    Hot Wheels were meant to be superior on the tracks and to sport racing and fancy designs, while Matchbox was meant to be a better representation of real life cars.

      I agree. It's been years since I was a kid & I don't remember having a presence. But I saw some of both at my work and for the most part I thought how wheels look ridiculous & fake. Look like they were designed by a 5 yr old me.

    • @jameslenney
      @jameslenney Před 9 měsíci

      @@tatevancleve1802 I buy these for my son (I am also a former child) and it's super interesting how Hot Wheels and Matchbox are marketing themselves. The mainline basic ones are no contest - Matchbox has more detail, looks better, is more realistic with better colours and all-round quality, often with more heft.
      But the pricier models are different; matchbox has its 'intermediate' priced moving parts collections, which are higher quality again, and Hot Wheels are sort of similar.
      Then at the higher-end 10 bucks mark, there's the Hot Wheels Premium, which are all-metal bodies, better paint, colours, wheels etc. And Matchbox doesn't have anything in that price bracket that can compete (their 'collectors' ones are nice, but nowhere near the same quality for the same price).
      Mattel clearly wants them to be good at different things; Hot wheels cheap and mass-produced and the sort of 'gateway drug' for collectors in older age and with Matchbox acting as the opposite. It's probably a 40-year plan.

    This comparison was ridiculous and incredibly biased. Yes, I prefer Matchbox, but that plastic talk was crap. Both Matchbox and Hot wheels need either a plastic body and metal base or vise versa. Proportions? Matchbox will always win as Hot Wheels need to do well on the track. If you want track cars, buy Hot Wheels. Matchbox has so much more detail. Some Hot Wheels are great- but Matchbox will always destroy them when it comes to realism and detail. Don’t compare products that you are super biased about and waste 11 minutes of peoples day.

    I have a collection of toy cars like these and have a lot more of Hot Wheels than Matchbox, but what I have learned is that, Matchbox isn't about the super cool stuff. It's about making them realistic, like something you would put on a shelf in your room. Hot Wheels has creative things, it's not just about the detail and realisticness. They want to make cool things that little kids would play with, (but obviously that's not what I have them for) I even have separate storage units for these. I see them as different concepts, you can't just put reality with creative together. I personally think different brands are for different people. I'm a Hot Wheels guy but Matchbox is cool in it's own way.

    As far as the metal bottoms, it is rare to find a hot wheel that has one in years. The Shelby you chose may be recent but it is from the early 80s casting I believe hence the metal bottom. The argument about the weight of the Cobras was pretty irrelevant. Same with the Evora's rear window, both cars aren't based on the same version of the model, so their textures will be different too. I am a huge fan of both but to me, it generally appears that MB cars are more realistic and proportioned more accurately than the HW cars. I’ve been collecting since the 60’s; so as an old dude; I’m more concerned about looks than track speed (though I still have lots of original track that I set up every few years just to feel young again). For the same dollar or so, I think MB gives you a bit more car. That being said, I wish MB and HW would come out with a line of ultra realistic cars like Greenlight, MC, Johnny Lightning and others. I think there is room in the market for additional hyper-detailed and realistic castings.

  • @blueneckmedia4590
    @blueneckmedia4590 Před 6 lety +16

    For overall proportion and casting, MATCHBOX wins. HOTWHEELS casting and overall proportion sucks because of track and stunt functionality. This dude's banged on the head when he said the proportion of HW is much better. Holy shit, NOT!

