, Evanna Lynch, Chris Rankin, and Katie Leung are all out.
Man I love Evanna Lynch so much 😭@@wanderlost7707
@@wanderlost7707 trueee
I liked the movies but loved the books. If I hadn't read the books, I probably would have loved the movies more. I'm really looking forward to this series. They can cover all the things that couldn't be covered in the movies. MAX can put forth a budget and time to make a quality product to look forward to.
I really hope they don't give up after a couple years if it doesn't hit the numbers match what they wanted. Studios seem to drop projects when it isn't overly profitable. They really need to follow through completely. And they NEED to make sure to not lose and have to recast actors.
I was personally hoping for an animated series, but I'm hopeful that this will be good.
So excited!!!!! The movies were lacking details from the books. And now this! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I've grown up with harry potter, reliving that joy and magic will be incredible ( not that ive lost that at all lol) /*
Yep, I’m cautiously optimistic!
This is gonna be soo good. I hope the characters hit good and not a flat version of them
The HP video game music at the beginning 👌👌👌
I’m looking forward to this series a lot. The movies were iconic and I still love them, don’t get me wrong, but as I get older, and having read some of the books, I feel like the pacing of the films just don’t do justice to the depth of the world and a longform medium will allow us to be even more immersed in it.
How cool! Hope they produce in the UK
i personally think we do need a reboot or at least a version that does cover the book faithfully, - i personally think a really solid animated show may have been a slightly better choice but im down for any harry potter content really
I get what they’re doing this story to me makes more sense to be a series based type show over movies. These stories have a lot of detail an the perfect type of imagery when you can stretch the stories out an it still remain interesting.
I think this series could benefit from the years of perspective. The movies were a thematic mess because the screenwriters had no idea which plot lines/characters would be most important in the endgame. So I wish them luck!!
This has a lot of potential.
Agreed. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
If it's a Decade long series then I don't think they're going to rush things too much which is what my main concern was especially after watching the first three episodes of Percy Jackson. I'm curious how many episodes we get a season. Also I forgot that Charlie didn't show up at all in the series.
I'm pretty sure it would be at least 10 episodes per season, similar to the first six seasons of GOT.
But it might extend to 12-13 episodes in case of the fourth and fifth season, since the original books are quite thick and lot of things happen.
@@94mp99 I hope so. That would be great
I cannot wait ❤
I would like to see the new series be an animated one.
Given that one of the major complaints about the movies were that Harry's eyes weren't green.
Having the series be animated would mean you can guarantee the characters to be accurate to the books and pay homage to the original cast; especially those who have passed away.
This is 2024 All they will have to do is CGI green eyes harry Potter will be African American with green eyes and if you don't like it well then you just racist lololololololo sorry I had to
I can't wait... i hope the cast is great.. its going to be hard to pull off.. i really hope its going to be diffrent. darker. detailed, and the best story ever told. because that is what the books is to me and so many fans! i just can't wait, it will be awsome
At first I was against it, but I’m doing my annual readathon of the books right now and it infuriates me that so many cool scenes were cut from the movies. My hope is that the tv series fills in these gaps and go heavily into the lore. Such as the below and many many more to count. You will see that clearly I love the elves:
- Peeves
- the Dursleys abusing Harry, Petunia screaming when she found baby Harry on the doorstep, the Dursleys going into hiding in the end and Harry’s goodbye with Dudley and Petunia. Petunia receiving a Howler from Dumbledore in Order of the Phoenix
- Dobby helping Harry with the gillyweed (not Neville ffs!!)
- Wendy
- Barty Crouch Jr, how he escaped Azkaban and swapped places with his dying mother, him being under house arrest by his father, Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew freeing him, Voldemort controlling his father, his father arriving at Hogwarts and how “Mad Eye Moody” killed him and transfigured him into a bone, etc.
