I've seen this. My 81 y.o. neighbor reunited with his son after about 5 years apart. He couldn't resist the opportunity to assert his dominance, but the son and wife, didn't accept it and immediately left, probably for life. He made a power play and lost.

He got worse with age, as he progressed up the career ladder he became so full of himself, he had to mix with people who were incredibly succesful and it grated on him, at work people thought he was amazing, truth was he was just an amazing brown nose, at home he was so so belittling

I called out my covert narcissist ex-wife. She progressed to malignant instantly. She's definitely going to be a cold blooded psychopath too.

I have noticed this change in my now 69 year old sister. She has gotten more and more bitter as people pay less and less attention to her. She complains about men who dont want her contacting them. She complains about people not posting her painted rocks to the facebook group when they find them. And it goes on and on. I went no contact with her in 2020 and so glad I did.

Life is a journey and each one of us have issues going on in our lives. We have the responsibility to better ourselves, and take responsibility for our own actions.
I chose to stay on my own after 5 years of counselling as I don't trust anymore, I still enjoy family lunches family for Christmas. When I lost both my legs, counselling helped me with not worrying what people think about me anymore.
With a narcissist they lack the 'taking responsibility for their own actions' and lack empathy. A narcissist will not go for recovery or healing to better themselves.
Have a lovely day Liz 💜

How can anyone expect only a child to fully understand why their own biological mother or their relative whom they liked a lot has all of a sudden started spending little time with them anymore? A child in that kind of situation while hearing a lot about why that is happening to them at the time then has to try and sort out for themselves what the truth is about all that. When growing up in a not much better off level of income home or wealthy home that may or may not become that problematic to them. When they become successful adults that may or may not become problematic to them as well if they do not let everyone around them define what their success is always supposed to look like within themselves instead.