    • @blueneckmedia4590
      @blueneckmedia4590 Před 6 lety

      Narrower or not, that doesn't really count and is not really the point. What counts as "proportion and casting" , which HOTWHEELS fails, is the thickness of their paint which hides the linings, angles and gaps of the casts, the mind blowing wide wheel arches which are completely unrealistic and the unreasonable cute and compact look which HW tries to do to make the car more cartoon-ish. These are the reasons why HOTWHEELS fails on "proportion and casting".
      So what's good about HOTWHEELS, apart from failing in proportionality?: Solid metal body and chassis, smooth wheel rotation, good quality paint. That's about it.
      MATCHBOX wins in proportionality and in casting, except, MATCHBOX fails on these: Thin, cheap-like paint, light metal body and chassis but MOST of the time the chassis are plastic and the horizontal wheel play.
      Proportionality: HW < MBX
      Realism: HW < MBX
      Durability: HW > MBX
      Quality: HW > MBX
      Now, based on being 1:64 scale, HW and MBX really fails on that. Wanna know what true 1:64 scales are? Look up 1980's Tomica and the 2015 on wards Tomica. Also, big rigs and buses don't mind those really. Even Tomica fails on that with one good reason, how are you gonna fit those in their standard boxes? Stick to cars if you're going to based on 1:64's in HW, MBX or even Tomica.
      If you're gonna base 1:64 on big rigs, buses, coaches and some other large vehicles, then look up toy brands that focuses on those vehicles like the Kentoys Wheelers and what not.

    Generally speaking I've found the multi packs from each company being of lesser quality than those found in single packs. I'd also like to know where you're finding current hot wheels with metal bases. At least here in the US 80% are plastic bases. If I were to pull random 5 cars out of my hot wheels collection, I'd doubt I'd consistently get 1 with a metal base. Now the opposite would be true with my matchbox collection. Most of the cars I seek out in matchbox have metal bases. Now this may be due to my buying habits... My matchbox seems to be more 60s and 70s muscle cars, most have opening features. And overall more detailed than the Hotwheels offerings. Better more realistic proportions. My Hotwheels tend to be more of the whimsical in nature, or non usdm vehicles.

    Matchbox used to be the very best quality and feel. I'm talking in the 70's! But now they're both owned by Mattel, who seem to focus the quality on the Hot Wheels brand, and use cheaper construction on the Matchbox. It's kind of gone opposite now, which I feel is a shame, but all about marketing.

    MBX has come a long way. Hot Wheels technically should win most heads up races. The wheels aren't cheap just more realistic. Seen some great custom Matchbox cars with FTE's blow doors off JL & HW. Castings are still quality and not all are 1:64. Some are stamped with the scale. Good video

    Mattel puts little ridges around the edge on Matchbox wheels, which means they are always slower than HW. Most of the MBX vehicles are just blobs of coloured plastic, you do get the odd good ones and when MBX is good they are usually really really good. MBX is like Mattel's adopted child, and HW is their own kid, so HW are always going to get the money spent on them and MBX is always going to be second fiddle, Mattel couldn't allow it to be any other way.

I'm cutting off of hotwheels forever only for real riders that don't have 2 different wheel sizes. Matchbox cars for life! Yeet!

    Your review is totally biased and unfair. Most Hot Wheels cars have a plastic chassis but you picked some of the very few with a metal one for your review making it look like that’s the norm when it’s actually the exception. Also when you were comparing the ones with the plastic chassis you didn’t even mention it. The thing about Matchbox having cheap loose wheels was ridiculous. Maybe there is one or two models like that but most are fine. When you were talking about the details you said the Hot Wheels car had more when everybody could see it was the opposite and the Matchbox car was the clear winner in that department. I like Hot Wheels cars too but putting down Matchbox was very low on your part. I have a few Matchbox cars and they are beautifully detailed and their police cars beat Hot Wheels any day of the week. Hot Wheels are made specifically to race on the tracks that’s why the put performance before detail while Matchbox does the opposite.

He was obviously partial to hot wheels calling matchbox's wheels jagged when in reality the matchbox has a detail on the edge of the tire to emulate tire tread (not mentioned) in my oppinion matchbox makes up for quality with added detail! Weeeellll, I'm not sure you are exactly what could be called an objective judge. Being 'Mr. Hot Wheels' you were destined to choose Hot Wheels. I will grant you that basic line Hot Wheels have better looks. They were all noticeably larger and more realistic with details like spoilers. (You kept talking about plastic bottoms, but every one of my Hot Wheels has a plastic bottom.) However, Matchbox has its own details that are not matched by Hot Wheels. Matchbox has details like lights and license plates. Their Super Fast series are awesome. I have a limited scope on what I collect, but I still feel like it's important to look at everything!
    Keep up the good work. 👍