- more on their education at Hogwarts and all their classes. Like Charms, Potions, Transfiguration etc and all the cool stuff they were learning (and Hermione being hit by a jinx that gave her huge teeth)
- Wendy and Barty Crouch Jr under the invisibility cloak at the Quidditch cup
- elves in the Hogwarts kitchen, behind the picture frame of a bowl of fruit that needs to be trickled to find the entrance
- elves bending over backwards to help Ron and the Weasley twins with food
- elves bursting out of the castle with knives and sauce pans in Deathly Hallows
- Hermione and SPEW, knitting cloths and leaving them in the common room to liberate the elves lol
- Kreacher betraying Harry in the OOTP
- Kreacher and Harry accepting each other in Deathly Hallows and enthusiastically serving Harry food and considering him his Master
- Kreacher and Regulas Black and their whole storyline with the locket, drinking poison in the cave, etc
- Dumbledore’s Army and meeting alerts through the coin system
- St. Mungos inc. the hospital facade, Mr. Weasley, Lockhart, Neville and his parents and grandma (in her classic outfit) in the hospital
- Neville’s parents being tortured to madness by Bellatrix. Neville’s backstory really and why he was so important in the prophecy and how Harry became The Boy Who Lived instead
- More scenes of Mrs. Weasley tending to Harry like a mother
- more chemistry between Harry and Ginny
- Ginny being in love with Harry since she was young and Harry never seeing her like that. Her being jealous and eventually being the hot chick attracting the guys. How Harry grows jealous of the guys and long for her but have conflicting thoughts of her being Ron’s sister. Eventually kissing her in the common room after the Quidditch celebration
- for the love of God, please give the Patil twins some beautifully embroidered Indian sarees instead of those cheap flea market outfits they wore to the Yule ball
- Sirius giving Harry the mirror. Harry looking for Sirius’ ghost in the castle and then talking to Nearly Headless Nick
- Harry’s sassiness with Snape
- The Headless Hunt
- The Marauders
- Dumbledore CALMLY asking Harry if he put his name in the goblet of fire😅
- Firenze and being a teacher in the classroom he converted to looking like a forest
- Dumbledore explaining the prophecy to Harry, the huge part of Trelawney, Snape, Neville, etc
- more explanation of Horcruxes to the audience who haven’t read the books, what’s already been destroyed, how many to go, the Gaunt family and the ring, Tom Riddle’s mother and her love potion for Tom’s father, and how Dumbledore eventually got cursed to death by the ring. Harry looking for the diadem in the Ravenclaw common room, Ron trying to speak Parseltongue to open the Chamber of Secrets, Snape’s Patronus doe and Gryffindor’s sword sequence in the forest and Snape talking to Dumbledore’s portrait
- Dumbledore’s family backstory with Aberforth, their sister and Grindelwald. Dumbledore neglecting his family on his path to being a great wizard
- In the Goblet of Fire, the trio meeting Sirius in the cave, Fudge not accepting that Voldemort is back, how that event distanced the Ministry of Magic from the truth, Sirius Black in the hospital wing being introduced as innocent to Molly Weasley and shaking hands with Snape, Dumbledore giving orders for next steps like Hagrid and Olympea to meet the giants, etc.
- more time of Harry with Sirius at Grimauld Place and exploring their relationship, to make his death all the more heart breaking
- Hagrid & Olympea to meet the giants, the giant fights that break out, the Death Eaters and them offering cool gifts to the giants, etc.
- Dumbledore’s army using the spells they learned from Harry during the War at Hogwarts, including conjuring Patronuses for the Dementors. Giants, dementors, spiders and other dark creatures in the war
- Remus and Tonka dying and how their orphaned son mirrored Harry’s story. Harry taking care of their son like his own family
Seriously, I could go on and on….
I think they are emphasizing 'decade' because I doubt that you'll get a whole new season of the show on a precise yearly rate.
The magic needs to be as colourful as it was in the book and stay consistent-I hated in the movies the spells would change every time or all be blue or something like that
if its good im fully supporting this. im buying all the blu rays if they become available.
A Decade seems a bit of a stretch, with lots of superfluous details that can/will be added that doesn't really add much to the plot, especially when the books can be finished even via audiobooks pretty fast even just listening and reading for 30 mins a day
There’s so many’s moments that I want to see on the big screen like them, sneaking away Hagrid’s dragon in the first book
Yep, that’s a good one that will hopefully make it in.
I can’t wait let’s go bring it on ❤😂🎉😢😮😅
How many videos are you going to make that are very similar to each other ?
As long as they stick to the books and not just a copycat reboot of Harry Potter I'm good with it. They always change something from the book. And when you see it in a movie somethings are like what the hell? So many things taken out. I get it. Movie. But look what Steven King's The stand. Like deathly hollows as well. Depending on where in each book you end l for next one to start. Make 2 part or even 3 .
I’m excited to see a more fleshed out version that’s closer to the books, but I honestly would have rather had a series based on a different era. I would love a Founder’s series or something based on the Marauders
I don't think such series could be successful but they could make it into a game.
I'm okay with this reboot so long as it's actually able to deliver that close and in-depth adaptation. But I would love: 1) Aurors series 2) Unspeakables series (Wizarding x-files anyone?!), 3) Founders series 4) a dark wizard series (where it paints dark wizards with some sympathy and nuance, and they are able to get stuff over on the aurors)
I mean it's pretty obvious that that this would bring in more interest, and if it's a success they will inevitably make spinoffs. at least that's what I believe the plan to be. Sort of like how HBO are expanding the Game of Thrones universe as it's flagship series.
Will they stretch it out or will there be a year or two in the decade where we won't get a new season.
Looking at this from a different perspective, possibly, I think it is highly possible to have seen things, seeing who was involved (the levels at which are certainly involved in all that evil), and walking away from that because he, CT, was not about going down that path, sell his soul for higher fame.
Poll: Which would you rather have?
A: Harry Potter book-adapted series
B: Harry Potter book-adapted Hogwarts Legacy style game
For me personally, definitely B!
the fact that JKR will be directly involved, a studio like HBO is taking the sword instead of some other streaming service, and they plan to take 10 years minimum on it gives me hope and comfort. I mean 10 years gives a ton of wiggle room and time to really dive deep into the universe. Id also hope JK would be obliged to expand the universe just a little during the series. it would be cool get like little add ons to flesh out the story just a tad straight from JK. I mean so many things happen off the pages that a tv show could easily bring it all to light. Like seeing Voldemort coming back from a death eater's perspective or Voldemort himself. Possibilities are endless if they play it smart. The universe is so big and its a bummer at times that the main series is so focused on Harry, shine the light on some other aspects JK tried to do in the books. The Tv show will have that opportunity to do that now. I mean Harry is great protagonist and all. But what's a day with Arthur at the ministry or Voldemort creating his Horcruxes. I also think HP is one of those series that will make a super good tv show in my opinion. It gives me that Game of Thrones vibe with all the potential characters that can be followed things that are happening all at the same time behind the scenes.
The fanfiction community has fully explored the universe and help fix most of the plot holes
they sure make it that peeves is in the series
I've got mixed feelings about this. One the one side I am exited for more HP stuff. But I really hope they don't start milking the franchise to death by releasing mediocre movies and games just to earn money.
Please WB, Quality over quantity !!!!!
Could they not do a season a book, with an episode a chapter? Perhaps two seasons/two episodes for books/chapters that might need more?
I’m looking forward to the show! I can’t wait to see everything come to life ❤
Agreed! Will be interesting to see new take on the series.
I don't think i was ever this excited and glad for a tv show.
Good to hear some are looking forward to it. I feel like so much of the online reaction has been negative 😅
@@RetroRaconteur Trust me, all of that is about JK Rowling and her views. People don't like her so they try to ruin everything about her. I honestly don't care about that side of things and just want the show to be good.
I’m into it, but it’ll be strange (almost like betrayal?) 😂, since I grew up with the books as they came out & the movies are really nostalgic.
I think the most obvious example of characters who were changed in the movies would be Winky the house elf, personally.
anyway I'll probably be satisfied by anything as long as the Goblet of Fire is better, Winky actually exists, and Lupin's wolf form looks more like a normal wolf. I can understand why they changed the way it looks but it's annoying how much it differs from the book description of werewolves being almost exactly like regular wolves except for their shorter snouts, smaller, rounder pupils, and tufted tails.
Just give me a Lupin showing up at Grimmauld Place and getting told off by Harry in the Deathly Hallows and I'll be happy. I was furious that they cut the Tonks and Lupin story lines out of the movies
They'll fuck it up.
To be honest most of the student actors in the movies were terrible actors lol. Including Daniel. Emma was good though.
Hopefully it will be more accurate to the Books, the first two movies were pretty close but they changed too many things after that and then tried to fix it in the last two movies which in my opinion were pretty bad.
Given the state of reboots these days, I have zero hope for this being a faithful adaption of the books.
I actually wouldn't mind a show for Lily and James' years
Maybe after this show ends and make a prequel show and make it canon to the show.
I really wanted a Marauders Story.. That would have been awesome.
If they don't make quidditch world cup finals game episode I will loose all hope for humanity. I've been waiting 23 years for this.
I was 15 when I went to cinema to watch the movie, couldn't wait to see the match Ireland vs Bulgaria and after Fudge said "Let the match begin" my nice cozy childhood ended and I became a cynical dude.
Im just worried how they are gonna make it fast enough to age with some of the younger cast, and how they will age into the roles
I hope they dive into as well the story of regulus black
It may just be me but love to have series focus around the time of the four founders to learn more about them or even series on Merlin in Harry Potter world
That could be absolutely epic, for sure. For such important characters, I feel like we really don’t know that much about the founders.
@@RetroRaconteur riiiight and plus on side note can't just be creator of something and talk about Merlin and don't go into detail with him he is like one my favorite fictional character
I think all the old actors can play their parents or something like that :D I mean the parent role that would be a lot of money xd
I really love the idea of but I always wondered if they could a modern era harry potter with an absolutely new story but in the same world im todays day and age think that that would be a huge hit
It could still be one book per season over a decade, just each season wouldn’t come out perfectly a year later
True! I would hope they don’t skip any years but that’s definitely a possibility.
Nah
@@nevermindgaming6848 why not? The films did the same thing..
@@RetroRaconteur Yeah I hope so too, but it could be the case. Also it could just be that the seasons come out a year and a few months after each other, so that adds up to around 10 years over 7 seasons
Maybe the later seasons will be released in multiple chunks, rather than the entire season at once? Does HBO Max do that?
i am looking forward for goblet of fire and order of phoenix
Definitely!
Personally i hope they keep it to (at most) 8 seasons, the seasons need finales and im not sure we can get more decent finales than 8
I think we can all agree that Adam Driver needs to be cast as Snape.
Snape was the only character that made me get into the story. If they mess him up...I wont deal with this endless milking of HP
No Americans
I am kind of mad. Hogwarts Legacy was the best selling game of 2023 and not a single mention at the Game Award. What a shame.
A reboot/sequel/rewrite? it feels like that they are going to rewrite the whole thing to plug the plot holes and everything else that has been found. Not sure if she will use CZcams info as well as anything else, but there has been a lot of stuff coming out about the world and characters. We're going to see a hell of a lot more, and not just from the books either. if this is going to take 10 years to do, then it is going to be bogged down with info dumping, plot filler, side stories and other things that has been happening all the time. If that is the case, it wouldn't be from Harry's prospective this time. The whole thing is just something, and since this is an iconic legend that got people reading, a huge phenomenon and a huge legacy, whoever is going to take this on, has huge boots from the word go.
A lot of pressure here. I know there has been some issues lately, concerning the franchise rights, ownership and streaming rights, as loads of major companies are fighting for it, despite Max picking it up.
Anyway. I am so looking forward to seeing Peeves this time around, I just hope they make him true to his character, as he is funny as hell in the books. However.. if they not following the bookline, I wonder which direction they are going with here. Yeah, Rowling said she had lots of regrets with the series when it was done and this could be her chance to start over.....I guess. So no more 80s or 90s version timeline, it be in modern times somehow.
Hmm.
I know a lot of stuff was missed out, but doing TV adaptions are one hell of a risk to pull and not easy to do it.
Would love a series about the first war
If I had to choose a format for the series, I would choose 4 episodes per season. 1 episode each for fall, winter, spring, summer. But I'm skeptical, it will be really boring if they choose many episode format. They could lean on the mystery format that the books definitely have, but it would lose some of the soul that a visual narrative can have. What I love about the movies is that they each have their own personal story and themes that the writers have worked to make fit with the narrative, at least for the first four movies. I have a feeling that a TV series will be all narrative and no story. Like I don't want to see the trio wondering if Snape is after the Philosopher's Stone and then cut to the next Episode
How it is supposed to be a faithful adaptation to the books with only 4 episodes per book? From 20-30 hours to 4?
I think the role model for fantasy adaptation is Game of Thrones and 10 episodes per season (book). There is something magical in anticipating the next episode and the season overall. It's important to have it. A faithful book adaptation cannot be as fast-paced as the movies but it's ok if they stick to the story, show the castle more and some new perspective.
@@piotrnowak8725 But the Series is not writting as a character study,
@@sinnattugaqIt can, like the entire of the first season of House of the Dragon is studying the five main characters,
Viserys, Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon, and Otto, and what is their motivation to do things that lead to the Dance of the Dragons.
@@sinnattugaq The books neither and yet there is much more focus on the characters and the wizarding world than in the movie. It creates the atmosphere of magic and has some kind of specific style that can be later applied to new stories from the wizarding world. Another thing is that books are not so descriptive if they don't to put emphasis on something, while movie or TV series is audiovisual and it must show more of the Hogwarts for example even it is just a background. Everything happens in a certain place and TV series has no choice but to show and first choose the place if it's not well-described. It is an opportunity to show already in the first season the areas of Hogwarts that were not mentioned or introduced in the first book.
It will never be as iconic as the originals
I have a storng attachment to the current charecters, itd be difficult to see a transition. Theyd have to do a REALLY good job. But thankfully JKR and the old producer will be around. Thats very promising. 👌
Not difficult at all, Daniel, Emma and Rupert weren't even that good of The Golden trio
I think they'd have been better off starting this much further back in the timeline and telling the story of the whole timeline. From young Dumbledore, to young Voldemort, to the Marauders, to Voldemort's rise and the war with The Order, to finally the Harry Potter era.
The movies were good, but they missed so much, from the books that were important! I am also hoping that they bring Peeve from the books on the show!
I do think they can manage the Goblet of Fire, the Order of the Phoenix, and the Deathly Hallows into one singular season,
by make each episode longer than 1 hour, maximum at 1.45 hours, like Game of Thrones final season or the majority of House of the Dragon season 1.
Yeah I guess they could do 10 years, but just not release new seasons every year.
@@RetroRaconteur Definitely.
Also, I personally guess that they might take a gap between three seasons to fit 10 years production period.
Like, by releasing the first three seasons in a row, assume it to be 2025-2027, then take a break in 2028,
and release the fourth season in 2029. This could make the production team be able to take their time in developing
the much bigger scale story that begin with The Goblet of Fire, which has bigger production, more new characters to introduce, etc.
Movies are never better than the books, this would be nice to be able to expand
Whoooa no David Yates?! No offense, but I find that very exciting!
when is it out?
Only in 2027 (best case scenario late 26)
the important is that they won't do any monstruosities like The Rings of Power
When I first heard about the new adaptation, I was pretty worried it would be garbage. Then, now that I know JKR is directly and hands-on involved, and David Heyman may be coming on-board, but that David Yates is out, it gives me more hope. Also, I think a long-form TV project is much more conducive to a close and in-depth adaptation, which is the only reason I'd watch something like this. While Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint are iconic to those roles, I don't want them back in any capacity. They've disrespected Rowling enough.
i want this series
As long as it has peeves, I’ll be happy. I love that poltergeist
Haha. Peeves is a MUST.
As we have learned from things like LOTR compared to RoP as long as the creators have a passion and respect for the books, things will be fine.
I'm not hyped until they are in the making or confirming anywhere that Book 5 for example gets WAY more screentime than Book 1. I really hope they don't think in 8 episodes per season each 1h long and each season reprises one book.
And I don't get why people really think actors like Toby Woolf or Bronte Carmichael are considered by the media as possible cast members for Harry and Hermione for example. Like they are currently 16/17 years old, when filming starts about 18+. You can't put an 18 yo in the role of an 11 yo. Actors for this series should grow with it like seen in the movies.
I hate that any new movies or tv shows are just reboots and continuations that just steal ideas from past classics. Harry potter doesn’t need a reboot. It’s a classic that has sooo much nostalgia.
I love the movies and the cast was full of stars that it would be to recast the roles but I do believe that the cast of the tv series should be entirely new.
Daniel should play Voldy. LMAO
